You should write a children's book about a stubborn little Navajo girl who refused to wear her shoes until the clever grampa snuck them on her with a horse, haha! Thank you for sharing this touching story.
Yup you said it perfect. Thank you for watching and thank you for your understanding and empathy. I miss my Nali and Bizhi the whole bunch!! Love and hugs. Navajo Grandma
Aww, Navajo grandma, I give you a "like" because I can't give you a "love". Blessings to you and yours, I visited Navajo land in Monument Valley last Oct. and felt like I was at home, like I've been there before, I wanted to run around barefooted in the red dirt. I am of Mexican (& many Natives) descent.
Oh Brenda, what a kind comment of Hozho. Thank you so much my grandchild. Monument Valley is gorgeous. Thank you for watching and learning and listening. Hugs always. Navajo Grandma
Hi Jackie, you and I have the same heart strings I can tell. Aheehe'. Thank you for taking the time to hear my story about my binding shoes. So true. How I learned to wear pumps, I have no idea, teenage years. hahaha. Hugs always. Navajo Grandma
Trish, I could give you an online hug. Thank you for thinking I could write a children's book. I do write in my journal and I write poems that make me cry as they are about my grandparents, my life with them, how I revere them all. Thank you again for your kind words. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Walk proudly in your dear Grandfathers shoes , barefooted to feel the Earth beneath your feet . Your natural instinct to refuse shoes was the right one . Your Grandfather knew you had to conform to be safe - what a heartfelt story . Thank you for your important message . Sublime ❤
Rebecca you have a kind loving heart, I heard it with love and Hozho as I read your comment. You have such a loving heart, a happy heart and a healthy heart. Just beautiful. Your comment is perfectly perfect. I so appreciate your watching this and what you said. My tears can't help but muddle my thoughts with heart strings that pull thinking of my dear paternal grandparents who lovingly raised me and cared for me in so many gentle way, always loving, always with prayer and with wisdom. How blessed I was as a child. Hugs to you my dear sweet Rebecca. Grandma loves you so. Navajo Grandma
Oh sweet Mary, thank you for sharing your tears with me because it is real. Our grandparents, grandfather's and grandmothers are unreplaceable. The memories flood my hearstrings and man at times it is hard to hold back tears missing them and realizing that that which is good within yourself came from your parents and grandparents. It is sobering and again thank you for your heart and your tears. Hugs always. Navajo Grandma
Thankyou Teacher for your story. Don't be sad your Grandpa is in a better and beautiful place. God Bless him and you walk in peace! Your a wonderful lady!
You really hit home for me on this one. My grandpa was my everything. We didn't live on a reservation but he felt the need to be on council as well. Taught me to ride and how horses are our best friends and cousins. He had shown me how to break them in and ride bareback. I was always stuck to his hip from sun up to sun down even on life squad and fire runs. Hearing your story brought back a lot of memories and touched the heart. As well I was the same way with my shoes. He told people it was a calling from Creator to keep me grounded to mother and Creator where I belong.
Daniel, what precious expressions from your heart as well. You and I are kindred spirits I see. I can see you riding, breaking the horses and how you were by your grandpa's side. Thank you for sharing what so vividly came to me as I also feel the same way. Hugs always. Navajo Grandma
Daniel that last statement was absolutely Godly and from the tongue of angels "He told people it was a calling from Creator to keep me grounded to mother and Creator where I belong." I just could hug you so and weep. Thank you. Thank you. Navajo Grandma
I like when you say " today is a beautiful day" 💖. What a beautiful memory. you have a special bond with your grandfather. That's wonderful! It's a treasure memory. 💖
Hi Marcey, boy you have watched a lot of grandma's videos and thank you for commenting too that you didn't like shoes either. Welcome to the party. Thank you for your comment. Goodnight and hugs. Navajo Grandma
Linda what a wonderful comment you just gave. Our grandparents are amazing and wonderful. I pray we will continue to emulate their goodness always. Navajo Grandma
Thank you for the remembrance of your grandparents, especially your grand father .I was very close to my grandfather , my moms Dad.I spent a lot of time with him, and loved , and now cherish all those moments . You, and I are of like minds, and hearts. Thank you so much.😊❤
Larry, what a lovely comment!! I enjoyed every word. The best was when you said, "You and I are of like minds, and hearts. Thank you so much!!" that gave me such hugs of goodness and I can't help but say thank you so much!! I loved this comment. I tell you all you are all pure writers of the heart and it is the best. Navajo Grandma
Thank you so much and as always you are so complimentary and grandma needs that more than you know. Also the truths of the words you speak. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
@@NavajoGrandma Being strong, and kind isn't always easy, but Grandma you make the world a better place to live in. You teach and you care not just for your family but everyone. Beings don't shine any brighter than you Grandma. Now a lesson about MAGIC! Magic isn't what they show it to be in the movies. It is real and it works often. The key is confidence. I'm getting ahead of myself. The Universe has only one law "Kindness ", It will not break this law. So if you pray, make a request ect. If it is truly a kind request it will grant your wish. I have already asked the Universe to end capitalism and the bloodshed it requires. So lets wait a few years and see if it goes away. I have requested the wind to stop many times, and most of the time it stoped . I have prayed for good weather when a storm was forecast and got it. It works. Grandma you are a huge Empath . The Universe that we all are loves you. Ask for what you need and think this can really happen. If you think it won't, you will have told the Universe that you changed your mind. So stay positive. I love you , your U Tube counseling helps all of us. We are all the Universe after all.
@@kurtbogle2973 Beautifully & well spoken Kurt. It is true what you say. Its great to find others who have pure faith and that what we speak does happen or occurs. This is what I do as well, if its too hot and sometimes the cooler isn't doing so well, I also pray and out of the blue a cloud from nowhere appears overhead and follows us to our destination as we are kept cool and we arrive with that cloud that passes once we arrive. So many instances are the miracle of faith we have. In the last days it is said, the miracles that happened in the bible will return and to some like us, miracles haven't ceased, they are real and ever present. Thank you for your wonderful comment and sharing your point of view. Its wonderful & full of faith. Navajo Grandma
Beautiful story today. I understand. I miss my paternal grandparents. They would each visit with 1 grand child for 15 minutes and we could talk about anything we wanted or needed to. They called it our time. Such great memeries.
