Not so silly question: What are the differences between vlogging, video podcast and a talking head video? Sometimes, I feel like these three terms are thrown about in an interchangeable fashion.
I love it! I vlog for 3 reasons: #1 Making memories (selfish) #2 Learning UA-cam, filming and editing #3 Helps people see how it looks on different destinations where they havent yet been or done. Or for Tips and Tricks 😊👍 Love your channel 😍
No I don't vlog. I could bore for Canada IRL so I need a plan and a script. I might adopt a vlog style but the only spontaneity would be from happy accidents that I choose to leave in.
Social media is so much more fun when your goal is not to go viral, but instead find value in documenting your life and seeing how other people are spending their days. Romanticize your own life, add music, reflect, journal and have fun with it! Social media is what you make it
This is 100 percent all my UA-cam videos are done for me. They’re a part of what my hobby is and how I share those moments with the guys a enjoy my hobby with. And the best part is I’ve made friends through cresting the content I enjoy making
I find that I actively seek out vlogs. I'm tired of "7 best ways" "5 mistakes" "best camera" "Don't buy this before watching" UA-cam is becoming more formulaic and everything starts to look the same. I would much rather get to know someone leading a life different than my own. Long live the vlog 😊
So encouraging! We stumbled on this video and thought we might be fighting a losing battle as we've started to vlog behind the scenes of our business with our daily life so people can get to know us and share our passion more intimately. So it's refreshing to hear people actually want to see that kind of content and we agree with you that everything looks the same! Same content, different channel.
Me too!! I love a good vlog. I think the reason vlogging is losing ground is because there’s not many good story tellers. And there’s too many egotistical selfies out there. But I love a vlog about someone’s lifestyle that’s different than mine.
dude, same. i think a lot of people are getting so bored with the same titles over and over again. me included. i’ll choose to follow someone for their personality over their topic “value” any day
Exactly! I love vlogs :) it's comforting and entertaining to see how other people go through their days, as long as the message they're putting out resonates with me. It's true. There are channels that follow a certain formula, and I find that boring. I like it when creators forgo thumbnail strategy this, or thumbnail title that, and just go for it and create, as a true artist would.
This "vlogging is dead" is only applicable to people who wants to go viral, grow, money-goal vlogging. New vloggers, pls don't be discouraged. Vlog because you love what you're doing and you're passionate in sharing your life even if it appears boring to people. Be yourself, you do you. If you want to film walking your dog do it because you like it. Don't think if people are gonna like it or not. Create content because you love what you are doing.
That’s one of the things that made UA-cam great back in the day. People were simply “Broadcasting themselves.” No stressing over the numbers, algorithm, posting daily, weekly, etc. They made various content because they simply wanted to.
*everyone has their opinions, let it affect your dreams positively.. I believe as a wanna-be entrepreneur there should always be a room for accepting constructive criticism..
So right, opinions aren't facts. There are silent vloggers who don't even speak. They just show things and they have a million views. Just keep on vlogging your way, I love vlogs!
I think the key to vlogging is that it has to have a beginning, middle, and end. It has to flow. I think the biggest component to vlogging is proper planning and storytelling. Informing the viewer upfront what they should expect to see in the vlog; as opposed to random clips of random things being comprised together.
Vlogs are about human life. It'll never be dead. Podcasts/ talking into mics might be - boring imo. Life is about relationships. Yes, people do want to see someone walking their dog. No tricks, no gimmicks, no try hard chat, just honest recording a normal walk to the park.
Me too on a sunday i lay on couch nd watch all the vlogs postef by people i follow. I don’t have to feed in my head anything or need to remember much i just want a relaxing nd joyful video
Story is and will always be king. A vlog is a constant story happening in the moment. It’s just a matter of knowing how to present it and getting people hooked on the story.
Agreed. I love aesthetic vlogs. People who are more into cottagecore, homesteading, etc. But the vlog needs to be niche, beautifully done, and have good story to keep my attention. But I mostly love watching vlogs.
I remember when I was lost and was really going through a rough time as a kid, watching vlogs was my safe space, it gave me a sense of hope, a different world I can go in and immerse myself in. Now that’s why I Vlog and create content so that I can help others going through a hard time and bring hope to them too.
For me, vlogging is most engaging when it gives a 'behind the scenes' to the core content of a channel, or is shown as an 'on location' viewpoint of the normal content, such as someone visiting somewhere related to the channel's core content.
As someone who’s been doing lifestyle vlogs for over 10 years, I hate to admit it but it’s true. The day to day videos just don’t get views anymore. I’m so used to doing real life videos about anything and everything and I’m currently trying to figure out how to niche down and revive my channel with fresh content that still has the Vlogging element to it as like you mentioned, I feel intimidated sitting down talking to a camera locked on a tripod. I just don’t enjoy it. I much prefer to Vlog. I just need to figure out my niche. Great video!
It can take time to find your niche, but it’s best to start with all the things you are passionate about and make content about those. Then just see what works and go from there 🙌! You got this!
