Masterclass! This is how a high-caliber publishing company promotes a TTRPG via live play. Other publishers of note need to watch this series and learn from it like a textbook.
Seems like. But it really boils down to detective stories being hard to follow if their isn't a direct point to point. Movies and novels do a good job, the pace is difficult to manage when your players are running 1 to 11 most of the time.
This is why I like Trail Of Cthulhu / Gumshoe better. Seems to be better for actually following a plot and making sure the players get the relevant clues.
I just finished the all episodes and then I realized that I did not say "Thank you". That group is from head to toe mind blowing. The roleplaying, storytelling, the props and the NPCs. That is roleplaying at its finest. I love it. Thanks to you all. Greetings from Hamburg, Germany
Saige is everywhere in this space and I'm here for it. Love the cast and getting to see Mark as a GM/Keeper. (I particularly love the spooky musical cues and slow close-ups with Judith.)
I absolutely love the shared storytelling. When reading the overlooked letter, players go from cursory examination to summation to reading verbatim... at which point the GM steps in to narrate the letter for the group. At the end, when Saige's voice begins reading the final part of the letter... fantastic! Draws you right back into the immersion with the characters in the moment.
Seeing Carlos Luna in another Actual Play is something that convinced me to give this a watch, but the Keeper, players, and entire production got me entirely hooked! I can't wait for more episodes
Stumbled upon this and really enjoy it. The cast of characters is an interesting mix, Mr. Meer runs the show with aplomb, beautifully immersive set and costumes, and great editing made the story appear to flow very organically. This reminded me of when I was a young child and listened to radio dramas (yes, I'm ancient). I'll be recommending this to friends.
@@LordGrokken Thee Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program is literally this (including old timey ads). Only about 10 hrs of content, but very well done in terms of style

@@REELNIGHTMARES.mp4 this is such a fantastic performance, loads of thanks, you all did an amazing job. I'm definitely going to catch up on the rest of these. [el'sda2].
This is amazing and so entertaining. Great cast of players and great GM! Looking forward to more. However, as there are a lot of new people exploring other RPG options these days--as well as people looking to get started as new players and GMs in the first place--I want to mention something extremely important: these are professional performers giving us an entertaining and highly polished production. This is NOT what a typical RPG session looks like when you gather around your friend's table. You DON'T have to do voices. You DON'T have to dress up. You DON'T have to deliver each line with effortless precision. You DON'T even have to "perform" in character. All you have to do in an RPG is have fun and make sure you don't ruin everyone else's fun. Watch this series, and other series of similar production (Critical Role, etc.) as the stylized and entertaining productions that they are. But do NOT get intimidated by these performances and think that this is how you *must* roleplay.
The most intimidating thing about Actual Plays to me is the vocal minority of audience members hating on roleplay choices, claiming the GM is going too easy on the players, or harshly criticizing the cast for messing up their abilities or getting the math wrong. Oh, and of course ruining the game by being "too woke." Basically everyone yelling, "THEIR FUN IS WRONG! SO SO WRONG! ANYONE WHO LIKES THIS IS A [redacted]!" That always makes me think, "Welp, there speaks a representative from yet another table I won't ever want to play at. Good to know." And I become slightly more cautious about approaching new groups in the future. Thankfully, _most_ fellow fans of these shows tend to be pretty nice. :)
Indeed, and also realise the DM won't be as experienced as some of these, its also not edited, so you might have to wait 20 seconds while the DM does mental math or has to scroll 20 pages in the lore document they passionately wrote.
Good observations. I totally agree. Don't think you can't do Call of Cthulhu, or any RPG, because you don't have the resources we had. But I'd also say that when you're playing and immersed in the characters and story, this is what it feels like :)
@@TimpanistMoth_AyKayEll The vast majority of ttrpg players aren't that wound up about anything, so you probably won't have an experience like that. The internet does things to people, you know

As longtime DM jumping over from D&D after the whole “debacle” I found this very helpful. I have never been a Keeper and it is a different enough of a TTRP that I felt I needed guidance before we dive in.
I’m new to TTRPGs (I’ve always wanted to get into it but never knew anyone else who played), but I’ve always wanted to find a group to play with. How is being a Keeper different from a DM in DnD? Other than the thematic differences in the storyline, I mean. How do the roles differ?