Patricia how wonderful that you were given time with your grandparents, that is awesome. Keep the memories by writing down what you shared and what advise or counsel you were given and if you still follow them. Enjoy. Navajo Grandma
Ive lived a life different than you but yet, very much the same! It was my Mother’s parents that raised me & it was MY GrandDaddy (as I called him) who also walked on water! My heart jumped within me to hear someone else talk about their Grandfather with such reverence as I have for mine! He is in Heaven now & I know thru Christ, I will see him again. Im so lonely these days though, for my grandparents, especially my Grandfather. I wept when you wept & I can not explain it but we are certainly kindred spirits. Thank you for sharing this kind story. Ive written short stories about things God has seen me thru as well. This world is so messed up & worse every day. Yet, there is a remanent of those that have that thread of gold like this that resonates thru us & hits that certain note. A string of the heart that is powerful & greater than the evil out there. That chord is amazing when played! 🙌🏼 Ya know, Ive lost my daughter suddenly on a cold Christmas morning years ago & now my Grandparents are gone too. I lost my home & have no place of my own. My husband & I are living out in the country alone. No tv. (I do thank God I have him). Its quiet here & I was searching my phone when I found you. Thank you for sharing a part of yr heart. You are in my prayers & again, I just wanted to say Thank you. I shall not forget you. Bless you. 🙏🏻
D B, what a loving, tender, heartfelt comment of Hozho(peace, beauty, balance & harmony from within you, which we Dine' call Hozho.) I was moved by your heartstrings that were pulled like mine also everytime I refer or remember my Nali, my paternal grandfather and grandmother(Bizhi). Yes exactly what you said, "A string of the heart that is powerful & greater than the evil out there. That chord is amazing when played!" Thank you, what a powerful comment of the heart. You should write about those tender memorable moments no matter how small with which sustains you in your tears, hard times, but does give you happy thoughts that keep helping you move forward. That is what my happy thoughts of my life with my grandparents does for me, and my parents/family. We are indeed blessed no matter in what circumstances we find ourselves in. Thru this pandemic we lost everything too. My husband and I lived in our van until my children found out. Now I have a one room we live in, cramped, but it reminds me of the hogan I grew up in and do the same things my grandparents did by washing dishes with a cup of warm to hot water, rinsing in the same amount, cooking on a one stove top from Walmart that cost $12 and a tea pot that you plug in for hot water. We share a bathroom, no kitchen, my table is my kitchen. I leave as often as I can as I love the outdoors and walk, run, and keep my husband walking as he had a stroke a year ago Christmas. Tho we find ourselves in these situations and pray to God to help us find a home, we are doing what we should in this situation. We are grateful and that is what we need to be. I love you so my dear DB, you and your husband!! What gems we find in the midst of this mess of a world we have, and you are the sunshine, the light that shines giving love, hope and sharing your dear loving thoughts the happy thoughts of grandparents whom were and still are the light of our lives. I say when we pass thru the veil to the spirit world, boy is there going to be a huge party, coming together, hugs, tears, wailing and joy unmeasureable. But we are still here, now lets make the best of it. Smile and know Navajo Grandma heard you, I send my healing hugs always, remember this is my prayer for you, "that you and your husband shall walk and run and not faint, the the angel of death shall pass you by, that the God of this land shall bear you up, sustain you, feed you, protect you and spare your lives." You are precious!! I wish I could just pick you both up and hug you both to bits. Thank you for reaching out, we are indeed of one heart and it took you to allow me to discover you in this comment in our Navajo grandma family. You are needed and loved here. Tho we are online, we breath, we are alive and are real people, we need to be loved, accepted, cared for, and given the chance to enjoy life with happy thoughts. Pray always and know God is fully aware of you as you know. Care for one another and yes, I am happy I have a husband too tho he is frail at times, I keep him as strong as he can be. We pray together and work together, I am the one singing to him, making him laugh, supporting him even when times are rough. But we do it and God gives us the strength to do so. Never give up!! Keep moving, keep washing those dishes, keep waking up with a smile no matter with aching joints, or whatever, we have gone thru a battle in life and deserve a happy thought to keep us going. We matter. Now go sweep the kitchen floor, make breakfast, tea, walk a bit, smile, and maybe do something for someone you don't know and spread some joy and cheer. They don't need to know who did it, just leave it with a note that they matter. Love you and hugs for always from Navajo Grandma. I seriously would love to know where you are. I don't know if you can email me but here is my email address: dinehgrandma@gmail.com Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Thank you for shering such an emotional story with us. I'm crying because I miss him so much!! Thank you Navajo Grandma for bringing back those memories into my heart! ❤
You are so inspirational to so many of us, absolutely love your stories, traditions and all you are. Thank you for sharing everything, we do hear about our value here and our Mother Earth, families, friends, animals and all. Just glued to your channel. From my heart to yours.
My dear Rose!! How kind you are to give Navajo Grandma your goodness & complimenting Hozho. I am so grateful to you for watching, learning and appreciating what is presented by a Grandma. Thank you and blessing you with New Year health, healing, great prosperity and wisdom to use what's Godly given to you in ways to give a hand up emotionally, spiritually, physically and psychologically to all in need. We are born leaders, with God's blessings. Now be more amazing the next 363 more days left of this year. Hugs from Navajo Grandma
Thank you for believing in Navajo Grandma. I do all I can to teach what my Nali and Bizhi taught me. I am grateful you are learning, watching and appreciating how plain, yet real my dear videos are, they are not Hollywood, but of truth and reality by a real Dine' woman, grandma. Thank you for subscribing. Grandma just returned from Her genealogy trip across the US. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
@@NavajoGrandma I will always believe! I’m 32 now with 4 kids and a beautiful wife. I’m just now learning my roots and I want to indulge my self in learning. Everything about our ancestors and history. I want my kids to know who we are as Navajos. I didn’t have that growing up and I was an outcast. I grew up in Los angles ca and I still live out her. I’m hoping soon I’ll go to the Rez and learn more!