I’ve always taken these types of videos with a grain of salt. Despite what they say, I will not stop vlogging- I love it! I never started a YT channel to hurry up grow. I started it to target a specific group, which is moms who have dreams but let go of them once they became a mom. I’m a mom of four, 34 years old and this year I will finally go to school to become a nurse which has been a dream! I don’t upload with the intent to bring in views, I upload to give hope to those moms and it’s a slow process and I don’t mind that one bit. It’s the impact and not the amount of subscribers that matters to me. So if you live vlogging, take this video with a grain of salt and do what you do without expecting fame in return. Do it because you live it and truly want to make a difference and the analytics won’t stress you out. Love this channel and all the info it provides ❤️
yeSs I completed agree!! I just started vlogging my journey moving to LA and mainly to inspire others who want to move but have fears of it not working out in their favor. So I'm documenting everything that happens a long my journey ups and downs, EVERYTHING
That is a good niche. There are so many women who become moms and then want to go after their dreams after. And you’re doing exactly what they’re talking about in this video. You’re vlogging but it’s under the niche that you’re a mom going after your dreams. I’m jealous that you have such a good niche and a good life for YouTubing.
This video slap me right in the face 🥲 My channel used to blow up when I upload videos about my job (I was a barista) but when I quit my job for my mental health, and decided to start vlogging full-time, my views dropped so badly. BUT I'm pushing through the low views because I honestly love vlogging. I will take your advice on putting more thoughts and plans into my vlogs in the future, also keep the quality up there. I'm rooting for every vloggers in here, you can do it!
Since you know a great deal about coffee, do you think if you incorporated some of your knowledge about it in your vlogs? Perhaps, do some on the topic and visiting some well known and unknown cafes and coffee shops in your area and abroad. Do some taste test and do giveaways to Subscribers.
I think people love vlogs still but want value. They don't want the "now I'm doing this now this" etc. They want a story and something interesting, something creative. And yeah, usually there is a creative draw or purpose to the ones that get watched.
Yeah my videos are pretty bad right now but I’m hoping to improve. But first I’m doing them for fun and trying to discover what I’m good at or what I want to do. I’m nearly 30 and I still don’t know.
It’s nice to read the comments and know that humans still appreciate human connection. Everything is not always about blowing up, stats, deadlines and dopamine. UA-cam is a space that gets increasingly more generic with advice like this.
Vlogging is not dead please 😂 Vlogs are absolutely interesting to watch, but then it depends on how the creator makes it enticing, creative and value filled.
It shouldn’t be about people knowing you. It should be about making whatever you want to genuinely make. A vlog is just a video blog. A blog could be about anything. It could be informative, instructional, or maybe just a stream of opinions. You can do all of that… teaching, giving value, or making something entertaining and engaging to watch… in “vlog” format. (I’ve experimented with it and so long as you provide value, they will watch. I’ve seen.) The problem lies in someone’s ability to tell a story in that vlog WHILE providing that value in the form of s tutorial or what have you… & the ability to hook someone to watch it via their SEO. At least, that’s what I’ve found to be my personal issue. when I get it right, it works. But usually my title and thumbnail are the culprit.
I personally love watching vlogs, especially from people who live in different places than I do because I’m not able to travel very much. But there’s definitely something to be said about making sure you include something interesting in your vlog rather than just “this is what I’m doing, and now I’m doing this”. Although honestly if I like the person enough I still find myself watching their vlogs even if they aren’t doing a whole lot. I don’t know, sometimes it’s cozy and relaxing to just watch people live their lives and not think too much about how much I dislike my own life. But maybe I’m in the minority of that nowadays xD
I took Casey's class on how to create vlogs in his Monthly course. The thing about him is that he didn't accidentally capture cool daily life. It was all intentional and calculated, it just looked like it was by accident and we were getting the natural/ authentic daily life. I think there will always be a place for vlogging but if you want main stream success you have to be entertaining, have ideas and do cool things.
One thing people overlook about Casey is that his life is very unusual. We have to figure out what is unique or especially relatable about our lives. Or the unique perspective on a common situation, etc.
I agree with Omar. I’ve been transitioning my gardening videos to more vlog style. And my retention rate and rpm have gone up. The topics are ALWAYS gardening… but it is teaching through storytelling. It’s less efficient to get points across but it seems viewers want to hang out to get the information. I see vlog style as for loyal watchers… list videos (5 plants that…) as attracting new audience.
I’ve been enjoying these segments with the two of you, love the way you guys interact with each other and communicate with the audience. So the big question then is… When are we going to see a long form podcast/UA-cam show from you?😎
At the beginning of my UA-cam channel, I started with the mindset of being someone everyone can love and appreciate but then I couldnt really fake it and all, because it's very stressful to fake a whole routine and all... Realising that I just stuck to filming what I really do rather than what others would want me to do! I just know I came here to feel appreciated but at least, I learnt to be comfortable being myself in front of the camera!
