You have done a fantastic job man! I have been following along since the beginning and super impressed! I predict enormous things for you and your life ahead! Wish you all the best.
Yeah for sure. Once he gets it dialed and finishes the body he's gonna blow up on youtube. Everyones gonna wanna get in on the story of the guy who built a 1 off custom supercar on a shoestring budget!
Enormous times and enormously high number finishes. 400th place at the least. Larger is better right?! I predict he's going to enjoy this car and life ahead. A meaningful life is a successful life.
yessssss! I have been waiting for this for so long, I'm hyped for you dude. You'll get this car dialed on the track soon (or next season maybe when it warms up), I'm sure of it
Amazing! I'd call that a huge success for a first drive in difficult conditions. Nothing major went wrong with the car and you didn't crash it (just a little spin or two).
you should do a track day with Rob Dahm! yall are the only two people on youtube that have insane from-scratch builds on youtube right now & I love both of the builds hella
@@philanaemic you know, I just watched that video like right after this one and it is sooo dope. they should come too & bring the single rotor car too!
Tough luck on the weather, but you will get there in short time. It's such a joy to see you driving around in it after all the work. Thank you, it's an awesome ride!
Thanks for showing us how to get track data. It is always fun to watch everyone else's Hooning videos, but it is so much more interesting to learn from all these car videos. Greatly appreciate your videos.
You should be proud of yourself, super talented to build this car from scratch and bring it all the way to Willow Springs, and we appreciate you documenting all of this journey!
Congrats. Really looking forward to future updates. In my home race track, Wakefield park in Australia, officials are pretty relaxed. I get to drive like a maniac without getting in trouble...yet.
Hoonigans burn yard!?! Dope, congrats on the track time, this is definitely one of my favorite builds on UA-cam rn. Stoked to see the leguna seca footy
Since it was a trackday, i would say a simple inspection like: 1-good harness anchor point and harness condition itself 2-fixed seat mount/rail bracket 3-no visible oil leak on engine and drivetrain (at some trackday will require you to have a certain minimum capacity of oil catch tank installed) 4- no loose part/panel hanging around that have potential to fly away at speed... And i think thats enough to cover the basi of safety/tech inspection of any vehicle took part in trackday
Lol most people don't even know it's homemade. With all the radicals and ariel atoms out there, they think it's the same type of deal. It meets all the safety requirements so tech doesn't give any trouble.
There is like 5 days of rain a year at willow.....somehow you managed to get one of those days.....that is so disappointing as I would think that track is made for a car like yours.... very fast flowing and would allow you to really stretch the cars legs out..... good job keeping the car on track... Hope you come back to CA again for more track time....
I must say that I am very impressed. You know what you are doing. I like your front DWF solution. With a slotted front section, you will be able to extract more DWF, as with such a high AoA, there should be separation there. I like your cooling solutions. You went very aggressive with the front rad, which I absolutely love. Its not only good for aero but it also uses the rad as an effective crash structure. I like the positioning of the intercoolers. Tight, yet effective. The only part which makes me slightly sad is the rear diffuser. You have the space to go much more aggressive without fears of separation. As a stopgap solution to help with high speed oversteer, I would simply cut rectangular sections on the diffuser, and create a rudimentary double diffuser. It won't take too much time but it will drastically increase the pressure delta. Since you have enough power to play with, just "go crazy" at it. Use VGs to attach flow wherever needed. Slot the strakes to minimize tire squirt. You can afford the drag. You went conservative on safety (which is always imperative). The chassis seems to have good stiffness. Overall, It is a beautiful, well thought, well processed project. My sincere compliments!
Way to go, keeping a good attitude and pressing on in the face of frustrations and overprotective corner workers. It looks like it has enough power to keep your adrenaline pumping. Keep doing what you're doing, you'll get there!!
this is so awesome and more videos to come:) It looks like you still have lots of travel in the shock and the rod end isn't coming close to binding in the clevis mount so it's all good :)
While known as the "fastest road in the west" we only get up to about 230kph at big willow and 250kph at Auto Club Speedway due to lack of significant aero on our track 'stang . Also, i don't understand the black flag, you weren't doing anything wrong. Was there a car closely trailing you while you were stepping it out? We get loose on corners all the time without flags.
to manoeuver a trailer one usually uses a "jockey wheel", which attaches near the hitch - esp. with a 4 wheeler, one needs to lift the 2 front wheels up to be able to turn...
Kudos on getting this far man, you're always going get teething problems like this but keep pushing. And you can never control the weather. On the other hand though, wow the surface at Willow Springs looks terrible!
It's obvious you're much smarter than I am, but @ 1:55 I would have stuck that floor jack under the trailer tongue to move it. Congrats! So happy you got some laps in, even if they were wet laps.
It is so good to see the car on a track finally,. Aside from the fact that rain stopped you from pushing the car did you get the feeling that your design is working as you planned? How do you think it would have been if you had a rear wing as per your drawing of the car?
You need to go to Chuckwalla out towards the Palm Springs area, weather is much, much nicer there than the high deserts of Willow Springs. Also the track surface at Chuckwalla is much better than both Willow Springs and Buttonwillow.
Of note, in the wet and the car being so unstable: With that aggressive front splitter (the large cutouts) and no rear wing, the aero bias is forward. (despite having the diffuser). The front tires are the fulcrum, and thus lifts the rear wheels. The wet (and low grip) conditions seemed to highlight this.
Love the vids I've been following since you started tracking the actual full bodied. Glad to see its paying off in positive ways. Cant wait too see it dialed in and with it's full areo in place. Any possibility of a full inclosed carbon body or will it always be open cockpit?
I'd like to see a set of wheels mounted with a street tire like pilot sports or something. Slicks are a wild ride and, as you've seen, kind of a one trick pony for dry/warm
Canadians come to California and find it to be too cold lolol If the biggest complaint during your shakedown trackday was the weather, then you did a damn good job.
Too bad about your luck on the trip so far. Considering the issues arising, and the fact this car was built from scratch... I’d say your still doing pretty good! I must say though, for Ontario boys... you both sure sound like prairie boys (the accent that is)!
3:56 I just noticed the trailer hitch adapter from 1 1/4 to 2" That adapter is only to be used for bike racks / rear cargo trays and even then the weight rating needs to be reduced by 50 %. Our guy is getting away with this in the short term only because the towed load is on the lower side. Try this with a regular car on the trailer and the hitch might break off due to fatigue. Also, the extended length is one reason why the rear of the car is sagging.
Hey, I just noticed you have air filters with metal caps in the center. You should look at what happens to them on a turbo. The glue used gets softer from heat cycles and the turbo will suck the cap off into the impeller killing the turbos.
Who are you? What country do you live in? I’m blown away by what you’ve done here. I’m building a drag car now. And I have basically built an all new chassis inside the car. I want to drive it too. After watching all these videos? I’m building one of these next!
Your insurance won't cover it if your trailer gets stolen when it's disconnected from your car... Just a heads up
Dont park your trailer without the car attached someone's gonna steal it
100% this....why would you do that anyway? just take up 2 spots...
could you even insure a car like this?
@@samhaley1764 You could probably insurance anything for the right price.

How did the safety inspection go? Are they leary of allowing a completely homemade car on the track?