@@nativefamily8949 Actually you can stay there and learn, but yes, it helps to go back to the rez to relearn, experience the culture little by little, and as you keep coming back and your children familiarize themselves with their culture, their minds will grow and learn and their desire will continue. But give them learning experiences the best you can. You see when I was a single mother and I had my children I knew in order for them to learn to read and write I had to teach them learning skills, drawing, writing, singing, seeing numbers, letters, colors, teaching them through songs, helping me cook like putting ingredients together with mom, then teaching them to pray, why, who we were praying to, who God is and learning the spirit within us, and its connection to our God, and all that was created for us. There were a lot of reading writing skills that children are magnetic to. I hope your children are young. That is the best age to teach them. Teenagers become a headache, but once they know you are serious, and you enjoy and make learning their culture fun, enjoyable, rewarding, with prayer, they will desire it. That is the same with learning who they are, their Dine' heritage, culture, language. Keep it simple. You as their father need to practice it and as they watch that you are serious they will desire it. Videos help as well. Gosh you don't know how I wish all my children were young again. Too long. I send to you success in this, Hugs. Navajo Grandma
@@NavajoGrandma your right I can stay here and learn, thank god to technology!!🙏🙏 my kids are young I have 1 teen, and 3 that are not in their teens yet. But look at your background the landscape is pure and beautiful, I won’t to go! I wrote you on IG. My name is @theorginalnavajojoe This pandemic allowed me to spend more time why my kids and teach them about life and the relationship they should be seeking. And Speak love Into the world. It also helped me stop and take a look at my self, now I’m a proud father and blessed to have my family. They are my blessing 😊
Oh Master Fox Fire, you almost made grandma cry. Memories that are priceless that tug at the heart strings are powerful. I pray you write your memories of your grandparents, that it is your story and no one else' for those days when we need an extra jolt of humility, love, hugs and wisdom from the past. This is all we take with us. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Charmaine that is what I want to hear. This tells me you interacted and knew your grandfather. Few do and even while their grandparents are alive they do not see the great value in having the. I pray we all do. There is so much value and morals, love and hugs a grandparent can give. You will always know you are important when around them. They teach wisdom like no one else. I loved that and now I am my grandparents. It always works out that way. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Thank you dear Candace, what do you mean, we both cry. They are precious memories. How is your story coming along sweetheart. We all have a story and we have a need to remember to write them down for posterity, our family, friends, etc. It also will serve you when you are down, alone or just happy. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
@@NavajoGrandma Thank you, 💕your stories are much more interesting then mine! I have considered writing stuff down for my grandkids. Maybe write them in the form of letters to each of them. Thank you again!
Please do right books about your grandparents. There are a whole lot of the older generations, making their transitions into the spirit world. That means, there will be a whole lot of great knowledge and wisdom that will be lost, unless we find a way to preserve them. I know, I would feel honored and privileged to meet your grand parents, through your writing. It is really beautiful to see someone, truly love their grandparents. Bless you for your story.
Thank you for sharing your childhood memories with us. I especially miss my Grandpa. He was funny and kind. He always reminded us kids to love our mother because she was the only one we had. I loved my Grandpa but wish I had listened better to his message because he was the only Grandpa K we had.
You have become wise and hope you write down your wonderful memories of such a good man your grandpa was and still is through you. Excellent comment. Love you. Navajo Grandma
@@NavajoGrandma Yes, I've now started writing those memories. They bring me comfort. Love and hugs and a heartfelt thank you to you, Navajo Grandma for inspiring me. 💕🤗 🙏 💕
Elena thank you for watching, and really listening to grandma's heart. Those who truly listen are the jewels of all our hearts. Hugs and Happy Valentine's Day. Navajo Grandma
Thank you grandma. I lived on a Rach. I ride my horse to school every day. I never see my granddaughter. I raised her. But she has forgotten me. I love you grandma.
Elsie, I am sorry that your granddaughter seems to have forgotten you. As I grew older I was busy with my teenage life, visited my Bizhi now and then, then high school was more intense preparing for college, visited my Bizhi now and then, then onto meeting someone whom I should not have married, had a horrible marriage with children, wrote to my Bizhi not as often as I should have. In 1985 she died. My entire world fell apart again after my Nali died in 1976. I was not allowed to go to his funeral because I was pregnant and they were afraid I would miscarry. Awful. So back to my Bizhi (paternal gma) I went to her funeral. It was devastating. All those "I should've, could've crushed my thoughts as I held her cold hands and kissed her forehead and put my head on her chest for the last time. Too little too late. This dear woman taught me everything in life through my Nali (paternal gpa), it was her strength and when they say "behind every good man is a good woman." It was beyond true. It wasn't until I talked with my auntie within the last year as she gave me one of my Bizhi's blanket which she wasn't suppose to have kept, she gave it to me and told me it was my Bizhi's. She said do not let anyone know. As they burn everything that belongs to the dead in the Eastern Agency where I come from and there is a reason for this I found in researching, So then a few months back my auntie said to me, "your grandmother wept and wept, she loved you so much, you were like her daughter, she suckled you, nursed you, cared for you, you were everything to her. She missed you utterly so much, she wept and wondered where you went and how you were doing. She always talked about you. When you came to visit she was beyond happy as you always hugged her to death, kissed her cheeks to death, and walked with her holding her hands and hugging her. She lived for that. My regrets beat me up with intense torture. I never knew how much my Bizhi loved me. I have awful regrets. I wish your granddaughter could see how she will have regrets to high heaven when she realizes one day you aren't around anymore. Life takes us places and soon at times we forget all who sacrificed and loved us and comforted us, clothed us, fed us to get where we are now. Pray to God she remembers. Regrets are intense & painful. I have forgiven myself, I went to her and my Nali's grave yesterday. Rearranged the flowers and wished I could hug her. I talked to her and gpa. I reported good news that I have become a good woman like my Nali always said, that I am Navajo Grandma, that their teachings are what helped me through life and even now when things are a little upside down. Elsie, it hurts more than I can express I know. I weep when my grandchildren don't visit either when I had a home. I know they are busy living their lives and it is hard to let go and allow them to. Then they realize their stupidity when they lose a loved grandparent or family member and finally they are spouting all the goodness of that person. I hate that. I am making amends in more ways to remember all. That is also why I answer all my comments with love and understanding. I love you Elsie for having a pure loving heart and a caring heart to have spent many days, nights, evenings, years, cooking, cleaning, buying clothes for, mending clothes for, hugging, drying tears for and the many things you did for your granddaughter. If you know where she is, write her a letter and let her know how you feel. Remind her of the experiences you had raising her and in the end , ask her how a person can forget a grandma who sacrificed herself for the good of her granddaughter. I would say that. Its up to you. But don't you spend another tear or moment believing you aren't needed, Navajo Grandma needs you. Remember this. I love you so. 202-568-4557. Call me anytime, I would love to talk with you. Hugs galore forever. Navajo Grandma
