- Plein Air Painting in Oils at Praa Sands Cornwall in the wind, rain and sunshine - a typical Summer evening in Cornwall!
This painting began life en plein air on the beach and then the elements took over and forced me back into the studio to complete it. I don't mind too much though as this is how I like to work with a mixture of outdoor and indoor painting with oils.
Basil joined us for this adventure as he loves the beach. We were also joined by surfers, body boarders, dog walkers and fishermen so look out for them in the video.
Don't forget - my book 'Views from the studio window' is available through my website - andrewbarrowman.com/product-c...
Thanks for watching - all the best - Andrew

Sehr schöne Marine. Richtig fluffig, tolles Atmosphäre und super Format!!!. Grüße Douglas
Thank you so much Douglas. This was a difficult one
The far off figures leaning into the wind absolutely seal the deal of careless perfection.
Thank you very much 😃
Great vid for process! Beautiful piece!

PS - love that format: one of my favourites, I want to do more.......
It’s a great format for coastal work

Красота ❤❤❤❤
Thank you
Beautiful painting Andrew, Cornwall look's so nice 🎨👍
Thank you 🙏🏻 it’s beautiful here. I’m looking forward to the winter when it’s a bit quieter. How’s it going for you? You must be heading into Spring?
@@AndrewBarrowmanArt Yeah It looks too good with good pubs too i heard. Yeah spring is not far away, Looking forward to it. Our winters are not too cold only like down too 4° around my area on the Central Coast of NSW. Happy painting Mate 🎨👍
Good pubs with good beer!
Happy painting too Tez 👍🏻 🍺 🍻
That was so interesting to see how you developed the composition and resolved the bits that weren’t working so well. The figures are a touch of genius a bit like Turner’s red dot which then lead the eye on to the gap between the rocks. Really lovely picture once again. Thanks for sharing - I learned a lot.
Thank you Jennie - it was quite challenging outdoors with the extremely changeable weather. I enjoyed it though and was pleased with the finished painting especially the textures when viewed close up
Lovely painting...again. Regards, David.
Thank you very much David 😃👍🏻
Hi's artwork are very beautifull.
Congratulations!
Thank you very much
I’ve never tried a dark toned work area before and it looks cool. I’ll have to try it.
Definitely worth a try 👍🏻
Sir great admirer of your work
So nice of you. Thank you 😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you 😊
Very nice. Like the paint texture on that one. Had my box easel just over a month now, and loving it!. Never painted outdoors before. I can thoroughly recommend a simple modification. I screwed two hoops on the bottom and took a shoulder strap off an old tool bag. So now I can wear it like a rucksack with two straps. What a difference! Very comfy and both hands free. No crashing around through gates, styles, and tall undergrowth! Thanks for vids. Nice to seeing the dog having a good time too. All the best
Thank you Steven
I like the sound of that mod - it does swing around a bit with the shoulder strap! Must try adapting mine at some point.
Love taking the dog with me painting but I need someone to keep an eye on him so he doesn’t get into trouble.
All the best 👍🏻
Loved watching this and kudos to your videographer, loved the creative angles she used, also enjoyed watching the bird fly by and the surf coming in! You're lucky to have her! And great to see your process.
Thank you so much Janice. My daughter is very creative and I am lucky to have her helping me. She loves being outdoors and I'm hoping she will come out painting with me next Springtime. Best wishes - Andrew
Greetings from Fabulous Las Vegas! This painting is so beautiful and refreshing. One day I'd love to come to Cornwall and set up my easel and paint some plein air scenes with you and grab a pint. Cheers!
Greetings Monty
You’d be more than welcome to join me for a painting session in Cornwall. I would love to visit Las Vegas one day for something completely different 😃
Interesting brushstroke: you have an excellent eye for compositions and really handle warm and cool colors so well: THANK YOU for the effort of filming in such bad weather, and posting the video from start to end. I have not finished a plein air painting alla prima: always work a bit more in the studio after the main image is captured en plein air. Loli
Thank you very much. I rarely finish a painting in one outdoor session either. I can always see improvements that can be made with another session. I would rather have a finished painting that I’m happy with, than one that is weak because it wasn’t pushed further.
Loving it as always Andrew. After seeing Woodies masterpiece this morning I wonder what super hero you would be?
Thank you Robin
I’ve just seen Woodie’s epic adventure. I’m afraid I can’t match Superman
I seen it too, He is a character 😁🎨
@@PleinAirAdventureswithTezDower he certainly is!
@@AndrewBarrowmanArt 🎨👍
What do you prime your plywood with first before applying paint ? This is all a learning curve for me
Hi Denise
I make my own gesso but I also use acrylic primer gesso if I’m in a hurry
@@AndrewBarrowmanArt ahh Ok thank you I have bought sime Gesso ( hope its the right kind )
@@deniseshaw3871 I'm sure it will be fine Denise
When you were talking on your phone, the volume was great. When you photographer came back, and you began relying on the mic on the camera, you were "far away." My computer volume is up to max and you are still "far away."
Thank you for your comments William
It is something I am looking to resolve in future outdoor videos. I will mic up for any commentary 👍🏻
The changing light is the curse of plein aire painters: how dare it! That's one reason why I stay indoors, though to be honest I wouldn't if if could still transport my gear and myself to a convenient spot for painting: sadly = Oi be old... I heard your groan towards the end of the session: I'd have been groaning at the outset....... I hope you enjoy these transparent excuses....
I do enjoy these transparent excuses very much Robert 😃
