Theres multiple ways to skin a cat. This method seems very controlled for a shop environment, and as others have suggested a different approach might be more efficient in the field. Either way the right tools make a difficult job go smoother regardless of a shop or not

You can do it yourself. Look at your track chains And find the link. Take off 2 or 3 grousers. And beat the living snot out of it with hammers and bull pins. Don't forget to release the grease so the idler comes back. Order a new pin cause more than likely you will destroy you getting it out. After performing whatever repair you need to take the track off use a chain come along to pull it back together and re drive-in the pin with a sledgehammer. It's not easy but it's not exactly hard.

This pin press seems unnecessarily enormous. Caterpillar makes one that is much more compact.
This tool is great for the field service tech, you just have to hire 2 more guys each time you use it !!!!!

I have seen guys just use a drift and a heavy hammer to drive out the pin. One guy.