That was my middle name "no shoes," (bih keh adin) I spelled that phonetically for you which means (she/he has no shoes). That's what my Bizhi or Auntie would call me. I love it still. Although as you grow older somehow those pebbles and rocks and stickers do happen to feel more painful YULK! But gpa always says, "get your shoes on!! LOL. Love your comment my fellow "bih key adin buddy!! Love you so!! Happy thoughts!! Navajo Grandma
My maternal grandfather I did not know, my paternal grandfather was dead before i was born...ive seen pics of them. I know i have first nations heritage from both sides, because i feel it so strongly ive always had horses in my life. The scenery and your stories bring tears to my eyes, I feel your emotions! Big huggs Grandma!!!🤗🤗👍👋😘
Horses are awesome, sometimes they are almost human. You are a wonderful soul and that is probably why these horses are in your life, they sense your goodness and they desire to be near you. Remember this. Things just don't happen. Hugs to you with love. Navajo Grandma
I understand you completely,I was so very close to my daddy ,He taught me how to cook ,and I learned a lot from listening to the stories of when he grew up in that old odobi house that my grandpa made , working in the cotton fields so many more stories, we are Medellin, and he is from Yuma Arizona....oh you filled my heart tonight with beautiful thoughts grandma ❤️🙏thank you
Sherrie you have a story, a beautiful story, write it down, share your heart, your thoughts, what you learned, how you felt. Not how your siblings did, but you, its yours. Then when things aren't going well, rejuvenate yourself with these memories and strengthen yourself, its a wonderful way to be a Savior to yourselve during times like now. Hugs galore from Grandma
Connie your words of wisdom should be etched upon every home and building. We need to connect with love, harmony, peace, balance and beauty through our life experiences and remember our relationships of being kind, serving one another. That itself is called "Hozho and Ke'." We are an amazing family no matter what culture we come from, we are one family really. Thank you for your wisdom. Hugs always. Navajo Grandma
I cried with you, why? Because I felt how happy you were hanging out with your GrandPapi. All through my younger years, always wanted a grandpa. Both my grandpas passed on to the other life way before I was even born. But I get so happy when I hear grandpa stories. He must of been a wonderful, loving Grandpa to you, Stay blessed
Yes, both my grandpa (Nali) and grandma (Bizhi), they were wonderful and more than anything I knew them like my parents because my mom and dad gave me to them to care for me while my mother was sick. I was with them until I was 8 years old. Yes, I love them so much and miss them tons as you feel too. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
This was an awesome story. You are a bit of what some would call a "rebel" because you defy their paradigm of normality and complicity. You are a powerful soul and Spirit is strong in you, thank you for spreading your message. I wish more people could take their shoes off and return to our natural way.
Well yes, I did grow up in the white man's world along with the Dine' way of life learning from my grandparents. And yes, the problem was the shoe thing in both worlds. Now, I still go barefoot, wash and lotion my feet a lot. Haha. I appreciate your compliment of Hozho, I learned all from my Nali and Bizhi who were the leaders in our community. Great examples. Keep watching and learning. There's more. Navajo Grandma
Hi grandma, that's such a beautiful story. Reminded me of my grandparents, I did grew up with them also. At times I think about them. Love ur grandparents everyone. Take care grandma and truly love you😙.
I get visuals when some people tell their stories. I seen the palomino (my favorite as a little girl) you on top concentrating and grandpa putting them on one by one. There are a whole host of physical reasons and spiritual reasons why we should go barefoot whenever we can. Thank you for sharing.
Tracy, I tell you everytime I read the comments about this video, I have been weeping. There are so many heartstrings tugging here and I am so thankful that we are all grateful for our grandparents, parents, families, friends. And yes, I will always remain barefoot for how it grounds me to mother earth, and actually heals me in more ways than I can explain. Hugs always for your precious comments. Hugs, Navajo Grandma

Awe... Great video! With tears. If I may... Share.... I'm a barefoot girl too. People and realitives tell me you need your shoes... I say to them...my feet are tasting the Earth, how do you know where you come from without it. Children who eat dirt, they are learning where they come from. I'm 68 yrs. old, Still barefoot, I can walk on rocks. I also love to Wade in water, winter or not. You have my heart N.G. 💞
Hi there Charlotte, we are kindred spirits and I am still your grandma. I always love reading your precious comments. No matter where or who we are, having the spirit of love, care, kindness, willing to listen to each other can create ties that can be eternal. Sending hugs. Navajo Grandma

Grandparents are a blessing to children... you get away from rules sometimes. When I was with them it was home and in country. When mom and dad got back there were the rules until I got old enough. Then ma and pa changed. I love listening to good memories we keep our love ones alive in stories and traditions. We also learn to deal with the world. I light a plain white candle in candle holder on their birthday or the day they were buried since I cant get to them cause they're in Jamaica. Its the for purity, peace, and the eternal light. Just out the light without blowing it out when youre not home or going to sleep. Until next video time, grandma if I may get call you that. Well have our tea time chat...what ever next time subject is...dont cry If you believe this, they are with you when you least expect it sometimes its the smell of their cologne, perfume, pipe smoke or a smile or feeling or you coincidently come across a picture or something they had passed on to you. They know...
Kamala, I wish I could just gather everyone of my video commenters, you first in line, and hug you all. I would cry. Everyone of you are so individually gentle, caring, full of love, great listeners, amazing thru our communications online and everyone of you are my grandchildren. I love your comments, so precious and real. We will have our tea time chat..what precious words. I send my grandma hug to you and thank you for your amazing heart. Navajo Grandma
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful precious story with us. I can totally understand you , I also loved to walk barefoot and feel Mother Earth under my feet when I was in countryside and when holiday season was over and I had to go back to school and put shoes on, my feet felt imprisoned. I hope that native people don't forget about their beautiful spiritual culture.
