    • @NavajoGrandma
      @NavajoGrandma 3 дні тому

      I don't know what happened but do this if you dare try again. I need to make a step by step video. Put 4 cups of flour in a bowl. Put your dry ingredients together first, salt, baking powder. Sift together with your fingers. Sift all dry ingredients together real good. Then after you have sifted it. Make a crater in the middle of the dry ingredients. Now if you want, put 1/4 cup virgin olive oil, or dried milk as some like to do. I use 1/4 cup virgin olive oil. Now you need 2 cups of really warm water. Pour these 1 cup onto the flour & oil. Mix with your hand. Then add the next 1/2 cup of very warm water in the mix. Knead the dough a few times, if it feels dry then add 1/2 cup of very warm water over the mix and knead a few more times. It should be soft and hold together. Place the dough ball on a floured counter, knead only 4 or 5 more times with both your hands. Once it is kneaded and it should be soft. Put the dough ball into the bowl you used to mix the dough. Cover it with 2 dish towels. Let it sit for 30 minutes. Then it will be ready for you to take a little bit pat it into a ball with some flour on it. Flatten with your hands. You can use a roller at this point. Roll the dough out like a pizza. Roll it out once, pick it up, roll it out again. Pick it up again and roll it completely out. I would make a few. Then turn your oil on in a pan, make sure it's heated on medium high. Now you are ready to fry the frybread. Good luck as I know you will do a great job. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

    We have these all over the place where I am. I'm collecting the blue / purple berries [seeds] and growing them from scratch. I'm going to plant them by the 100s just because it could be fun. I'm making sure to respect the fire zones and not plant them too close together. I will do more research before deciding where to plant. In the meantime I'll raise a few seedlings going inside. I'm going to do pine trees next after that. Both Juniper and Pine will thrive in my climate without any attention or regular care. I'll be the Johnny Appleseed of junipers in my little desert town. 😊🌲

    Grandma, I'm still trying to get up off the floor from being hit with a good spirit that came through you to me. I can't put it or find the words to explain how it made me feel. It was like the warmest heartfelt blessing I have ever felt. The saying is, "When you have been blessed, pass it on," and that you did. Oral history is what it's about. It's everything. It brings families together, teaches us, shares love, and keeps people together as a tribe /community. It's the very string that binds us and keeps us strong and together. Reading from a book is fine, but it's not as good as oral history, and I believe in what you said about how and where the First People came here. I feel like a light bulb all warm bright and shiny. lol Blees you Grandma You made my day

My newest nephew arrived a few months ago and my mother, who has the native blood but wasn’t raised in the culture, wants to be called grandmother in Dine by my nephew. Kiera, many here on Navajo Grandma channel have your same sad expressions. I am sad for you, but I also say, rise above it. Be the opposite, be wonderful, loving, a light to others, a loving, kind soul. Find your freedom from your past life and rejoice in that you can change the past in and thru love, kindness, goodness, serving with a happy heart. Your tears are tears of promise not sadness. You will learn this as you grow older. Your tears define your longing thus you can erase and trash the past and be wonderful. If you can recognize this you will learn, you will be loved. Your ancestors adore you, tho not here physically they pray over you, protect you, watch over their dear posterity with the tears and sad heart. But let it go. Rise above this, smile, dance, you are loved. I shall pray for you. Now go rise above the negative, smile & dance. Pray always! Hugs from Navajo Grandma

    Hi Navajo Granmother I have a question? , will red cedar work and the berries from it ? 🙏 and thank you

    • @NavajoGrandma
      @NavajoGrandma 2 дні тому

      Yes, red cedar berries, specifically from the Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana), are considered edible and can be used similarly to juniper berries, as they are botanically the same and can be used in cooking in a similar way; however, it's important to consume them in moderation as large quantities may cause digestive upset. Key points about red cedar berries and juniper berries: Botanical similarity: Both are considered "berries" from the Juniperus genus, meaning they share similar characteristics and can be used similarly in culinary applications. Flavor profile: While considered edible, some say red cedar berries have a milder flavor compared to common juniper berries, with less of a strong "turpentine" taste. Cautionary note: Though generally safe, consuming large quantities of red cedar berries may cause digestive issues, so moderation is key.

      @joshuaperez7478 Great joy to hear from you Grandma Begay. Axhehee!! Kayenta has this right but in such close proximity to the hotel & eating area. But it serves it's purpose too. I love all this just like stepping back into my childhood in Pueblo Pintado! Happy years of my childhood. Great comment! Navajo Grandma

      @NoahQuam Wow, "family!" We go there and drive thru in memory of my Paternal Grandma whom we never met. I miss the oven bread that few make anymore. Does your family still make oven bread? Great memories. Navajo Grandma

      Noah, Navajo Grandma would love to climb up on the roof and watch Zuni dances with you. I said, "just tell me when." Grandpa can't because he had a stroke. I still climb and would be honored to meet you. Just make sure we have Pueblo Bread, chili and cookies to eat while we are on the roof!!! LOL! Love you and Hugs from Navajo Grandma
