I find myself coming back to this video frequently over the last couple years and at first it was to take in every bit of information I might have missed, but now I really come back for Chad and his eloquent way in highlighting the beauty and history of each plant. He's a genuine treasure.
Mr. Husby, like Freycinetia cumingiana and the other plants you tirelessly teach us about, may you likewise 'never really age'. SRO, thank you for bringing to light some of what we are losing daily, forever, from the wild. May the work you both do touch enough hearts and minds to someday reverse this madness.
Oh, he’s very passionate with the plants. I can feel how he loves them and the plants seem to love him back. Definitely be watching this over again! 💓🍃💓🍃💓🍃
This is the Best video yet about any botanical conservatory. I think because there wasn't any conversation happening to distract from the information that is trying to be taught. I just loved every minute of the tour. Thanks again 😊
This man is SO pure. He clearly loves these plants and I could not imagine a better suited person for the job. This whole vibe is immaculate. The music, his voice, the water in the background, the environment we’re being taken through... perfect
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. The soothing music and this man’s gentle voice walking us through one of the most stunning gardens is immensely a joy to watch😌
Speechless... I can't express my own words into English. But I may say .... you are heroes. This channel Summer Rayne Oakes and The Fairchild Botanic Garden are the real hero of our Earth. Thank you very much. ----
I came into the comments to hopefully be the first one to make note of the uncanny similarities, but alas, you beat me to the punch...but that's a "happy little" incidence. 😅🎨🖼🖌🌱🌿
I have always thought ferns were my favorite. Then you show plants that are older than ferns, unobtainable to the common .Much harder to grow! And are super rare! But those are the kind I love of course. They make me happy🥀🐸
it's astonishing what this man knows about plants. And the respect and love and tenderness in the way he talks about these plants, and touches them. And the plants all look so perfect, so undamaged by insects, like if they all were planted just before the video was taken. And very beautiful landscape designed (or how to call it). By far the most beautiful garden I saw so far.
The way he handles the plant so gently is so cute. I could just listen to a podcast of him talking to fall asleep. I’ll have to pull this video up when I feel anxious.
I am REALLY enjoying this. No offense summer lol. But just his voice is so soothing, i love his energy for sure. You also get that he is super passionate and loves his job...thanks for this. visiting fairchild is def a bucket list item
This is my idea of what heaven would be. A lush tropical garden with amazing plants , soothing music and an expert to share knowledge. No angels required.
He makes this video so enjoyable and easy to watch. I didn’t want it to end. What a soothing soul and describes the plants so eloquently and makes you fall in love with each one.
I think I have watched this at least 15 times. I've learned a lot, but mostly I watch for this man's beautiful gentle energy, and the perfection of the plants and the music. Perfection 💚
What an amazing video/tour. I've been an interior landscaper for 35 years. You become complacent when working with plant after plant every day. This video has reignited my love for plants, which is why I'm in this industry in the first place. Am sharing this with my colleagues. 😍😍😍🌿🌿🌿
Nice to see the return of Chad, who I once met when I visited Montgomery Center. Fairchild is always a favorite place for me, and is a natural travel stop between my Caribbean roots and my home in London. Thank you. 👍👍👍👍
Although the plants are supposed to be the star of this video, I think we can all agreed it's Chad! His knowledge, demeanor, enthusiasm, and cadence.... What a human!
I've been a horticulturalist for over 10 years and this blew me away completely, Ive been to gardens all over Europe, Asia, here in Australia and I have to say this is AMAZING. i have to go there before i die.
This video is so beautiful. I'm from Puerto Rico and I was really touched by the community's solidarity and work to save plants from exticntion. Just amazing.
Wow! What a gift this video is, thank you so much. When I look at all these beautiful incredible amazing plants all that comes to mind is…From God, With Love ❤️
Mr. Husby has such a calming voice and spirit, plus deep knowledge and love of plants, it's truly inspiring. I grew so calm while watching this video, it truly was a meditative experience.
If she is summer rain oaks then Chad is spring mist ferns. This was so calming, way better than i thought it would be. Super interesting and well made.
I'm crazy about botanical illustration, yet I still didn't know about Margaret Mee. Her story with the moonflower has touched me profoundly, she is my new heroine! Synchronizing herself with nature's rhythm, attempt after attempt until finally witnessing the moonflower and showing it to the world for the very first time. What a demonstration of perseverance, humility, true respect, and devotion!
What a relaxing man to listen to. You can see how much he cares about plants by the way he handles them so gently. Some great information and snippets of the life story and how they have come to have the plant in their collection. Thankyou for taking us along Summer on this tour.
Absolutely love the story about the Solanum that was saved from extinction by a grad student taking cuttings! Don’t wait, propagate! 🌱🌱 This is why I greatly appreciate the work done at botanic gardens and by botanists/horticulturists and even us home growers 💚 Nature is uniquely precious. Also, I’d move to Florida in a heartbeat to work at Fairchild 🌼 The Ghost Orchid is simply haunting, always wanted to see one 😍 This was a beautiful episode!
This video is now one of my all time favorites. He was so peaceful, knowledgeable, and passionate. This garden is absolutely beautiful as well. Definitely a video I’ll be rewatching.
It is good to see that the Rare Plant area us alive and well. In 1992 right after Hurricane Andrew hit, I manuevered my motorcycle in between the downed Banyan trees lining Old Cutler road and volunteered in helping run cables across the previous roof of the Rare Plant Area to protect the then exposed from full sun. Good memories.
"we can do much more together than we can individually" reminds me of a similar quote: "we are all the superhero, none of us individually, but all of us together" - Hank Green
"We can do much more together than we can individually" Love that statement Also, could you maybe do a video featuring only Selaginella, maybe also Huperzia, etc? An in depth video on these plants would be so great. Lycopodiopsida are pretty much my favorite class of plants.
I love this episode so much! But I have to keep rewatching it because I always end up falling asleep from the music and ambience haha. True night time botany ❤
This is so gorgeous. He reminds me of my 'grandpa'. We're not related by blood, but he was a close family friend with the sweetest soul ever. When I visited his home in Japan at 10 years old, he showed me this tranquil little greenhouse he and his wife set up when they first got married. It immediately felt like home. It was filled in every corner with all sorts of tropical plants you could find in Southeast Asia, hanging plants scraping my face gently as I walked through exploring every interesting leaf I could find. He broke off a leaf from his alocasia and gave it to me to press in a book. A month after we got home, we were informed that he passed away after an accident while climbing the Japanese Alps. I don't exactly remember how I reacted since then, but I found that leaf, beautifully preserved, three years ago today. I've been collecting plants since then. As an under-20 year old plant lady from the Philippines, this is my dream. To curate a beautiful greenhouse, protecting endemic and rare flora and fauna and spend most of my life exploring and educating others about the importance of preserving forests in the country. Right now I'm working towards a degree in social studies as a compromise with my parents, but hopefully I get to use this as a tool to start advocacy work with the people who have just as much passion for plants and nature. I always get told I'm such a 'grandma' for having so many plants, but I like to think it has made me a better person, much like all of the other plant folks here 😊 getting an alocasia sanderiana in a few days, maybe I'll name him after my ojiisan?
I'm Kyla from Philippines too and another young plant lady, I'm 20. Nice to meet you in this channel! Hope to collab with you someday! I'm working on my degree in Biology, skl.
Chad, thank you for sharing your knowledge and gift of plant storytelling. You’re a natural at this and I hope you’re giving many in-person tours to those visiting. And Summer, as always thank you deeply for the work and effort you put into creating these videos. You provide for many of us a window into a world we would otherwise never get to see, as people who love plants and have them in our homes, but don’t necessarily have a profession in botany/horticulture and access to these networks. A private tour of such a fantastic place, alongside a true expert whom I would otherwise never get a chance to hear from. It’s just magical. 🙏 💗
Very interesting. Thank you for the most excellent narration. I particularly loved the story of the shrub/tree that is saved from extinction due to botanical gardens conservation practices. Thanks Summer for sharing this.
I think I just found the most relaxing and informative video on UA-cam. I clicked this video so that I could have it in the background while doing chores but I was honestly glued to the tv and watched the whole thing. This guy is so gentle and brilliant when it comes to plants, it was honestly a little heartwarming to hear him talking so passionately about them all. As someone who has always loved plants this was right down my alley.
This is the second time I watching this. First time was to find plants that looked good. A year later and I am watching to learn more about the plants.😍. You can tell from the calm passion he loves and enjoyed himself.
"There are many ways to be a plant."
This guy has so many beautiful quotes, after watching this, I want to be a plant.
I find myself coming back to this video frequently over the last couple years and at first it was to take in every bit of information I might have missed, but now I really come back for Chad and his eloquent way in highlighting the beauty and history of each plant. He's a genuine treasure.