Alexa, you and I have a common spirit, what you just expressed was exactly how I felt. I pray we as Native American never forget our culture and our history as you say. Now don't forget your own too. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Man oh man oh man. This was everything and then some.. "Everything he is I am". "Ask your grandmother about her life and drink tea with her". My mother told me since the day I was born, I came out with my grandmother's spirit. And my grandmother says that I am just like her grandmother, a medicine woman. I have this very fierce connection to my grandmothers personality and always carry her with me through life and carry my Native foremothers and fathers deeply in my cell memory. My grandmother has had sarcoidosis for 30 years and has been on bedrest for over 10 years and has been through so much trauma in life and has the voice of the sweetest soul. She always ALWAYS sounds like she is smiling even when she is not. I often cry knowing shes in physical pain so I do whatever I can to ease her. She has seen me graduate high school, get married, give birth naturally, put her indian family name in my sons middle name LandDrum, watch my son pow wow, and has watched my son flourish as a toddler and as the 7th generation restoring indigenous traditions. We visit her all of the time and send videos to her. I make it a point to make large containers of medicine tea for her to enjoy as she pleases with herbs that I hope remind her of the medicines of her grandmothers and our people that I harvest just for her and buy in bulk. I do everything I do in my community and with my son just for her. So she can see that her bloodline divinely lives on in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. That our womb medicines are restored from 2 generations of interruption so we can heal the traumas of our women. She will not be forgotten. There is so much I wish I could still do but I am grateful for what I have done. My beloved grandmother, my sunflower. One of the many things I cherish from the most high is that I am always surrounded by beautifully spirited Native grandmothers who remind me of my own grandmother. Thank you Navajo Dine grandma. You too bring me so much joy.
Ebony, sweetie, I felt like I read your heart in so many spiritual ways, with such deep love, respect, honor and reverence for your grandmother. What a powerful depth of love few can speak from their heart because it is genuine. Thank you always. Hugs with a Merry Christmas and a glorious New Year. Navajo Grandma

I miss their laughter, their voices, their consistent love, hugs, and respect, always full of wisdom that oozed out daily. I am so imperfect but, what I share is true, it is how I can explain my life as a Dine' woman raised on the reservation and then entering the white man's world. Like I have said before, I feel your Hozho you so dearly give to me, that is worth more than any animate object in this world. Hugs galore and I send my prayers as well to comfort, hold you, hug you, keep you safe and warm. Navajo Grandma
🙏 beautiful 😍I hate shoes too always have 🦎 ur grandad sounds like a beautiful person sadly I never met mine they passed before I was born 🌹 so thank you again for sharing this lovely story & knowledge 💖🙏🌠xxx
Tish, thank you for listening and appreciating the stories of my childhood. I had a wonderful Nali and Bizhi. Sure miss them but I know I will see them again. Hugs to you. Navajo Grandma
Well Elsie you and I are kindred spirits then. Welcome to grandma's videos and hope you stay awhile and remember through grandma's experiences that it probably was more like grandma's in more ways than this. Love you for remembering your life. Navajo Grandma (now go write it down).
God Bless you.. I didn't have a Grandfather. He died long before I was born. I had my Aunt & my Grandmother that raised me. Like you I Love & Miss them Very Much. It brings me to tear's remembering the Beautiful memories I have with them.. Thank you for sharing the Beautiful story of you're Grandfather. May God's Blessing's Surround You & You're Loved Ones
Lisa G, always with precious comments dear one. But how blessed you were to be raised by your Auntie and Grandmother. Keep those memories tucked in your heart for they make you strong and almost as perfect as they were with their few misgivings, but still perfect right? Hugs always, Navajo Grandma
I was raised by my grandparents also until I was 11, I love my grandparents very much also and I did take care of my grandma before she died just like she took care of me and all my memories of childhood within them our wonderful memories and I cherish every moment that I got to spend with them for me they could walk on water and do no wrong, and I prefer wearing my moccasins over any type of shoes also
Hi Michelle, like Grandma said before, write these wonderful times you spent with your grandparents, tell us what you felt, why, what you did and how you did the cultural things your people did. Keep this as a keepsake, keep those sacred moments so you don't forget. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Them dancing to the song Chiquitita with me and singing it to me and traveling vacationing to Mexico we used to go at least three times a year and then nurturing me take me to the grocery store buying stuff especially for me like my Grandpa would buy me oranges and Tootsie Rolls or watching my grandfather do his carpentry and helping them learning are helping my grandmother gardening learning lessons from my grandmother and grandfather teaching me about our ancestors from the Americas and from Europe and getting everything ready for the holidays I was one of hundreds of grandchildren but the only one they raised and I used to help her get her nativity scene for baby Jesus and Mary and Joseph and all the animals she'd always have one of those set up and I would put my little toys in there and I would play in her nativity scene during the holidays and helping pick out presents for my cousins and aunts and uncles making enchiladas and tamales and Mexican Coco there are so many memories I have of my grandparents and me I love them so very much
My grandmother and grandfather had the Abba 8-track in the car and you my grandmother would seeing to me Chiquitita all the time and I believe in angels all the time and my grandfather and I would just smile Mile after mile traveling to Mexico
I was crying with you ! When I was a little girl of 4 yes old I stayed with my grandparents for a week I loved it but I couldn’t understand them for they spoke Spanish and I didn’t. But I still had a good time and learn a few words while I was there . My mother didn’t teach use to speak Spanish nor wanted us to for whatever reason she had . But I do love my grandparents even tho we couldn’t have deep conversations because of the language difference. I feel so close to you my Navajo grandmother ❤️
What a wonderful mixture of family, their work and yes wood. I love wood, I love to build. I built my chicken coop if that counts. As the coops had to be like cabinets inside and my chickens were spoiled. I am moving soon and had to give up my other home after my husband had a stroke. We are totally far away from where we moved to and now my plans are so different and looking forward to settling down in a huge cabin I made a floor plan for and help build. You are so blessed to have such a wonderful family and wood builders. I envy you. Navajo Grandma
I live in Germany. When i was a kid, we used to hike a lot in the Alps and the hills around our hometown. I had to wear those thick heavy hiking boots. I hated them because they were so heavy and stiff and chafed me till i had big blisters at the heels and soles. Later in my life i tried to wear selfmade moccassins or even go barefooted. And that worjs very fine, my feet enjoy it really. Also you feel more the Earth. I think you are right about listening to the elders/grandparents/parents because its to late when they are gone!
