Hungry Gamer I suppose me too :). But looking back at the cards in SoK - they are pretty innocent to me. Maybe because I grew up with admiring paintings of Boris Valleyo, Frank Frazetta, even Louis Royo (I had access only to the paintings which were already curated to my age then) and other fantasy painters from the '80ies and earlier. I have only one card in GoK which is so disturbing to me that I am surprised of my gut reaction. It's one of the dark gloom expansion - separate add on with "matured" cards versions - where you can find a bloody ritual and a sacrifice of babies. This is truly shocking card to me. Tits and other stuff - fine, but that one gets me.
I passed on gloom because of the stupid d6 that you criticize with good reason. I don’t have a problem with the pinup art, but it also serves no function. Take those away and you have a nice saga/keyword system. Time will tell between Zerywia and Kilforth which one will have to leave my collection.
@@HungryGamerReviews something you will play many times and not sell. Polish kickstarter from koliba. Slavic lore, sagas and dice. You will like it. Some heroes are not fully clothed, but nowhere near the pinup art of Sok.
@@HungryGamerReviews a dude called ensid made a series of videos about Z (on youTube), the Polish version, with English explanation, awaiting fulfilment of the English board game. In the mean time I tried to play SoK this afternoon, but failed - haven't figured out yet. You are supposed to draw 2 cards from a reward deck. There are 4 decks. But how the hell am I supposed to make an informed decision? I chose a human sorceress. So should i grab from Ally deck? Spell deck? no idea. I hate that kind of freedom. Especially since the manual spelled out what Ancient I was strongly supposed to play with. Followed later by oh, do not play Ancient on first game. 5 and 6 are successes, but wait, 4 is a success as well if you decide to play on Easy. Place moneshoba in the middle, oh wait, scratch that, place some gloom card instead if you decide to play Hard. Flip 2 cards to gloom side. Flip another for a harder game. Difficulty modifiers that go all over the place kill the game for me, I had the same thing with Darkest Night 2. There should be a list for this. 1. Walk in the park settings: 4-6 are success. Moneshoba in the middle. No Ancients. Flip 2 cards. 2. same but with Ancients. etc The Designer should have the decency to write that out. For us. He is the expert.
Good review. Regarding your quibbles - I wonder what would you say if Louis Royo took it and made all the paintings there ;)
In this instance...nothing! I don't know who that is! But I'll look it up and let you know!
I would say HARD PASS

I really agree with your 'quibbles' but it still looks good.
It is fun for sure. Just gotta take the good w the quibbling!
I guess you sold your copy?
I did! Played it many times, but just didn't hold my interest