It really depends how/what you Vlog. Because we just launched our Vlog and each episode has a Goal, Problem and Solution and we stick that. We come up with shooting location and script what needs to be in it and share. For example: We have been sharing the road to Pokemon World Championship as a player getting there with the focus of what it takes and how we are getting ready to able to make it as an Esports player.
I actually think the old fashion, low tech and simple vlog is a niche that most youtubers forgot about years ago. That's why people in that space blew up last year without even putting out that much content. There is not a lot of competition. Everyone is to busy trying to out wow each other, they just abandoned the simple low key laid back no thrills vlogs of 15 years ago. There are still millions of people that want to see content like that. One can do very well if they do it right and have a interesting personality.
I’m a stay at home mom and I’m vlogging in hopes to begin the healing process from my traumatic past. I try to emulate what I think people may like without taking away from who I am. I have written scripts but that’s because I have a hard time talking on camera because of my anxiety issues. I haven’t gotten to find out about myself until recently that’s what my channel is about: finding out what I like to do because I never even got a chance to. I’m trying to make discoveries about myself. I know that my videos suck right now but I hope to change that.
We're struggling as a travel vlog channel. We've decided to start focusing on some 'how to' videos to help get attention from our audience. We want to use our travel as a backdrop to the information. It's such a challenge to know how to pick the right video ideas for travel especially since it's quite saturated, but we keep testing and tweeking. Hopefully it pans out!
I made vlogs for 3 years when I started and got up to about 700 Subs. niched down 2 years later 7K subs. What I learned from Vlogs is how to actually create videos, editing and formatting content. It has been a great ride and I love creating content. like my guys say "You Gotta Just Hit Record" 🙌❤💯 Thank you guys for all your knowledge over the years!
Omar your “Best Camera .......2022" video was great, it’s how I found the Think Media channel, subscribed and have watched countless hours of your content. You guys are all over it 👌
In 1950, people were transfixed by TV regardless of what was being broadcast, but the novelty of the medium soon wore off. Same today with YT. It's all about the info contained. I watched and liked Omar's Best Camera video, but it didn't matter to me whether he was in a park or indoors. I really just wanted his substantive reviews the cameras, which were quite good.
I have a vlog channel and I love it! It may not be the fastest growing or have the biggest numbers, but it's a way for me to document my life and memories. I LOVE watching vlogs on UA-cam, in fact, it's about all I watch! So I find joy in making them, and hope that others find joy when my content pops up on their subscriptions or recommended videos or wherever it may be, just like I do when I see my favorites pop up.🙂 But I do understand where this video is coming from and feel it's very informative if you're someone who is looking to make their channel grow quickly.
Guys, you just made my day! I took this entire video as confirmation that I am on the right path with my vlogs! Why? Because, although I really love the vlog format (love filming and editing them) I honestly do try to have some “ point” to each vlog episode. I live in Athens, Greece and try to show different aspects of real daily life in the city from a local’s perspective… because that’s what I love watching from creators around the world. I think that’s the key too… to film whatever it is that you actually like watching! Thanks again :)
I think vlogging exists, but like you said it should still deliver some info. I recently did a food tour of Anime Expo and it was 100% vlog style but Hyper focused on the food, rating it etc.
Good convo, I personally love vlogs and is what I remember watching on UA-cam back in 2012 but I gotta agree, you need to provide a value for the consumer to want to watch your vlogs, we are currently creating a media platform and documenting its growth through vlogs has helped.
This video was filled with so much golden information because like these two gentlemen had mentioned: I initially thought vlogging was about filming every aspect of my day, but it had no value to the viewer. Now I understand that building the audience first is key by providing them with value whether it's a vlogging format or talking head. Then I can have a little more freedom to vlog about other stuff after I build my audience. Just superb.
I don’t know I watch a lot of vlog channels and the videos get a high number of use. I personally wouldn’t save logging is dead but that’s just because I enjoy watching them.
There are some Disney Parks vloggers that are killing it. But the main spectacle is the Parks they are going to. So in short, vlogs work in a certain context I think.
Interesting topic! During the pandemic, most of my videos were shot in my room. Now, I combined vlog and educational videos. While I'm cycling, I'll be sharing tips, values and lessons. Cheers ❤️
What I love about those who do videos outdoors, is seeing the scenery where they are. One of my favorites is Valerie Lin/Artist who lives in Berlin. She takes you out throughout her city (beautiful). I never thought of visiting Berlin until I saw her videos.
Thanks guys. You have done a great job transitioning from Sean to a new era of think media. I enjoy watching you two just as much. Also Omar… how the heck did you get that AP???!!
It’s true. Even before I watched this video I think I knew this in my heart. I’m kind of annoyed I started vlogging as I it’s too early but at the same time I’d be gutted if I never made the videos I did because they’re of such precious memories and lovely trips that I’m so glad I’ve got and I wanted to vlog what I’ve vlogged simply because… I just wanted to. Ahh I’m annoyed with myself. 😂 I mean who knows though where UA-cam and video content creation is going in the future. If you do what you love and it makes you happy I feel like that’s a pretty good start. A really interesting video; very helpful.