Its mother earth who was created for us, the magnification from her core is what is healing to our feet. Its lovely to go barefoot now and then. I wear scandals that I can throw off easy. You live in a place I have always dreamed of going. Just gorgeous. What a happy place to grow up in and to see daily. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Wow.... amazing story... you told it very well. I could listen to you all day, I don’t have any grandparents, and my child only has my mother as a grandparent. I wish things could’ve been different...
Actually you have dozens in the spirit world who love you more than anything. If you sit quietly and prayerfully you will sense them, when you have almost gotten hurt and you felt someone saved you, it was them. You are not alone and you never will be. I hope you are prayerful, and allow yourself to feel the presence of your ancestors. I am just here to teach you and help you along too. Watch, learn, listen, enjoy. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Thank you for sharing stories and scenery. I stayed in Ariz when i was 14-16, and i was in heaven, loved it. And i wondered how so much of the world could miss the beauty of the people and the area (the deserts, the blue sky against the red mesas, etc. ) It is still my favorite state and i've seen over half the states, have seen Stonehenge (awesome) in the UK. But the southwest desert will always be my favorite. THANK YOU for sharing with those of us who can't be there, i miss it so much.
Vera, sometimes speaking of heartstrings can be emotional but good for the soul to raise within us love, understanding, kindness, patience, forgiveness or anything else we might need to realize appreciation. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
@@NavajoGrandma Yes indeed. Keep up with your videos. I love them immensely. You are a very special person and we, as audiences, learn lessons for the heart.
Well, it is wonderful that you see them in your dreams. I hate cremating but oh well. In fact in the Dine' way, you are not suppose to, but it happens. Thank you for your comments. Love you. Navajo Grandma
Thank you for sharing your heart with us. Thank you to your Grandfather. I'm sure he sees you and loves knowing the stories are continuing on. I don't like shoes either, even though I loved my black patent leather Mary Janes when I was little. Had to always go through the blister stage, because yes, they were stiff. I'd polish them with Vaseline. My foot doctor told me my feet look like one of the Flintstones from going barefoot my whole life. Lol 😆
Kerri, what a darling comment and yes we love bare feet. No wonder my shoes are always wide and not narrow like other female shoes, they always are too narrow and I end up wearing boys shoes that are wide, but found some heels eventually tha worked that were wide. Totally understand. Love you comment. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Good morning Kurt, thank you for being so complimentary. Yes, as you experience life and grow older you gain a greater sense of empathy and understanding and looking back as well too. You realize what your parents or grandparents were doing and why, at times it can break your heart as we all do miss our parents and grandparents. Everyday I value them more and more. But I know, one day we all shall meet them again. That is not a hope, it is fact. Hugs to you. Thank you always for supporting and watching and learning from Navajo Grandma
Joyce, we are all blessed. I never had most things in life, but I am rich in value, morals, spirit of tenacity, and those family members who we grew up around are our blessings. Thank you again for your precious comments. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Jackie glad you took your precious time and in your break watched and hopefully gained insight of my Nali’s wisdom and teaching me wisdom as a child. I pray you remember your grandpa as I do. I honor my nali even as he is in the spirit world. Navajo Grandma
Another beautiful and touching story! a sketch with every one of your stories would be really awsome. You may end up writting a book someday👐 thank you for sharing such a treasured memory💖
I hated shoes too I would take them off at school I loved running in the mud I really dont know when I got use to them my teacher would always remind me to put my shoes on I would cry told her I didn't like how they felt but she would help me put them on I'm so happy you had a wonderful childhood and good memories thank you may God bless you and your family with more beautiful experiences..
I jiihovahbildanjoo, hope I spelled it right. You and I are kindred barefoot spirits. How awesome is that? Thank you for always commenting with precious insight. Hugs always. Navajo Grandma
My family was broken since I was a baby, I never got to know my grandparents, they were not good people, they had abandoned my brother and I when we were tiny children. It's lovely to hear your stories and hear about the love from your grandpa, I wish so much that I had a loving grandparent who'd like to talk to me about their life. Your grandfather is such a hero to you and to everyone who hears about his patience and cleverness, and involvement. It's heart-warming and healing for us.
I never knew or had a relationship with my grandparents or parents as well. I think the best we can do is to be the role model for the younger generation.
Well Emilee L, I am your grandma for now. You have listened to my story, viewed my videos, and you always have commented with wisdom and sharing your heart. You are not alone ever, and what amazing understanding with such wisdom as you said, "its heart-warming and healing for us." And so it should be. Sending a huge hug!! Navajo Grandma.
Thank you so much for sharing a piece of your story with us. I hope you will continue to share stories like these so we can all learn from you and by extension your grandparents. My grandparents (especially my maternal grandparents) have been a huge part of my life. Spending time with them is so special. I miss going to visit them. It’s been almost a year since I was able to hug my grandparents. The pandemic and my grandfather’s preexisting lung problems means it isn’t safe for me to go see them right now. We do zoom and talk on the phone, but it’s not the same. I hope someday very soon I’ll be able to sit at their kitchen table again and listen to their stories.
Clare, what a wonderful grandchild you are. So few can express their memories and love so perfectly like you just did. A wonderful example you have become. Thank you. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Your story of love touched my heart deeply . Free shoeless spirit learned by the love of your grandpa Bless everyone w the love of true loving grandparents .
Sharon, thank you for your tender heart and seeing why I felt so emotional because of my learning and precious moments as a child from my Paternal grandparents taking me and caring for me from 18 months old till I turned 8 years old. You can not learn from your parents like your grandparents. It was the way it was because my mother was sick and daddy was a policeman and they couldn't care for me. Thank goodness that is why in the Dine' (Navajo) culture long ago the grandchildren were given to grandparents to care and teach them. How wise is that? Its from the wisdom, years of learning and experiences, patience and appreciation of life that as you get older you begin to realize what you could have done and yes, that is when the grandchildren become closer to you and you teach them with more love than you might have received. Just plain wisdom, love and patience. Said too much. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Thank you for taking time to share all of your wisdom I agree if it weren't for my grandmother I wouldn't of had the heart required to stay the course. I'm eternally grateful and blessed . I wanted to say I love the way and found it's my truth that as well and in order to teach the children one should stay close which I have three children myself I love that another human which is you said what my entitlre being knows instinctively that being on a child's level at times is nessicary to teach them and for the desire to be engaged . I will continue to support your videos cause I love the ways of your beautiful culture.