"Plant explorer" that's a dream job right there. Travelling the world in search of plants.❤
this man could spend hours explaining every plant and each moment would fill my soul with warmth
Oh, he’s very passionate with the plants. I can feel how he loves them and the plants seem to love him back. Definitely be watching this over again! 💓🍃💓🍃💓🍃

Such videos prove that nature is above everything
I love this guy! He is the Mr. Rogers of the plant kingdom. 😁💚💚💚🤗
This is the 3rd time im trying to watch this video but with the sound of running water, background sound and his voice is making me fall asleep lol
For some crazy reason...this makes me emotional. To see the beauty of our planet...makes me emotional.
Who’s else was blown away by these plants?
This guys voice and expertise is sort of hypnotic. Really interesting.
This is way too many beauty what a blessed and beautiful soul this gentleman is to be guardian of this magical place!
I love the way he just barely touches the leaves, so gentle and respectful.
The beauty of these plants and Chad’s gentle brilliance has moved me to tears. Thank you for sharing this!
can you please do another one off these? This must be the most relaxed, comprehensive and fluent person in the plantworld.
This guy is the Botanical Bob Ross
He plants happy little trees
I came into the comments to hopefully be the first one to make note of the uncanny similarities, but alas, you beat me to the punch...but that's a "happy little" incidence. 😅🎨🖼🖌🌱🌿

Thank you for making this. And letting these humble voices be heard. Im in tears of awe at the beauty of our green earth.
I LOVE THIS GUY. Please, Summer. Keep making videos with him. He's a treasure.
Chad has such a calming, soothing voice. I love how passionate he is about his job, you can tell how much he loves it. What a guy!!
I also feel that. Without love no one can do this.
maximum irony would be if his wife is as calm as him and is named Karen. :3

The story behind the plants make them so much more interesting.
A non-talkative plant video like this is even more rare as many of the species shown. Very pleasant and subtle background music.
Absolutely love the story about the Solanum that was saved from extinction by a grad student taking cuttings! Don’t wait, propagate! 🌱🌱

This video is now one of my all time favorites. He was so peaceful, knowledgeable, and passionate. This garden is absolutely beautiful as well. Definitely a video I’ll be rewatching.

I'm taking a mental health day from work and this really helped.
I'm so glad it did. :)
I didn't know someone could take a mental heath day off from work, I should have been doing that for years
Is this a official thing? “A mental health day”?
Or just a regular day off.
Wow so beautiful plants dear friend thanks for sharing 👍👌🤗🤗🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