Yep. I totally agree…. I’m getting way more traction on my other content. I spent so much time making my vlogs beautiful and UA-cam’s algorithm just isn’t a friend of mine. I do better on other platforms. Makes me sad but, it’s reality! I’m a singer/songwriter/painter trying to share my life and my personality, because I find when I do what I do best (sing) they just don’t do well, I think people like the personable stuff more. This has become very heavy since tiktok…. It’s changing how people consume content. Something to think about.
What I took away from this video is that if you want to vlog, your vlog has to have an "angle"-- meaning, it can't be "day in my life as a regular person," BUT you can do daily vlogs that target people who are interested in you/your lifestyle/your job. So like, "day in my life as a full time content creator," "day in my life as a stay-at-home mom," "day in my life as a hotel concierge," "day in my life training for an ultra-marathon", "day in my life as a medical resident," "day in my life as a college student," or whatever, and share helpful tips and information for people who are part of that demographic or WANT to be part of that demographic. Basically, find your unique selling point, whatever is special about you, unique about you, whatever you're really knowledgeable about or experienced in, and you can still share that in a vlog format to make it more entertaining and personal than just a sit-down talking head video.
So this is funny that I looked this up. I started my youtube a few days ago and uploaded a review, but now Im thinking I want to convert it to a channel about my Daily life as you guys put it. Vlogging about the struggle with depression, anxiety, how to wade through all that. Only I feel as if I don't know enough about the subject matter to do so. Same with my photography. Same with my reviews. Somebody suggested I do a DAD thing with my kids and since I work from home, a day-to-day life of being a work from home, Dad. I just Value privacy and especially those of my kids. Heck, I didn't even want to have my face on my review video. It's a challenge. I guess it's like everything else... you need to do what you're passionate about and it will translate onto the videos. And the best part about that is, you won't care much for a big following or large sum of money because you're enjoying the journey itself.. Everything else is just icing on the cake, so to speak. Those are usually the ones that blow up anyways. The universe just seems to work that way.
Strategic or focused vlogging pulls me in. I would rather watch someone making a point while moving through their day (or just changing scenery) than talking heads at a table discussing a topic. (No offense to this video...I obviously watched it.) As always, good stuff!
I actually love vlogs ... especially if I love the vlogger ... then watching their "daily life" is a lot of fun and quite interesting. It is all about the UA-camr's charisma & charms and their filmmaking chops. I can watch Casey's vlogs any time, along with a few other vloggers.
I recently started uploading to my own channel around being a beginner photo/videographer and my initial plan is to just use it for documenting my own journey to becoming a better photo/videographer. The first and probably most important thing I have learned is that story is so important, but its all a learning process and as your intro says, you just have to hit record, make some videos and some mistakes and see what works/doesn't work and take it from there.
You guys need to use the 6" rule, never any closer than 6" to a condenser, you both get close and are on the verge of distorting or are distorting, when Nolan backs away he sounds great, when youre too close you get really tinny sounding
@James Veldey yep, I learned the 6" rule from a recording engineer that was doing my vocals on some cuts with my band back in the 80's. Its always held true, you get a warmer more round Sound in the 6-10" area, and that pointing the chin at the element is also great advice👍🏼👍🏼. Omar is really snappy and tinny because hes right on top. Nolan sounds great when he backs away a bit
As a vlogger striving to grow and become a unicorn like Casey, like Elliot Choy, like Emma... I must say, I desperately needed this video. Thank you guys!
I live overseas and what sites that the US sees is not totally what is being presented overseas. I suspect the algorithm is different. Everyday Vloggers (overseas) are smashing it’s crazy how many subscribers they have with a unedited clip of 20 mins. The contrast from US tubers vs overseas is so different.
Totally agreee i actually love mixing informational content in a vlog style cause … i love making vlogs and also it switches up from the just sitting and talking format .. and i found that those videos do better than just me sitting and talking … Loved this video Think 💯 Sweet bitter facts 😝
This spring I was filming bear hunts for three weeks out in bear camp and during that time I was also taking small clips and put together about a 45 minute vlog at the end of my vacation for my audience. It actually didnt do to bad but i used that video for more of a "community" video. It was for my subscribers and people who continuously watch my content and not exactly to get new subscribers.
