I just had to stop by to comment on how pleasant your videos are! You are so empathetic towards the pups! I love the way you talk to them, reassure them and empathize. All too often I’m watching other grooming videos and it’s unsettling and I’m constantly thinking “please talk to that baby!” You are so kind and caring...♥️ Thank god for groomers like you, your clients are VERY lucky!!
I was a self employed groomer for over 20 years. I refused to torture an old matted dog. It got shaved. Fortunately my customers were great and always made standing appointments. Love watching
I love the words of encouragement, how understanding you are with her and having so much compassion to bibi 🥺 I’m 20 and have now started researching . I love my dogs very much but I will admit I wasn’t educated on how often I should be grooming/brushing/and bathing my dogs so I didn’t do it often. I hardly did and now they have plenty of matts :( I have toy poodles ( their hair is very curly so it tends to knot up way quicker) so I made the decision to shave them down all the way carefully (I didn’t nick them at all . And I made sure to stop every couple of minutes to let them relax and also to let the clipper cool down to avoid burns or irritation . Thank you so much for this perspective of the groomer . ( I always brought my dogs to the groomers after 2-3 months but always a little matted :/) Now I understand the importance and have vowed to brush my dogs hair everyday / teeth & bathe them atleast 1-2 a month. I feel so bad for the times I’ve put my groomers through this and my dog because I really had no idea. :( thankfully now I am , and watching your videos inspired me to groom my own pups carefully and compassionately :) thank you so much
Well, I just gave my standard a bath. I didn’t brush her out because she was just so full of dirt. Since Covid, have bought some shears and we are learning how to this. She doesn’t look professional, but I tell everyone, she is a country girl. Lol great info
Hi, I love this comment. I'm currently working on my husband to get a standard poodle and train him (the dog, not my husband) to be my service dog. I do have a few disabilities where one would be very helpful. I love the breed and I now know how to get away with a wonky haircut. Thank you for the smile, I needed that. From Europe with love. This groomer is outstanding! Her step by step tutorials gave me the confidence to groom my goldendoodles at home during the pandemic, and now, I really enjoy it! Its never perfect - no hydraulic grooming table...just one that is a bit too high for tall dogs...and they don't like being brushed. But somehow, we get thru it and they end up looking pretty good after all. I urge all of you to subscribe to this channel - excellent step by step videos, gentle and kind treatment of the dogs, and lots of doodles. A win-win-win! 👍
I watch a lot of dog groomers and you are so lovely with the dog's. Your work always looks so beautiful 😍 Lucky dog's to come to you. I learn so much. Thank you 😊 💓
Thank you for sharing this video. It was helpful to answer my question. Also it was great to see your scissor work with the blender. Thank you Amy. Your awesome as always..
You explain things so well (and ive watched so many videos from groomers and you honestly are the best at explaining even the little things), I know this is a old video but this is so so helpful as im planning on getting a standard poodle that I can hopefully groom myself for the most part but I would obviously be willing to go to professionals.
Yep, you are my favorite. I’m learning so much from you, and my confidence is growing by the video. I’ve watched some of them five or six times before I made the plunge to get busy. My funny looking black standard of just over four months old is feeling like a king and we are laughing together. I think I might do every other six weeks for the professional hair cut. But I’m gonna continue with the cleaning of the ears. I don’t like how the hemostats pull out to much at a time and hurt. I can’t even watch them do it in videos. And I’m far from a wuss. Just care about my dogs. Thanks again for sharing your skills and helping us out like you do. ✌️👍🇺🇸
Thanks for sharing all your tips. I picked up on two this time. Using the comb to trim and shape the top knot plus the chunkers to blend. I was taught using my curves only. It take way more time , but it was a valued skill to master in my first few years. Now-the goal is to get any stressed dogs thru the process by shortening their time spent there due to all the noise and procedures etc. Even the owners are catching on. Why keep a dog three hours when its unnecessary. Thanks again for sharing your insights.
Thanks for posting this. We are in a bit of a financial set back temporarily, but we have 4 dogs that need grooming and maintenance. You have helped me be able to do this for them
This is a great video definitely a good reminder! Poor baby it's always hard to see the matted dogs especially when they are older. You did an amazing job as always!💗
You are so much better than the first groomer I watched on yt who was doing a mini poodle puppy. She was cold, rough and clinical. I had to stop watching at 3.5 minutes in. You are so calm, caring, precise and educational. Thank you! New sub as well as new Bichpoo puppy mom who will groom at home. Just bought a hammock and needed to see which scissors I need as well as start taking classes. I look forward to your other videos on your channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Love your video, I took my new puppy for his first cut. I wish my Groomer would have told me how to care for my dogs coat. I thought brushing a curly coat causes the mats. I can now be a better owner.
When I got my poodle, I booked straight in with the puppy preschool at the 'big' groomers in my city as I knew they were poodle breeders. Their course claimed that they would teach us how to wash, dry and groom your dog etc. That was my biggest concern, as I'd only had non shedders before. Turns out they just gave everyone a chance to use their self service dog wash tubs, "except for the poodle", they just picked her up and took her out the back and brought her back fluffed (Beautiful, but not what I was there for..).. They went on and on about how difficult it is to care for a poodle coat and that you shouldn't attempt to wash it yourself, citing hot spots and all sorts of issues. I ended up terrified to wash my dog. I brushed her constantly, but was absolutely terrified to wash her myself. I realised after a couple of visits there that they were just after a client, yet never did what I asked, even missed her dew claws twice, then cut off her devil's horns just as they were about to meet in the middle. I've never been back. I am very suspicious of groomers now, have been grooming my girl for 5 years, and am setting up my own dog-wash business moving to grooming as I devour these videos, because I keep hearing of people who don't feel that their groomer listens to them, or that they should be getting better advice. I hope to fill that gap in the market. (I'm in Australia)
I had a darling black doodle just the other day... Her mom hadn't had her groomed for a year and didn't appear to have done any at hime grooming and the poor girl was matted,to the skin, from thr base of her skull to the base of her tail. I tried a 7, ended up on a 10. But she's matt free now 🎉
First time commentor. I love your videos. I have a black russian terrier and I've been building my own home grooming system. Her matts are always much worse than your videos, but she is young an patient. She is just over a year old, so when it gets out of control, I just shave her since it was summer. For this winter I tried to let it just grow, but brushing once a week didn't dematt her enough. The hair is very long hair now, and impossible to brush through. Im excited to try the coconut oil and buys some new brushes (again). I havent washed her in a while because I didnt think her hair was brushed enough. I was scared to make it worse. But, thanks to your videos, I am ready!
Really good information.....thanks for this. I have three Standards, mum, dad and son.....the girl Chloe is a Red/Apricot....and has a coat that is a combination of fine apricot hairs, with varying numbers of red coarser hair throughout....so she is a matt factory. The boys can get away with almost no brushing and a clip every 6 weeks, but Chloe has in addition to her matty coat, a 'gay tail' and being a dominant girl, it is often tightly curled and the tip end can transform into something resembling a worn out paintbrush...her coat usually means a two day job, given breaks. I used to have an awesome groomer.....but we moved a few hundred miles away....so she spent a couple of hours showing me how to groom one of my dogs with lots of hands on. I actually ran the clipper over my own face before using it on my dogs...grin.
I have my poodle puppy now but she HATES being groomed. Seriously....bites the brush, the ties, tries to bite me ( gently now), treats, treats, treats....she'll get it one day. Smart as a whip and adorable. I put her on the grooming table almost everyday for the brushing to get her used to it. Tomorrow is bath and clip day. Thanks for all you do!