I love your observations, as it is true. I never knew that until I started remembering how my Nali was, always understanding the other person, walking in their shoes as it were(pun), and helping creatively and yes it was beautifully psychological wisdom. So many loved him as he always stood for them thru wind, rain, sleet, snow, freezing temperatures, he was riding Chogo (his Palomino Stallion) checking on them, bringing a pound of flour, some meat, apples in the winter, seeds, etc for their nourishment. Ironically, he knew their needs. I miss him so. And he did walk on water. Thank you for your lovely comment. Navajo Grandma
I ache for grandparents I never met. My mom was orphaned at 11. My Oma ( my dad's mom) was my shining light. My Opa passed away while I was cooking in my mom. They buried him on Easter, same day I came home from the incubator. I miss him like phantom of a person I would've adored. My dad told me he had parrots named Frodo and Gandalf and was artistic and musical. Im a birder. It was crazy to learn. Lol. I feel my gparents even though I never met 3/4 of them. I cherish them in Heaven.
Like grandma says, they are your angels that is why you feel them. Talk to them, let them know all you feel and pray for them and for them to pray for you. You are their precious posterity. Great comment. Navajo Grandma
Oh my gosh! Yaadílá you have me crying. Haha, yes you did. First off I am so thankful that you shared this story with us. You remind me of one of my aunties. So precious. You have me in tears, I recently lost my cheii. He was our Rock our foundation and before him was my grandmother. We lost her almost 7/8 years ago. So hearing you share your story was bittersweet. I would LOVE to hear you tell your story in our Navajo Language. Could you please. That story is precious. Hugs to you. ❤😪🌷😀 As my grandfather would say béegha and hand signal this "👌" (oh I miss him dearly 😪)
Yes, I will tell a story of my life in Dine' Bizaad just for you. Thank you for encouraging me to do so. Maybe do some subtitles, for reals. Navajo Grandma
(I'm known for writing "essays" and people can't stand it, but I want to share my feelings, so hear goes! I understand if it's too much to respond to. I just hope you don't mind reading it! :) Here goes!) Thank you for sharing this bittersweet, emotional story with us, Grandma. It is wonderful to hear how your Grandpa found a way to make something so uncomfortable at least bearable so you didn't cry. I, too, get emotional very easily when trying to share stories (and when singing anything that touches my soul, which is a lot.) Seeing you get emotional when talking about your Grandpa makes your experiences really touch my soul and causes me be able to connect with your life on a deeper level. Thank you for being raw and real with us. There are times for smiles, and time for tears and each is as valid as the other. I am grateful for your authenticity, seeing as how people have been taught to hide their tears & "negative" emotions for so long. I insisted on running around barefoot as a child as well. I'd run around in my grandparent's yard on the sharp lava and granite they had filling up a large area in the yard. My grandma never understood it and was always worried I was in pain, but it never hurt. It felt good! It felt good to touch Mother Earth's elements underneath my feet, as it was meant to be. With thick, rubber soled shoes, we lose that connection and end up dealing with sore feet, legs and back instead. Over time, I got used to shoes and my feet have become weak and unable to walk well barefoot anymore, except when I take off my shoes at a certain spot to ground myself and destress. That and I've gotten quite a few tacks, nails, fish hooks, needles, thorns, glass, burrs and other unpleasant things stuck in my foot and I'm afraid to go anywhere without shoes (even though I got a huge needle stuck though my shoe and a bit into my foot anyway. Guess not the greatest protective sole. xD) The saddest part, to me, has been not being able to swim barefoot - always have to use water shoes since I've gotten cut on glass a handful of times. :( You mentioned that your Grandpa made you a better person with his teachings, and I want you to know that I feel that you have the same effect on us. Your loving attitude and sharing of your experiences and things that life and your Grandpa taught you is passed on to us, just as your Grandpa's teachings passed on to you. Your presence, even if only online, is comforting. You stories make us laugh, cry, and learn. You help people from all over the world see into your life and culture, helping us to connect through our various experiences. You make a positive difference in so many people's lives. Regarding your Grandfather's negative experiences with the white man, it was only a few years ago that I began to learn of the extent of atrocities afflicted by the white man/government on Indigenous people, especially regarding reservation life, both in the past and now. Hearing the stories of boarding schools & of the conditions of current reservation life for many, if not all, tribes. To see the destruction wrought tears my heart into pieces. As much as your people have been through and still go through, you are still here, trying to teach people and spreading love, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, religious or spiritual beliefs and I am endlessly grateful that you are able to do that past all the pain you & your people have endured over generations. You are so appreciated, and so, so loved. Thank you for being our Grandma. Countless blessings to you. I will imagine sharing some time with you today while I drink my tea. I'll make sure we're both barefoot and ready for adventure. Hah!
Ariel, my Nali said when someone speaks with the spirit of our Creator, God, there is ultimate clarity, understanding, love, comfort that cuts through everything not of God. You just spoke with the voice of an angel, for angels only speak by the spirit of God. I salute your dignity as well, may your posterity all call you "blessed." I felt like I stepped through a spiritual realm as I read your comment & was healed. Ahehee Shi Yazhi. Ahehee. Thank you. Love you eternally my Ariel. Navajo Grandm
@@NavajoGrandma I am so very honored by your response and so grateful you received my message in as deep a place as I felt when I was writing it to you.
Thank you and knowing you felt the emotion tells me a great deal about you. I send my hugs to you and thank you for taking the time to watch, learn and enjoy. Hugs always from Navajo Grandma
I completely understand. My Maternal Grandfather was who I was closest to. My sympathies. Grandparents hung the moon to me. I miss my moccasins. I will get a copy pair one day.