I’ve been trying to vlog for years. I’ve tried to edit like Casey, tell stories like Casey, use music like Casey does, but it’s hard to do a proper vlog and tell a good story when your life basically consists of getting up, going to work outside of the house, coming home, taking care of your disabled wife, feeding your cats and your disabled wife, getting ready for bed, taking a nap because you don’t sleep well, then getting up and doing it all over again. I’ve been trying to learn how to trade binary options for years and I wanted to document my journey from being where I am now to being able to vlog and trade full-time. I used to do “talking head” videos where I would tell stories about experiences I’ve had. And they totally blew up. Even getting 1000 views was nothing then. Now I’m lucky to even scratch 20 or 30 views per video, sometimes 50 or 60. Until I start profiting with my trading and having new adventures, I really just don’t know what to do. I’d actually take any advice from any of you that would want to help.
damn bro, definitely keep going and try to make videos that people actually care about - identify who you want your audience to be and make videos about what they care about, mixing in your own personality and experience to make it unique to you 👊 and improve the thumbnails and titles lol, learn from mrbeast haha
This is very interesting! I started my channel end of Feb this year and decided that I was just going to make videos on each job I do. Took me for ever to decide what i was going to do but I realised that vlogs seemed to be running out of steam. when i looked deeper into it i found that new vloggers would be still at a few hundred subs after a year so i guess my format for now is working . I do next to no talking just the job from start to finish . So in five months i have 1800 subs not crazy amount but probably 1800 move than I thought I'd have. I was just sent a tool from a company to promote because they said they loved my videos ( Yeah Right ) and someone bought me 5 coffees. I think you guys are on to something.
i can confirm everything what you said. i decided to do a Daily vLog and im still doing it, traveling around the world filming myself. It was never my intention to grow my youtube channel and i can say now doing it for over a year it just started to grow a tiny little bit..so IF you want to grow your channel... stop vlogging :D i will continue doing it for the joy of it and to be able to go back in time in my life, but i will also change something about the classical vlog. the difference from when i started to today is, that i NOW want to grow my channel and i cant keep wasting my time with a vlog when NO one knows you.
Same here! I have however started a new channel that'll branch out and be a more photography based niche while keeping this channel more lifestyle vlogs/mental health and fitness. I'm hoping it works🤞. What's your channel about??
something that has been working though is vlogging within a niche. look at parkour and flipping and all those action sport niches, and even the fitness industry. A bunch of people in those niches are vlogging, and doing great. Heck, I do flips on my trampoline with my friends, vlog us doing it, and then i post it, and just recently I've started getting a lot of veiws. I think that the main thing is that you start out vlogging in a niche, and as you start to grow an audience who is interested in watching, not to see you do the activity, but because they like who you are, then you can start to branch out and include some more of your life and other things that you do.
Anyone who's discouraged, please do not be ! Vlogging is not dead. Let me explain. Content is everywhere. If you understand your ideal audience AKA who you want to talk to, they will listen. Always add VALUE + ENTERTAINING content together so it grows exponentially and builds an audience over time. The goal is to be yourself and focus on how to let the world see that in their own way through your POV. If you can provide valuable content in a form that your audience loves then your channel will grow and your content will help you build more influence down the line. Hope this helps people !
Thank you for sharing these tips. I think I need to work more on my vlogs and focus on giving people more values through my contents. I am just a newbie and I am getting overwhelmed already with all I have to learn to grow on this platform
This is tremendous advice guys. UA-cam just isn't built for vlogging in the way we once knew. And as it stands right now, there needs to be a clear concept and story for a video to succeed. You can totally vlog as a beginner, but it needs to be absolutely dialled for retention, with wicked pacing, A+ storytelling and a growth friendly title, thumbnail and SEO. If you don't want to do that, it's okay. You can always make videos that aren't meant for growth (ie. on a second channel) or just post them with the intent of just connecting with your audience.
Very good point to think about the purpose - not all videos are about growing an audience, but can be just about learning about editing, getting more comfortable in front of the camera or just having fun for yourself. Then the number of views and engagement is secondary.
To be honest…this video is such a morale killer for me..like, I KNOW I’m nobody, I KNOW I’m not interesting, I KNOW I’m all over the place but that’s just me…
That's where you have to start tho! No one cares about us, but they do care about what camera to buy, or how to edit - and with service people began to start caring
A lot of great points that reassuring me I’m on the right track 😩🥴😊. I watch a variety of different channels from beauty and hair, lifestyle, cooking, social media, tech and more and noticed this topic keeps coming up. I’m a multi-passionate creative and often would get stuck on which niche to focus on but recently found a way to express all my ideas and things I enjoy doing through Vlog-style storytelling. I’m still fine-tuning it but it’s a great challenge and I’m seeing better results.
I think it depends. I have been on UA-cam since 2012 and I just did "main channel" "talking head" topics and I was growing so slow! Once I decided to just try out vlogging what its like to be a mom and the daily stuff I deal with and do as a mom my channel grew! Each video gets 30+ views which may not seem like a lot to you but it is to me. My CTR is at a consistent 12% and up, with an average view duration of 6min +. So I definitely think its not dead but I think its all about what content are you delivering and what is your audience taking from it. Love you guys! Also thank you Omar I have learned a lot from your videos!
In part, I think it comes down to establishing a specific context around what you want to share on a channel. Some YT'ers are dividing out content to other channels; specialization seems to be the thing to bring clarity to what you're sharing and who your target audience is.
1000% agree! For example, my next video will be about my experienced traveling in St. Lucia where I combine footage of me speaking to the camera and walking you through the trip along with vlog-like clips while I was there.
