"Debuted on 2/18/71 in Port Chester, NY, Wharf Rat was staple of the Dead's live repertoire since it first appeared. By 1973 and onward, it was generally played toward the end of the second set, in the Jerry 'ballad slot,' which included songs like Stella Blue, Black Peter, Morning Dew, and later Standing On The Moon and Days Between." - David Lemieux
Hey Grateful Dead admin, go to your settings on youtube studio and turn off mid roll ads, this is under the monetization tab on the left side. Jerry is rolling over in his Grave. It's not your fault, youtube added mid roll adds to all videos now as of august 2020, Please turn this setting off, we can handle the commercial at the beginning or end but not mid roll. It kills the vibe
Craig Holliday You could purchase UA-cam Premium and not ever have to deal with commercials ruining the vibe or any vibe. It’s well worth the pittance you pay.
This performance captures both his greatness - beautiful solo ! - and his desperation. We love you Jerry ! I'm English and travelled 6000 miles as a young man to see the Jerry Garcia Band in Marin County in 1980. Did it again after my first divorce in 2011 to see Bob Weir. Worth it all in spades !
i think brent is the more accomplished keys player of the lot, however i think early keith had the best piano tone, because it was well... a real piano. not to take away from brents electric piano. brent definitely had the most magic to offer.
When Jerry’s face was covered in shadow, but you could make out the crows feet on the sides of his eyes you knew he was smilin. And with that smile you knew everything was gonna be just fine, no matter where your trip was headed. Jerry bled the light. He was the beacon that steered your trip. God bless ya big guy. You are so, SO missed.💀⚡️🌹
Man!! for real!!! I still feel just as young as i did!!!! But It was a beautiful era, of great music, and good friends of all colors, didn't matter to us what race or religion anyone was. As long as you were kind n good hearted. Look at everyone today!!!
By 90 Bob was really driving the bus for the band onstage. Phil brilliant bass runs had dried up. Jerry was still coming over the top but only when inspired - poor Brent looks gacked outta his mind. I loved being there
Jerry makes it look soooo easy. He never gets those intense and screwed up kind of expressions that so many lead guitarists do. Nothing wrong with them doing that at all, but it shows their intense concentration whereas Jerry's playing just seem effortless. I think it's magic.
Don't get me wrong but Jerry wouldn't mind making a mistake or two on lead guitar but would be cool and relaxed about it. I'm a huge fan of Jerry and Grateful Dead. Adore them the way they are.
Gotta be honest but don’t they all look like some regular guys out hanging around a corner store?? But the looks are deceiving. . Truly masters of the art
Totally captivating. Why? Why? Why? Is it all of those pickups on Jerry's guitar getting him that fat distorted tone? Is it the visual of Micky's drums shaking? Maybe Brent's intense and far away look? Bob's concentration, deep and serious as ever? Bill's prize fighter gum chewing pattern? Maybe Phil's tone and restraint on such a delicate tune? They seem to capture the inherent ethereality of this song very well in this performance. Thank you The Grateful Dead.
Great tune. I saw the Dead & Co last night. I always forget what that moment feels like when all the pieces fall together and the crowd is in sync with the music. It really is a religious experience.
@@Dancinbear1995 yah, no doubt. I did get a taste. I've seen a lot of live music over the years but the Dead got it; like in terms of synchronicity with surroundings, music, and audience.

Never again will you or I have a Grateful Dead experience. It is sad and almost got me in a terrible twist when I was twenty in 1970 because I had a personal experience with this band. Couldn't move on as long as they were my muses so I divorced them for twenty years and listened to other genres ONLY. Classical was my favorite for years, but guess what? I went back to listening to the Dead anyway..never get them OUT of my soul~
Yes this particular concert meant a lot considering everyone I was with is no longer here, except in spirit. Love to all. Don’t give up the journey. Bob certainly hasn’t. It’s his time to shine like never before, with a brilliance never to be reinvented
Wow! I was there, had a great show met some locals who had a nice house party and turned me and my crew onto some awesome bluegrass by a local hero. Wish I could remember the Artist. *Good Times*

So awesome. I saw this show together with my high school sweetheart. 20 years old on too much LSD.
I believe Brent was their greatest keyboardist. He had such beautiful energy, especially between He and Jerry.
Brent was the best, he had his detractors but to me he was Pigpen, Kieth and Donna all rolled into one man when they it needed it most

I been following the Dead for as long as I can remember. 1972 was my first concert and I feel that Brent is the MAN!
Yes and nobody could follow him and I think it destroyed everybody who came after
"I know that the life I'm livin' is no good. I'll get a new start and live the life I should..." 🙏❤️

You were blessed, then. Because 89'-90' magic was strong.
My first show as well.
Mine too. The cops were out that day it seemed like they wanted to arrest the entire audience and maybe the band

hes louder in the mix than everybody sooo
