- Bruch Violin Concerto with Pablo Heras-Casado and Philharmonique de Radio France in December 2021.
The first time I played this piece, I was 12 years old. 6 years later, I made a recording with the Gewandhaus Orchestra with Maestro Kurt Masur conducting. At the age of 21, I decided I played this piece too much and left it for 24 years.
Now I'm very much in love with this piece again. I hope you will hear my love for the composer that wrote so marvellously for violin. One could call this concerto an ideal for the violin!

As someone who has been working on this piece for more than a year now, I have to say that this is the most imaginative, innovative and original version I’ve listened to yet. He brings such vigor and energy to the piece. Bravo, Maxim, and thank you for blessing us with such beautiful music!
If I were you I'd listen to Julia Fischers DECCA recording. It's night and day better in terms of tuning, tonalitity, timing and touch.

I am late to the party but still... Here is my little opinion, Janine Jansen hands down best interpretatio!
The first time I heard this concert I was around 15 years old, in the 60's. A Heifetz recording. I was very emotional and cried. Today I understand that this concerto is not just another concerto for violin and orchestra, but perhaps the most impressive concerto ever written for violin. Not only the lay public loves this concert but musicians and violinists too. There are many videos on youtube of this concert. Vengerov gives us a vigorous, manly interpretation without neglecting the sweetness of this concert. Magnificent!

I adore playing 3rd movement. it has everything you need in a violon piece: passion, tenderness,joy. And you can always play it differently. such a pleasure.

Une extrême intensité, un vibrato splendide, une présence de tous les instants, une sonorité superbe, une compréhension immense de l'oeuvre.
J'aime aussi énormément la direction du chef, Pablo Heras-Casado, complètement à l'unisson avec Maxim Vengerov.
Et l'orchestre qui colorie, souligne, intervient, sans jamais dominer - en tout cas, dans cette prise de son (mais je pense que c'était la même chose en direct).

Well there are other great players: Hadelich, Hahn, but yes Vergerov is wonderful.
I just bought my first violin and first instrument ever, four days ago. This just doesn’t seem humanly possible, yet here he is! Amazing! Absolutely amazing!
Not sure if I’d ever have chance to hear Maxim playing this (or anything) in person. I started to love his music since the 90s when I was in high school and heard him playing various repertoire over and over and always amazed and loved his energy and virtuoso so much. And this concert makes me remember how much I love Bruch and Maxim! Bravo!! 🎉

This wonderful violinist is awe inspiring. I have played many other videos of the Bruch Violin Concerto No 1 but, having found this soloist, I shall always return to this video. He remains more or less on the same spot throughout and doesn’t move the violin at all angles. Perhaps because of this it feels as if he is conveying the music and not himself. Many thanks for downloading.

I saw him play this concerto in 2019 at the Dallas Symphony with Zian Zlang conducting. Amazing. Both of them.

I am fond of the Heifetz/Munch pairing. 1st and 2nd mvt of Vengerov is at par with aforementioned pair. The orchestra here is a beast, I must say. Triple bravo to Casado for magnificent guidance

That's some very thoughtful camera work!
When I was working on this piece, my professor made and gave me a copy of her personal sheet music from when she studied at Julliard. It has Ivan Galamian’s notes and markings in pencil all throughout, as that was who she studied under during her time there.
Outside of the music world, specifically the string world, not many people can quite understand what a big deal and an honor that is to be in possession of such a thing.
“The Bruch” is definitely a fun one to play!