That’s one take. If you think the oath of least resistance to grow on UA-cam is vlogging: Then yes, it’s not the way. As vitality and egregiousness is what garners the most attention nowadays. But vlogging should still be acknowledged as some peoples creative outlets or connections to the world. So to generally project it being ‘dead’ is a little harsh. At a Pokémon Go event (yes it’s still alive and well,) I saw some teenager out there vlogging. Was he the most eccentric? No. The most audible? No. The most marketable? No. But did he get out of his comfort zone and enjoyed what he was doing, and vlogged around more people than me with a full frame camera? Absolutely. Only making this comment because there are a lot of people wanting to get into the realm of vlogging (for various reasons) through Think. Not that anyone should need affirmation to pursue something they enjoy. But, ya know… the internet.
Most of the vloggers I know are Disney World, Travel, and Urbex vloggers. Not "life" vloggers, but ones who (more or less) review their trip. However, it is VERY saturated and only a tiny few get anywhere doing it. But the lure is strong because it's perceived as being "easy."
I mean at first I was offended lol but it’s right! I love vlogging but I’m gonna start being more specific about what my vlogs are about since I’m still growing my audience
5:48 Agreed. Vlogs can work...if they are specific. With the content and also the title/thumbnail/description box. They will have a much better chance of being searched, indexed, and recommended by an algorithm. This is why long podcasts that cover many topics are not as good as a podcast that is very specific. In theory you could make vlogs like you would a podcast. You make a long rambling vlog about a lot of things, and add some chapters for the hell of it. Then have a Vlog Clips channel that is just specific clips from the vlog. You could also use these Vlog Clips for Shorts content, Instagram Reels, etc.
I’ve started vlogging on my channel. It’s been a lot of fun to share what I’m doing as a musician and share my story as a hobbit down in little ol’ New Zealand
Just started my family travel Vlog on our family gap year in Europe (from America). I focus on the music, and architecture of our trips. Doing it for myself and my family and if others enjoy it great. Life is all about low expectations. Such a great platform to push my creativity. Wish I started sooner.
I understand this video and the vlogging subject which is the foundation for THINK Media's message for UA-camrs who want to make money. However, not everyone is doing vlogging for revenue. It might just be a way to share with friends and family.
Exactly. While I would love to have a large number of subscribers and be able to get monetized and sometimes do lives (which would make me step outside my comfort zone) I do my video's for my family and friends.
Wait then wouldn't u just send the vids to ur friends and family? U don't need to post it on a public platform for everyone to see. Their channel is mostly for ppl who are serious about making youtube creation a full time job
@@FrugalFlyRodder no…it’s for ppl who want to share their content with everyone including strangers…why not make videos and just send it to ur friends and family? U could do a group chat, private Facebook page, etc…. I’m saying THINK MEDIA’S PAGE is for full time creators, so if u don’t care about that, why would u watch their vids that teach u to how to do that. Just post whatever u want….
Big name Vlogger already have what we call “HISTORY” These guys have established a pre-existing community of millions of people who love them and who are ready to support them every way possible.. (if they upload a blank videos it would still get tons of views and tractions) As a Small vlogger with no history, no body would be willing to watch a 10 minutes video of you taking a dog to the park.. it maybe fun to you but it technically offers 0 value to the viewer.
@@ShaneDMCshorts I knew someone would say this…and you’re exactly right BUT of course it’s gonna be harder you’re not gonna have the same ease as these UA-camrs who already have a fanbase…that’s with anything you do on UA-cam but the fact that millions of people are watching them FANS OR NOT it just shows you that people still watch vlogs🤷♀️
@@listed8701 yeah and the fact that they love Kims Vlogs doesn’t also mean they’ll click a random Vlog about some creator who they have nothing to do with
Question of the day 💡 Do you vlog? Why or why not?
FREE ON-DEMAND CLASS 🎯 Learn 3 Secrets for Growing Your UA-cam Channel in 2022 👉 ThinkMasterclass.com
I vlog and get views based on the number of subs I have.
I have a vlog style channel for the gig economy. It's still a baby but I like doing it.
Not so silly question: What are the differences between vlogging, video podcast and a talking head video? Sometimes, I feel like these three terms are thrown about in an interchangeable fashion.
I love it! I vlog for 3 reasons:
#1 Making memories (selfish)
#2 Learning UA-cam, filming and editing
#3 Helps people see how it looks on different destinations where they havent yet been or done. Or for Tips and Tricks 😊👍
Love your channel 😍
No I don't vlog. I could bore for Canada IRL so I need a plan and a script. I might adopt a vlog style but the only spontaneity would be from happy accidents that I choose to leave in.
Social media is so much more fun when your goal is not to go viral, but instead find value in documenting your life and seeing how other people are spending their days. Romanticize your own life, add music, reflect, journal and have fun with it! Social media is what you make it
Great energy! Thank you.
Love this
I love this perspective! And when you enjoy yourself people are magnetised to you anyway
was looking for a comment like this, its true!
