love that the grizzled gangster took one look at the strange woman staring at egg mayo salad and went "yep. i protect her now." 😂 strangely wholesome in this sea of horror.
@eldereyeent: In how many sessions was this played? At the end of ep. 2, Mark says "this concludes our 3rd session". Also: How many days of shooting? Great work! ❤
No one’s talking about 52:15?! Neal, observing Ray: oof uh, looks like suffocation… Saige, whispers: **no breathing** Carlos gently clutches Saige’s hand 😂
Not only is this top shelf writing, the Players and the Keeper are are in the pocket. Such a satisfying journey into mind-bending horror. Amazing how props and costumes really immerse you into the story. This is how I imagined it was when I played 5th edition back in the mid 90s. Bravo to Chaosium for preserving this treasure for the 21st century.
The keeper is the kindest keeper I’ve ever witnessed. I can’t believe none of these characters are dead yet. It’s still fun and I laughed out loud when one of the players said, “I know it’s not an attack when you ask me to roll, but it feels like one.”
When you are running a game for entertainment purposes sometimes you have to be kind to keep things moving along. It wouldn't do to wipe the party in the first episode due to their incredibly bad run of luck.
I think Call of Cthulhu often benefits from a 'kind' keeper due to the nature of the system and the nature of the storytelling. It can be prone to egregiously difficult encounters and punishing skill fails, and players can sometimes get stuck trying to figure out what to do next if the keeper doesn't help or nudge the players occasionally.
The call for a sneak check, hilariously botched by a kicked, and full, bed pan when there was no one to catch them was a master stroke. It ratcheted up the tension as investigators always feel like they are about to be caught. Well played!
My only regret is that I discovered this incredible series so early. I anxiously await the next episode! Well done to everyone who worked on this. If it doesn't blow up, I don't believe in the algorithm.
This is the best actual play rpg I have seen or listened to in any rpg format. Hopefully setting a new standard for the future of actual play rpg entertainment. One of the best GMs/keepers I have seen, and all the players are amazing. Thank you for a brilliant show.
We appreciate your praise and what we at @eldereyeent are striving for in all of our upcoming actual plays. We were very privileged to work along side Chaosium and Roll20 to bring Tentacular Spectacular story to life. The Cast and Crew all did an amazing job to bring this vision to fruition.
i watch these and it makes me think i want to play this.. ive tried and it never works out and isnt half as interesting so i basically learned that watching these is the only way i enjoy this game.. ive literally never played with anyone.. ive tried and people dont join so its virtually impossible..
@@reginaldforthright805 it is a nod to another game Tentacular Spectacular ran. TS is Belinda, Mark and Darren's writing company, and they are who wrote this module for the show.

@@MountainlandPublishsame I hope they publish it. I wonder if it's just that good because of the awesome Keeper (and players) but I feel like the mechanics are also top notch. Love it so much.
The quality of this production is just through the roof! The live actor playing the mad bookbinder, the props offered to the players... 👏 👌. Also love how the Keeper goes with the players suggestions to make the experience even more enjoyable. Narration done right!❤
The transition from subdued unease to visceral horror was extremely well done, and reminded me so much of the scene in Jacob's Ladder where Jacob is being wheeled deeper into the hospital. I'm almost convinced it was deliberate.
Of course the first one ended just when things were getting good. Eager to see the rest. Mark reminds me of Mercer a wee bit. "We have a naked man in our trunk." What a sentence. XD Such incredible props. :o
That bit around 1.54, where the recipe is read and we only see the listeners wincing and looking suddenly grave. A touch of Unaussprechlichen Kuchen :)
I love how the keeper is so good in building up the tension that the players don't even think of laughing about the ridiculousness of this. It's not bad if a keeper is not that good at it but it's a completely different atmosphere
As someone who has always wanted to play these sorts of RPG's and doesn't have any friends who are interested in them, this series makes my day. So much fun to listen to and watch.
I've seen playthroughs of CoC before, but they have all been one-shots. This is a breath of fresh air for people like me who like to tell a longer, high-stakes story with different types of encounters. Thanks for showing people what is possible. Everyone did an awesome job with this. Hope to see more playthroughs like this down the line.
Thank you Yt algorithm, this is to good, I'm awfully addicted. Thanks to the Keeper and the players and probably there's more people in the background for writing the story and editing. It's just an amazing job!
I am absolutely gripped. I've wanted to play a Call of Cthulhu game, or more paranormal dark fantasy games for a while and hadnt really watched an actual play of one until this was suggested to me a while ago, I redsicovered it in my "Watch Later" list and I am HOOKED. absolutely fantastic acting and the accents and voices tickle me to no end. beyond amazed and delightfully spooked.
I love how characters behave in such i 'human' way and not a scripted 'movie' way. It's what makes rpg so special and immersive. They respond with aggression, flight or stun. Without ingenious ideas off the cuff out of nowhere of James Bond style actions. Just raw human. Fantastic playing.

i absolutely adore the beautiful inter cast relationships - i think what got me especially in post covid times is that beautiful conversation between Judith and Mickey, and that moment of physicality genuinely had me in so much pain - I've been playing in a long form VTM game since around 2021, and because of various issues we've never had an in person session. We're a small group, but gosh it makes me nostalgic for the one session we got to play in person, I got to hold my fellow players hand in a moment of fear and weakness, and i just want to applaud the cast and storyteller for that brilliant moment!
Yep I play a lot either online or in person and while online is also good/better for certain things playing offline is way better for character/person to person connections, be it in intense moments or moments of fun or sad moments. It's really something I've observed that the amount of laughter is way more at irl events.
got here from re-watching the story of arkham asylum. only to find a story about a group of people in arkham going into an asylum. so bottom line: good job for once, ytb algorithm ;D
This is amazing - compliments to all players and the amazing Keeper, also to everyone behind the scenes! :D I dont think I've ever seen a live TTRPG that was so captivating, creepy and funny at the same time.

I only just discovered this and my oh my it is wonderful! Such a great team and such a great atmosphere :D They have been rolling so terribly though that you almost have to wonder if that is some flaw in the roll20 programming or something. Statistically they should have succeeded quite a bit more on those very high stat rolls.
Loving this series so far and have been recommending it to friends. I wondered if Mark had DM'd (Keeper'd) before since he seems a natural. I like to take a long bath and listen to this (like I often do with Critical Role), and I have fallen in love with Lucia Versprille's voice. She has a gravitas to her voice that belies her youth. She was born to play a femme fatale or heroine in a noir, and I'd say she has a career in voice work if she pursues it. The only thing that bothers me is the repeated use of the word "like", but that is just a generational difference that seems to be ubiquitous.