Hey Grandma, I'm New Subscriber, 36 Years Old Female From Mobile, AL. My Great Great Grandma Was A Full Blooded Cherokee Indian. So,It Feels Natural To Call You Grandma
Hi CanSas State, what a cute name. Welcome and thank you for subscribing. It doesn't matter how old you are, I have commenters who are 80 years old calling me grandma. I think its awesome. Its also great to hear you are Cherokee, a beautiful, amazing people in their own right. Keep watching, there is so much more. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
So beautiful and moving story and you are so good storyteller. Thank you very much for sharing these memories with us. Perhaps you will inspire some children and grandchildren to be better and more respectful for their parents and grandparents. Many people from younger generations are too busy with their lives to spend some time with older people and to listen to their stories. They can certainly learn a lot from them.
Renata Ra, words of wisdom you just spoke with pure Hozho. Hats off to you as you are wise. Yes, its not that I am a storyteller, it is my experiences I have had that I express and finally expressing them on this channel. Thank you for allowing me to do that. Yes, I always pray that those who hear, will gain respect for their elders, their ancestors and allow good teachings to permeate their hearts and spirit with respect for all. Thank you for your wisdom. Navajo Grandma
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching and hearing grandma's stories from her childhood. So many lovely moments with my Nali and Bizhi. Hugs to you always. Navajo Grandma
Oh Hannah, your grandfather is resting from an incredible life, being your gpa. His memories will live out in you. He is gone only momentarily not forever. We will see our loved ones again to embrace them. Life does not end. Love you always. Navajo Grandma
You say that your childhood was poor but my sweet grandma you were richer than anyone I know. All that love!!
zabdelhady, Yes, your wisdom is strong and well, what precious words of Hozho and truth. Hugs to you this day and always. Navajo Grandma
You should write a children's book about a stubborn little Navajo girl who refused to wear her shoes until the clever grampa snuck them on her with a horse, haha! Thank you for sharing this touching story.
Ginnie you cutie, what a cute story you created in my mind. I was a little stubborn stinkie too, at least with shoes. Sending you hugs. Navajo Grandma
It's a lovely story. I agree.
Agree !
Thank you Navajo Grandma. A very touching story.
Hi Toni, thank you for watching and really listening to my heartstrings. I know you understand. Hugs.

Beautiful. ❤️ you should write a children’s book.
“I thought he was going somewhere when I saw the horse.” Grandpa.❤️
Oh my goodness, your story made me bawl my eyes out your stories match my life with Nali and Masani nali ....thank you..
Thank you for your kind comment. Navajo Grandma
Your welcome my Teacher!
Thank you so much! Thank you for watching and being a part of our Navajo Grandma family. I hope you have subscribed. Hugs from Navajo Grandma
What a beautiful story. I never liked shoes either. Love you Grandma.☮️💖🎶
Hi Marcey, boy you have watched a lot of grandma's videos and thank you for commenting too that you didn't like shoes either. Welcome to the party. Thank you for your comment. Goodnight and hugs. Navajo Grandma
Thank you for telling your story! I too was taken care of by my grandparents and I am them.
I love you Grandma, you are a credit to Grandma's everywhere!
Prayer is so, so important. Praying through the good and the hardships and struggles of life is so important. Your grandfather was a very wise man.
I love my NALI who taught me to want to pray as he showed me why prayer was top priority. Thank you, great comment..
@@NavajoGrandma I still tell my children friends and little granddaughter. I must write them down thank you
Ive lived a life different than you but yet, very much the same!
I don't know if you can email me but here is my email address: dinehgrandma@gmail.com

Your so blessed, your soul is pure! I’m Navajo and I was born with out my Navajo side. Thank you for all the stories! Please keep sharing
Many beautiful memories and stories Navajo Grandma. Thank you I say again for sharing them. They are precious your emotions are very pure.
Oh Master Fox Fire, you almost made grandma cry. Memories that are priceless that tug at the heart strings are powerful. I had a wonderful grandfather like you did. Thank God for our memories ❤
Hugs. Navajo Grandma
love your stories! Thank you! I always cry when you do. You have a very good, kind heart! Good memories are blessings!
What powerful words of Hozho Dina, Yes, we all need to do this. Navajo Grandma
Thank you for sharing your childhood memories with us. I especially miss my Grandpa. He was funny and kind. He always reminded us kids to love our mother because she was the only one we had. I loved my Grandpa but wish I had listened better to his message because he was the only Grandpa K we had.

My Mother’s family was Italian, but my Grandfather was a Cabinet Builder.
I was always around wood.
Vickie, your comment was awesome, keep watching and learning and visiting again and again. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
It broke my heart. Awwww. Blessings to you. ❤️
Thank you for sharing. Little hard to visit my grandparents. Both were cremated. I do see them in my dreams.
Grandma, Empathy is power, and your loaded with empathy.
Wat a beautiful story 🙏😊
Thank you! 🙂. Navajo Grandma
Poor little girl. You are blessed, I never knew a grandfather.
Joyce, we are all blessed. I never had most things in life, but I am rich in value, morals, spirit of tenacity, and those family members who we grew up around are our blessings. Thank you again for your precious comments. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Thank you! That was beautiful! 💟

Thank you always for the wisdom and heart, Grandma. I don’t like shoes either!
We are kindred spirits then. My winter shoes are scandals. Hugs to you always. Navajo Grandma
Your story of love touched my heart deeply .
Free shoeless spirit learned by the love of your grandpa
Bless everyone w the love of true loving grandparents .
Thank you for taking time to share all of your wisdom
I agree if it weren't for my grandmother I wouldn't of had the heart required to stay the course.
Thank you, "Grandma"... I loved this!

He used psychology, in the nicest way .what a man
I love your observations, as it is true.
They buried him on Easter, same
day I came home from the incubator.
:) Here goes!)
Thank you for sharing this bittersweet, emotional story with us, Grandma.
You mentioned that your Grandpa made you a better person with his teachings, and I want you to know that I feel that you have the same effect on us.

So beautiful and moving story and you are so good storyteller. Thank you
very much for sharing these memories with us. Perhaps you will inspire
some children and grandchildren to be better and more respectful for
their parents and grandparents. Many people from younger generations
are too busy with their lives to spend some time with older people and
to listen to their stories.