I like it when creators forgo thumbnail strategy this, or thumbnail title that, and just go for it and create, as a true artist would.
oh my gosh you give me hope!
I’ve only started my YT and I do agree with you, vlogging isn’t dead, it’s my fav form of content to both create and watch!
@@kayaconstance and you just won a subbie! keep doing you! 🧡💫

@@ScentsAndLife thank you!! 🥰
That’s one of the things that made UA-cam great back in the day. People were simply “Broadcasting themselves.” No stressing over the numbers, algorithm, posting daily, weekly, etc. They made various content because they simply wanted to.
Everyone has their opinions but don’t let it affect your dreams, if u want to Vlog, Vlog and make sure you are not creating boring contents.❤️❤️❤️
Love it! ❤
Yes indeed 🥰
Best take right here!
Thank you for this information!
@@simplymarvelous4130 you’re welcome!

Great point and noted 😊 thank you!

Vlogs are about human life. It'll never be dead. Podcasts/ talking into mics might be - boring imo. Life is about relationships. Yes, people do want to see someone walking their dog. No tricks, no gimmicks, no try hard chat, just honest recording a normal walk to the park.
Try hard chat😂😂😂

Me too on a sunday i lay on couch nd watch all the vlogs postef by people i follow. I don’t have to feed in my head anything or need to remember much i just want a relaxing nd joyful video
Story is and will always be king. A vlog is a constant story happening in the moment. It’s just a matter of knowing how to present it and getting people hooked on the story.
Yess
well said! All about informing people of a good story, hopefully you can speak it well to draw more people towards you
Agreed. I love aesthetic vlogs. People who are more into cottagecore, homesteading, etc. But the vlog needs to be niche, beautifully done, and have good story to keep my attention. But I mostly love watching vlogs.
Exactly
Totally agree, if a person knows how to tell a great story, then it works out really great! Like Logan Paul. He makes amazing vlogs.
Vlogging is about telling a story and inspiring other people. Showing your reality and being genuine. It's not about being rich or famous.
Exactly!!
Yes.
that's so true. It seems like it is only acceptable to do vlogging once you have an "status" -.-
I remember when I was lost and was really going through a rough time as a kid, watching vlogs was my safe space, it gave me a sense of hope, a different world I can go in and immerse myself in.
Agreed
As someone who’s been doing lifestyle vlogs for over 10 years, I hate to admit it but it’s true. The day to day videos just don’t get views anymore. I’m so used to doing real life videos about anything and everything and I’m currently trying to figure out how to niche down and revive my channel with fresh content that still has the Vlogging element to it as like you mentioned, I feel intimidated sitting down talking to a camera locked on a tripod. I just don’t enjoy it. I much prefer to Vlog. I just need to figure out my niche. Great video!
Thanks Jamie for sharing! You got 10 years of reps tho! You're killing it!!!
Vlog but focus on one item in your room ,lounge
It can take time to find your niche, but it’s best to start with all the things you are passionate about and make content about those. Then just see what works and go from there 🙌! You got this!
Jamiiiiiieeeeeeee!!!! Unrelated, I LOVE YOU! ❤
Do what you enjoy ..
I love this and that’s exactly what Vlogging is about. Great comment 👏🏽
yeSs I completed agree!!
Yess
What if you bring it back?👍
Do you think the views went down because they were used to your barista videos?
Maybe u can start a diff channel? It seems like u switched ur niche so ppl who followed u for the barista content might not watch ur current content
A big part of vlogging success is charisma.
I personally love vlogging cause it's one way I store all my memories in a timeline order. Everybody just do what you love and enjoy the process. 😊
Don’t compare yourself To others, we don’t always need to be ahead of someone else we know. Sometimes it’s not our time just yet

Totally true!
It’s nice to read the comments and know that humans still appreciate human connection. Everything is not always about blowing up, stats, deadlines and dopamine. UA-cam is a space that gets increasingly more generic with advice like this.
I think in this day and age with all UA-cam videos are becoming the same, we should keep vlogging! Don’t give up
Vlogging is not dead please 😂
Vlogs are absolutely interesting to watch, but then it depends on how the creator makes it enticing, creative and value filled.
So true 👍
Correct bc i enjoy vlogging
Can’t argue with a name like that
It shouldn’t be about people knowing you.
Vlog for fun people don’t worry about how it affects channel growth. Just have a good time, document your life and learn from each video.
Yes I just do UA-cam videos for myself like a video diary
Social media is so much valuable when it’s not about going viral but rather enjoy educate and learn
I love vlogs as long as it’s authentic & interesting……. I actually love watching ppl vlog their relatable lifestyles

I vlog because life is only once, and I would want to record the moments, so I have a way to recall those memories!
I personally like vlog form content that provides the valuable content and information because it keeps the audience entertained and retention good
I’m a stay at home mom and I’m vlogging in hopes to begin the healing process from my traumatic past.
It has been a great ride and I love creating content. like my guys say "You Gotta Just Hit Record" 🙌❤💯
Thank you guys for all your knowledge over the years!
