Kinds of Kindness is A LOT | Movie Review

- Опубліковано 6 сер 2024
- Yorgos Lanthimos has a brand new movie called Kinds of Kindness, and this hits theaters wide this weekend. This is my review and reaction of this anthology film. A triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader. Do you need this one explained?
Cast: Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer

Yorgos Lanthimos
It really worked for me. I rhink every story works on a thrmatic level. The two first stories are about different problems that can emerge in a relationship, and the third one is about trying to save those relationships no matter what. I agree the whole thing is a little messy, but I don't really think it's a flaw because it's a controled mess. But I can totally understand why someone would not like this.
53? I'm disapointed. Your rating is usually really good.
This movie is a really good surreal nihilist movie. I loved specially 1st and 3rd story.
I agree, the 3rd one is great. Coming out of the cinema, my least favourite was part 2 even if it was the more graphic one, then i saw an italian rewiever explaining the second part and now I love it. I think most people get confused because it follows the perspective of the policeman and not the one of his wife, our empathy tricks us in trusting the ones we know more . But SPOILER: she is messed up and PREGNANT.
I absolutely loved this movie as big Yorgos Fan
Man, Lanthimos is on a role. Lanthimos' next film, 'Bugonia', is set for release in 2025.
Was super engaged in this. Found it compelling and fascinating. The thematic connections of love and abuse is just so effective
It's pure unadulterated Yorgos and it absolutely works for me, 53 hurts my soul and heart Austin 😭
With me being a huge Yorgos fan, I absolutely loved this movie. It became my favorite movie of 2024 so far
Another fantastic video! Thank you Austin!
This is a great film in my opinion. It’s bold, unapologetic, and a total trip.
I know reviews have been mixed but I can’t wait to see it!!!!
I feel that!
Apparently Stone and Plemens are filming another one right now lol😊
Yes the first was the best for sure, I did not know going in that it was 3 separate movies so that was a shock. I wish the whole movie followed the premise of that first section. The second story was my least favourite, just felt shocking for the sake of being shocking especially the end credits, the third was ok and the ending was darkly very funny but just like the outcome of the ending the whole thing felt rather pointless for me. 5/10. For context I rank his other Films as follows The Favourite 7/10, The Killing of the Sacred Deer 8/10, The Lobster 8.5/10, and Poor Things 10/10 (I haven’t seen dogtooth yet)
The second one was the weakest in my opinion (1st being best, and I enjoyed the 3rd too), but I did enjoy it. I have been trying to get a better understanding of the film, but there are still some things I haven't pieced together. The dogs thing I feel like had some deeper meaning, dog tags were a common thing in the second one with all the other talk of dogs, island being run by dogs, etc. A dog also was important in the third film, not sure if related in anyway.
There was also a dream in all 3 of the stories. Why dreams were chosen to be in all 3 I'm not sure.
Wow. I loved these stories. I can't believe you rated it so low. I hope you didn't miss the subtext running through each story. Fair enough if you didn't and still didn't like it.
No I definitely get the themes and reoccurring ideas! But the actual plot of each one barring the first just didn’t engage me at all. It’s cool though.
@@AustinBurke Fair enough. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I do have a strange bias toward weird short stories!
No I love it! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts my friend
Is this better than Poor Things? And as someone who wasn’t absolutely huge on Poor Things, do you think this one’s a bit more… digestible?
Well I’ve heard from people that this is more in line with his earlier work like Dogtooth and The Lobster, so I’m taking it as a no. 😂
Less digestible to me, but I loved Poor Things
Much, much stranger than Poor Things.
I personally prefered it to Poor Things, but if you're issue is the digestibility, I don't think you're gonna like it.
According to Austin's review, he didn't like this as much as Poor Things and this is way less digestible.
I think the scene where one of the characters gets drugged and sexually assaulted was a bit much especially by showing thrusting. I get what he’s going for by making you feel the horror of what the character must’ve gone through but personally I just thought it was done in poor taste.
Yep. Most of the reviews are saying that the first episode is the strongest, & that the third one is the weakest. I think I’m seeing it next weekend…I’m thinking about maybe leaving the theater when the third episode starts. 🤔🤔🤔💯
I guess you can say you weren’t too *kind* to Kinds of Kindness… I’ll leave…
Lol
Great movie!
This movie isn’t playing anywhere near me unfortunately
Too Much Kindness is Powerful
From a filmmaking standpoint, Kinds of Kindness was phenomenal. However, I personally found this movie to be too weird for me, so I'm giving it a 5/10.
Too much kindness
Feel like I’m losing it cuz man was this movie boring and annoying
RMF
As a fan of Poor Things this was a massive disappointment in so many ways
you must not be familiar with lanthimos, poor things is the most mainstream of his movies, this is a return to his roots
Why not just make 3 different movies?
This review could take 5 minutes instead of 10, too much water
If you want simple reviews, find simple reviewers 🤷🏻♂️
@@AustinBurke Well I wanted a good review, and there were no to little good info here. It could be shortened to a few minutes for sure. It’s a simple and BAD review. The one by the Cortex Videos is so much better, I’m happy I found it
This is a review… Not an explanation video. If you need someone to explain things to you, either go to school and get an education, or find a channel that does that. I’m glad you found one! 💪🏻
@@AustinBurke lol dude you are so rude and passive aggressive! you should go to school and learn how to accept criticism. I don’t even know why somebody would want to watch review by a person who have no tangible thoughts and opinion on a film
i kinda love what yorgos is doing rn but these movies make me sick
My face was hurting after Poor Things because of all my cringing 💀
If this is anything like the orgy fest Poor Things was I don’t think I’ll watch it
hope it's better than poor things
movie was shit