@@Laura_5757 In my experience not by much. I would say the Keeper for CoC has far more game mechanics to probably look after rather than a DM for D&D but the principle of the role is similar. And it is a lot but it is something that is adapted to and learned as you go along and play. In regards to Call of Cthulhu, Seth Skorkowsky is a good UA-camr to watch. This was really well done. I heard of Chaosium from some TTRPG's run over on the Glass Cannon Network, and was glad I did. I thought this was well produced, well acted and played. And just goes to show you, as good as your character may be, the dice can always screw you. The joy of TTRPG. Great work team, keep it up. Now for Ep. 2
Ok, I'm loving this. I'm having to watch it in chunks since getting time to watch it is hard right now. Such a great cast and great roleplaying by everyone so far, though I'm not all that far in. Loving all the people talking about Commander Shepard. Did anyone know he also voiced Will McKenzie in the Hinterland game The Long Dark? Fabulous work there by Mark. Epic series, can't wait to finish it!
THIS IS A HELLLLLLLL OF A CAST! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and I would SACRIFICE myself to see this group together again. Truly a magical experience.
This is heavenly. How had I not come across it sooner? This is a very engaging experience with all the "game" stuff pointed out and shown on the screen when it is relevant and then a seamless transition to actual acting. I generally do not enjoy heavily acted out TTRPG streams but this one did something right! Keep it going!
I think the only thing that would improve the quality of this show, in my opinion, would be if there was an actual representation of the dice rolls on screen. As far as I could tell, the animated dice don't seem to match the actual player rolls. I don't know how much work it would be, but seeing the animated rolls give out the actual results would have more impact, as rolling dice usually adds tension and anticipation to games.
This is really good. Props to the DM, I liked how he went out of his way not to critique the players even though they were critiquing themselves, and tried to spin things in an encouraging sort of way. Great video!
What is harder to fight: A) An ancient being born from the most unspeakable nightmares. B) An underpaid guard. The responde may surprise You! P.S. Loved this episode so much! Hope this series last a good chunk! 🦑
I love this! The players and Keeper are really engaging. And the production value is superb, not only the sets and costumes, but also the editing, cuts to the images and Roll20 visuals and rolls. I think I saw William Powell as the pic of the auctioneer! This is such a great live play! They did a great job keeping the game moving. I also play Call of Cthulhu and know regular games are not like this, but the polish they added to the experience only emphasized what a great game it is and how much enjoyment we can have if we throw ourselves in unreservedly! Well done!
DAMN Again! I decided to edit the comment because DAMN!!! The whole cast is awesome! Damn... Patrick Logan deserves huge credit on the roleplay of Mickey! What a performance! He suits the build like a glove as well! Congratulations!
Excellent. Up there with the best live plays I've seen and absolutely hilarious when no one could hit a roll to save their life while dealing with the guard. Can't wait to watch the next. (If only UA-cam would stop interrupting with commercials every five minutes...)
While it was a slow start, the show really fell into a good stride at about 20 min in. It was going so well I took a look at your channel’s view history and became puzzled you had such low numbers. Continue with campaigns like this and you’ll grow your audience I think. So much work and love went into this project and the professionalism with which the party members and GM took this really shows!
Absolutely fantastic! Super high production with the set, costumes, lighting - great to see some of my favourite role players / actors and to meet new players - this is like a radio play brought to camera and in the CoC mythos! Wonderful, fluid improv. I can't wait for what's next

Found this story Sunday morning with my wife. Enjoyed it because I got to see the first episode of something new. My asked me "isn't he Nelly G sire" and this time I didn't think she followed that close. Lol.
Chaosium Inc needs to keep these going. These actors have sold me on their system. I, like so many other Game Masters, have heard of Call of Cthulhu and HP Lovecraft but largely know nothing about it. I never even read his literary work. After watching this series I went out and purchased both slipcover cases as well as the Grimore and Cards to go with the set. This show sent me to your web page and got me purchased every rule book that you had. This show has also gotten me connected with numerous podcasts including HP Podcraft and Cthulore. I look forward to running "the Haunting" with my gaming group. Please continue these types of series; I think they are so important for gamers not only interested in Call of Cthulhu but other Role-playing table top games.

I love how coming back in the morning was never an option for these folks. As they say, "Well, that escalated quickly."
30 seconds in and I already feel addicted. Fantastic production values so far.
The critical role of Call of Cthulhu! Please do another series like this!
What an extraordinarily well produced show this is. Meer and all of the cast were excellent.
