I got this game as a gift when I was 11 in 1989. It was a gift from a older sister because I loved Jason/horror movies. I mastered the game by the time I was 12. Once you learn the mechanics it isn’t that bad. I’m 42 now and I still love/play this game and use the same strats I did as a kid.
The NES depiction of Camp Crystal lake is far more horrifying than the setting of the movie. On here its like the apocalypses. Animals attacking you, jasosns mothers head floating around attacking you. Zombies, then their is Jason. This looks more like a job for Simon Belmont.
be advised. If you're down to 2 counselors left or Jason's life bars at 5 or 6 left. Jason won't stop. It's a fight to the finish until Jason is defeated.
The suspense of not knowing when he would show up plus the jumpscare complete with sound effect when he finally did appear was enough to scare me plenty as a kid. And there's the general spooky atmosphere of the whole thing and some pretty legit sprite work.
Mark is a beast! It seems like he doesn't get tired at all. I like how you had some fast characters and some slow. I just used to teleport using the smaller houses
This is fantastic! I played this a whole bunch as a kid but I never really beat it. I've watched a couple of playthroughs now and none are as complete as this video.

We have all had our share of video games in which we tried so hard to beat the final boss. When we get there, we only have 1 or 2 lives left. That is what each Friday The 13th episode represents. Even after we defeat a boss once, we cannot just let it be. We gotta beat the boss and beat the game again. 😉
I play through this game on my original NES every Friday the 13th. :) My ideal way to play through this was: three counselors with machetes, one with the axe, one with the torch, and one with the pitchfork. I thought the only way to get the axe was by defeating Pamela with a machete. Very cool that you found that randomly spawning axe in the cabin in the woods! How did you find that out? With that info you could have two counselors with axes. I tried defeating Pamela so the axe would appear but not take it, then go back to Pamela's room with a different counselor so they could upgrade from the rock to the axe for free. Didn't work; the room was empty. Great playthrough; thanks for sharing!
You can spawn an axe in the woods by simply going down the path before that cabin and then going back up. But yeah, Pamela can only be fought once a day. Fighting Pamela with the axe is one of the ways to get the torch, but the quick torch method we use in speedruns will get you a torch in 1 minute.
to spawn the axe in the cabin in the woods, it's not random, nothing in this game is: 1. enter the cabin, leave 2. enter teh cabin again, go inside, when you try to leave, the axe will be there so, you have to load the cabin in the woods twice, but you will only see it when you have a key and can enter, as it appears when you're leaving
I had this game when I was a kid not too long after it came out and I remember playing it in the dark when I was home alone and it scared the crap out of me. It felt like an added thrill factor to the game. I'm 41 now and collect these games. I just played this last night for the first time in decades, alone at home, but when I saw the opening title scene and heard the music start playing I decided to keep the lights on. 😆
I made it to day 3 .....Mark had 4 healths and the torch ....i went into the cave and defeated Jasons Moms Head ......There it was !!!! The almighty Pitchfork !!!! I grabbed the Pitchfork and immediately ran out of the room and .....ooops i fell into a hole and died instantly . Thats the only time i ever even seen the stupid pitchfork and I didn't get to kill a zombie .
