  • I usually run the gas through blue jeans legs with the ends tied in a knot to make a 40/50 micron filter sock...
    The longer you let it sit the better...

    Ive used 5 year old gas that sat in a can with open air funnel, still works fine in my lawnmower. If you make sure to filter it if its real old, you can use 10 even 20yr old gas in things like lawnmowers and it will run fine. The gas going bad fear isnt as severe as some people think.

    That battery sitting there with clamps on terminals could be a bad combination with all those gasoline vapors . A little bump or bang causing some vibration to that wooden deck, the clamp moves just enough to cause a spark and KAWOOOOOOMIE!!!!! another tragic story in the local paper. Growing up, I witnessed my neighbor set his truck on fire twice and almost burned down his tractor shed , all three times he was priming carb while having j cables connected to battery. My Dad said while laughing one day, "our neighbor was a good teacher and we can really learn alot from him"
    Just saying!
    Be careful

    I am totally impressed by this video and your nuanced technique with the bottle and cap. I filled up my truck and the clutch went out 14 months ago. I want to recycle and use my gas like you did because it's so expensive now.. Thank you..

    Cool..Here's an idea..Boaters trick..Make your own Mr. Funnel with 100% silk sheet over a big funnel..Gas flows through and water/muk does not...Then use Ethanol Shield to treat old gas and let it stew in clear containers for 24 hours...Mix it with 91/92 octane fuel and ratio 65/35 to save on project gas revival......

    I had 20 gallons of 1 year old gas that was water contaminated. Poured it into a translucent hdpe container, added more water, agitated, then let it settle with caused the water and remain ethanol to settled then used an electric fuel pump to siphon off the gasoline layer on top.
    Left me with 15 gallons of clear, clean ethanol free gasoline.

    I wonder if some octane booster would be very beneficial in this situation?

  • @outcast7899
    @outcast7899 2 роки тому +3

    Hey Mr Ford
    Before you waste money on that octane booster, read up a litte. Octane booster doesnt make the fuel better or more powerful, its main purpose is to prevent predetonation in higher compression engines. You only want the combustion to happen when the plug fires at a precise time and not when the fuel is merely compressed with air in a hot engine before its time to combust. That will cause knocking ( combusting before piston reaches top of stroke). Thats actually how a diesel engine fires, put in simple terms. Not trying to be a know it all, just trying to prevent bad fuel being sent through a good engine. I do agree with G Zuk about water in fuel. ETOH is not friendly to 2stroke engines, and true fuel is about $32/ gallon. For several years Ive added water to my small engine fuel (before 2 cycle oil added) with couple drops of food coloring, let sit over night and decant the water off bottom of container. You can do the math if you want to confirm results. 5 gal of 10% etoh fuel = 64 oz..of etoh, add 20oz water and after it phases out 24 hours, youll have about 84 oz water/etoh. Youll never buy true fuel again and your small engines will love you for it
    Have a good one
    PS if your wondering what to do with old etoh/water, I just wait till dark and pour a (small amount) into an old metal soup pot (out doors)and lite it, pop a beer and watch the pretty blue flames. Warning: this is dangerous, please exercise extreme caution as with any liquid fuel!

  • @jy1235689

    I wonder if this is why bad fuel will run poorly to start when all the sludge is at the bottom, then get better as a car runs. Maybe the fuel return line is mixing it?

      You can hear it dripping into something. Lol. Obviously we need to care for the earth and keep a clean environment. But we have such an overly sensitive culture today. Every chemical we have came from the earth. The Earth is great at filtering soil and air. I’m not saying companies or people should purposely pollute. That’s absolutely wrong! but we don’t Need to attack this guy in his comments either. We have made way too many rash decisions in the pursuit of “Environmental Justice.”

    My gas is about 1 year old in my boat. From last summer. And my boat kinda runs rough at idle and low rpm. Would the gas go bad in this amount of time?

      If the gas has ethanol, it noticeably degrades after 6 months. 1 year and it will have so much moisture that a lawnmower won't run.

    An easier and less messy way to do this would be to drill a small hole in the caps and screw in a ball valve. You can get bulkhead seals that would work for this and make for a tight seal and a fairly flush fit so you don't have sediment sitting around the threads of a normal valve.

    Question: if that stuff is in the gas already and it just settles over time, then why not just shake it up and use it?

    • @brandonkoh8361
      @brandonkoh8361 3 роки тому +4

      I read that gasoline goes bad mainly cuz it gets oxidized. Not sure if the stuff that settles is a solid that precipitates out from this chemical reaction or something else. Idk, i aint an expert

      For sure gasoline is a hygroscopic solution, meaning it dissolves water from our humid air. That dissolved water in the gasoline increases the boiling and ignition point, which causes poor detonation. This is the primary reason to separate old gasoline.

  • @russs3001

    Don't like to be critical, however an objective look at this says: 1. Very, very dangerous for a number of reasons, not the least being fire hazard, ecological hazard, and personal Healt hazard. Remedy: ensure any sources of potential ignition and spark generation eliminated; capture stuff that's drained out; wear chemical protective gloves. Besides that, if gas is bad (just look at the color of it in the video, you really don't want to put it in a combustible engine. Best to properly store gas with an additive, use it after a year and repeat process. Much, much safer all around.

      I live in the country, and a little bit of spilled oil or gasoline makes no difference. Gasoline especially, it evaporates so quickly that it is basically gone before it can seep or contaminate anything.
      If you were draining a hundred gallons, that would be a concern. A cup full of gasoline leaking onto the ground is negligible. Practically nothing.