Great point!!!!
What is harder to fight:
A) An ancient being born from the most unspeakable nightmares.
B) An underpaid guard.
The responde may surprise You!
P.S. Loved this episode so much! Hope this series last a good chunk! 🦑
With the doctor. Wow. That was so good. Incidentally, the players pulled their pieces at the exact moment I would have
Fantastic performances and production. Delighted this found me
You had me hooked at Mark Meer
I love this! The players and Keeper are really engaging. And the production value is superb, not only the sets and costumes, but also the editing, cuts to the images and Roll20 visuals and rolls. I think I saw William Powell as the pic of the auctioneer! This is such a great live play! They did a great job keeping the game moving. I also play Call of Cthulhu and know regular games are not like this, but the polish they added to the experience only emphasized what a great game it is and how much enjoyment we can have if we throw ourselves in unreservedly! Well done!
"Let's cut his clothes off! Wait...I'm supposed to wear them? What?" Comedy gold.
I just watched most of this series and it's freaking amazing, more of this please!!
I absolutely loved this so much. Everyone involved did such a great job, and there were so many instances of PERFECT comedic timing. Kudos to you all!
The way I love these four interacting with each other. I love these characters so much and I really might cry if they don’t all make it.
Commander Sheppard: This is Command Sheppard and this is my favorite bookshop in the Citadel.
DAMN Again! I decided to edit the comment because DAMN!!! The whole cast is awesome!
Damn... Patrick Logan deserves huge credit on the roleplay of Mickey! What a performance! He suits the build like a glove as well! Congratulations!
Oh my god the production value is FANTASTIC guys, congrats to everybody!
Excellent. Up there with the best live plays I've seen and absolutely hilarious when no one could hit a roll to save their life while dealing with the guard. Can't wait to watch the next. (If only UA-cam would stop interrupting with commercials every five minutes...)
This is soooo incredibly well produced. I'd love to see more and more like this is every Chaosium setting.
congrats to the whole team that made this happen, it was fun 🥰
I am in love with the production value here. This is very easy to follow even not knowing about how the game works.
This is damned near the best tt session i've seen yet. Keep this up because I am all in!
Mickey is such a vibe lmao, and lucia looks breathtaking
Enjoying this series? Our Kickstarter for the next instalment GRAVEYARDS OF ARKHAM is live.
And, for supporting us in this Kickstarter campaign, we've put together a whole lot of eldritch surprises as backer rewards!
www.kickstarter.com/projects/chaosium/graveyards-of-arkham?ref=t2c39p!
I’ve always wanted to get into CoC and have looked for actual play videos but been disappointed. This is fantastic and I really enjoy all of the characters and acting going on. The added addition of special NPCs is a really nice touch. Subscribed and already up to episode 3!
so glad youtube suggested this to me today; can never have enough actual play.
It's awesome to see Carlos still playing TTRPG games. I miss the old MTG Ravnica stream he was apart of. Bummer korbel got canceled. He was a good GM. Carlos waa always a highlight of that show.
Wow they are incredible. I’ve seen a few theatric live plays but this is the first one that really keeps me hooked
Damn, been wanting to try out Call of Cthulhu with my group for a minute. This has cemented my desire.
For the first time in a Chaosium campaign. Charming DM, great players, great work, a rare D&D gem! New fan from Germany confirmed. 👏
Eyyyyy it's Carlos Luna!
This popped up on my front page and I've kind of been looking for a CoC playthrough so here I am. Looking forward to seeing how everything developes.
Everything other than the eggs of course.
this is first time for me that i am seeing rp like this and this was so much fun to watch. it is really fun and intresing. love enrgy and storytelling. I also love setting. Hopefully there is more things like this
Found this story Sunday morning with my wife. Enjoyed it because I got to see the first episode of something new. My asked me "isn't he Nelly G sire" and this time I didn't think she followed that close. Lol.
I never saw anything from Mark but he is pretty awesome.
Thank you great algorithm for bringing me this master piece
Great to hear Bookshops made such a great impression. Good luck with 'The Haunting', it's a doozy.
Amazing performance, all of you. I will be follow this series with much interest.
Wow, I usually don't get into pnp let's plays but this grabbed me from the first second. Amazing production!
late to this, but "egg salad is just eggs and eggs" + spooky musical cue is great
This is very good. The egg salad sandwich bit really cracked me up.