I love watching vlogs! It's just that it's all so aesthetic focused now. Anyone have recommendations for youtube channels that are more real and raw?
Omar your “Best Camera .......2022" video was great, it’s how I found the Think Media channel, subscribed and have watched countless hours of your content.
You guys are all over it 👌
Thank you Matt, appreciate you a ton!
Just checked out your channel! Amazing!! Subscribed🙂🤙
@@ForGabeAndSammy thank you so much!!
Very interesting!!
As Omars Lawyer he can not address this question at this time... lol
(very nice though)
If you maintain a vlog, I think that it's important to stay within a niche so that people will know what to look for when they visit your channel.
Me too
100% agree - One of my best performing videos right now is a vlog format on a specific topic in my niche.
BANG 💥
Its always held true, you get a warmer more round
Sound in the 6-10" area, and that pointing the chin at the element is also great advice👍🏼👍🏼. Omar is really snappy and tinny because hes right on top. Nolan sounds great when he backs away a bit
Using vlogs to grow my editing skill set… def agree for growing an audience, that requires value add videos.
I might try that in the future, most of my videos other than tik toks are sitting content with graphics and what not
I’ve felt this way a long time about vlogs so I appreciate this conversation!!
Ironically vlogs are the most popular videos on my channel! But I think it's because they serve a purpose other than just documenting my day
This spring I was filming bear hunts for three weeks out in bear camp and during that time I was also taking small clips and put together about a 45 minute vlog at the end of my vacation for my audience.
@@ZEEESNM Thanks for this! I feel like I’m leaning in a direction to appeal to my viewers more. Got some ideas brewing. I’ll keep ya posted!
I was just sent a tool from a company to promote because they said they loved my videos ( Yeah Right )
and someone bought me 5 coffees. I think you guys are on to something.
if you’re reading this KEEP GOING! DONT QUIT. You got this! 👊🏼
Sure
i can confirm everything what you said. i decided to do a Daily vLog and im still doing it, traveling around the world filming myself. It was never my intention to grow my youtube channel and i can say now doing it for over a year it just started to grow a tiny little bit..so IF you want to grow your channel... stop vlogging :D
i will continue doing it for the joy of it and to be able to go back in time in my life, but i will also change something about the classical vlog. the difference from when i started to today is, that i NOW want to grow my channel and i cant keep wasting my time with a vlog when NO one knows you.
I’m new to UA-cam and really enjoy vlogging…but you are so right on so many points 👏🏼
Very true man this is on the money
@@JoseRamos-fh6ds thanks g :)
Same
Perfect mix for value and entertainment! I’m currently batching content in this exact style and love the format
I hope it's not dead 😅 Although we dont vlog everyday, we plan daytrips and vlog those adventures! Brand new to all of this, but it's been fun so far!
Vlogs can definitely help build a stronger connection between creators and viewers, but ya doesn't work for everyone! Nice video! :)
Yeah I'm doing the same. I'm a fellow Mama vlogger too.......
Same! I’ve only been vlogging for 2 months but I get most views on my mum daily vlogs. 💕
I’m a new UA-camr, this Chanel has helped me a lot. God bless you
In part, I think it comes down to establishing a specific context around what you want to share on a channel.
I just watched you’re meet and greet vlog, it looks cute ♥️
“No one knows who you are yet” ummm who are these people
I’ve started vlogging on my channel. It’s been a lot of fun to share what I’m doing as a musician and share my story as a hobbit down in little ol’ New Zealand
Thanks for sharing 😆 Really appreciate that ✨
I agree with everything. If the video is focused it works. It’s also easier to do.
as a vlogger and youtuber , i enjoy just telling my story regardless
@@cookiecookielookies so a "public" forum is "ONLY" for people who want to make money... got it :-)
@@FrugalFlyRodder no…it’s for ppl who want to share their content with everyone including strangers…why not make videos and just send it to ur friends and family? U could do a group chat, private Facebook page, etc….
I’m saying THINK MEDIA’S PAGE is for full time creators, so if u don’t care about that, why would u watch their vids that teach u to how to do that. Just post whatever u want….
Stand-up comedy shorts have REALLY helped my channel grow. I still upload some vlogs....but they don't help my channel grow.
Vlogging will never die. There’s still huge UA-camrs getting millions of view’s from vlogs.
Well, let’s hope so
Big name Vlogger already have what we call “HISTORY”
These guys have established a pre-existing community of millions of people who love them and who are ready to support them every way possible.. (if they upload a blank videos it would still get tons of views and tractions)
As a Small vlogger with no history,
no body would be willing to watch a 10 minutes video of you taking a dog to the park.. it maybe fun to you but it technically offers 0 value to the viewer.
@@listed8701 yeah and the fact that they love Kims Vlogs doesn’t also mean they’ll click a random Vlog about some creator who they have nothing to do with
@@ShaneDMCshorts I never said it did…I just said it’s proof that people don’t mind watching vlogs…if you don’t want to put in the work just say that!
