Unfortunately, no. That was an add-on. Though to be honest I'm not sure it "added" much other than looking pretty and demonstrating setup locations for the decks.
There are two ways of luck mitigation in the game. 1. You get 4 fate tokens at the start of the game, you can spend each one per day to get one gurantied success. The secon is an optional rule, but i use this all the time: You can discard a collected rumor (from your hand) to change a dice result by the gold value of the rumor (1-4). Loosing a rumor is not an easy decission. Keep in mind, that for many test (except for fights and events) you can spend more actions to get more sccuesses. (till you rest or change location)
@@randothomas3733 Thanks for this clear answer. Poeple keep saying its soo random.. well there still some mechanics of mitigation as i can see. You just can't abuse them which is perfectly fine. Normally i suppose you need to focus on encounters with low chances of failure first..
@@ptitbass 1st i only have Gloom of Kilforth, the original game. SoK is kind of 2nd edition, i plan to buy as well (as a big expansion for me). Cards dont modify the dice results, but if you get them as assets some of them boost your stats, so you get more dice to roll. Keep in mind, this game is mainly a very very nice choose your own adventure game, that enfold a nice story through the places & encounters and your own imagination. The game give you some direction with your saga and the ancient (boss), that you have to defeat. At the standard difficulty you will have plenty of time and sometimes i play that way only to enjoy the journey. But with all options you can tweak it to be to the difficulty you want, so it will be a hard race against the time (less days + other options). But even then the games is full of narritive even if i loose 60% of the time, but that doesnt matter for me.
Excellent review, thanks for sharing - so glad you're enjoying the game! :D
My feelings about Gloom of Kilforth we’re very similar to those you express here. Daunting rule book; compelling play.
Really want to play this game! Great clear review
Huzzah! Thank you for the kind words.
Does the play mat come with the core set?

@@TheCardboardHerald thanks for the reply. I have now got the game and bought the gorgeous play mat too!
Go Phillies Go! Oh, and Kilforth!
Probably my favorite hat that I own. :-D
The art is well done, but I don't know if I'm digging the overall style. Either way, the game looks really fun.
Sorry english is not my main language. How luck mitigation is in that game?

@@randothomas3733 Isn't there other cards that enable you to modify dice results or gain success such as equipment or something?

In summary, a huge mess, that would have been much better as an app.