Hi Amy, how on earth do you get the hair off the comb of the chunker shear without cutting yourself? I wound up with 3 cuts on my fingers a couple of weeks ago by trying to clean them off (so that I could see what Einstein looked like as I was working on his face).

What would you recommend for matted dogs? We are a dog rescue who takes in a lot of small dogs that are terribly matted. It would really cut down on our cost if we could learn to groom ourselves. I shave my personal dog but clippers don’t go threw matted hair so I end up taking our rescues to a groomer.
I don't understand how people aren't embarrassed to let you see their dog that way! I brush my dog out before she gets groomed. I have a Poodle Westie mix (I'm guessing, waiting on DNA test) still trying to learn how to trim her feet. She pulls and tries to bite me. 🤷♀️ I bought a muzzle but she is still pretty impossible.
Why did you switch to a cordless clipper instead of using the corded one and adding a blade for her face? You have the best dog grooming channel, thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience with us! I have had Standard Poodles for 20+years and have always done my own grooming. You have the best dog grooming channel, thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience with us! I have had Standard Poodles for 20+years and have always done my own grooming. Living in a cold climate during winter, Ara my female SP enjoys a long coat, but it's always fun in the Spring to prep her for our hot summer months! ua-cam.com/video/QASrF1ce7go/v-deo.html

Lo sé 😢.
I have tons of questions now 😂 But you just can’t shave down a pyrshep - well you can, but you shouldn’t 😩🙃
Yes, you should not shave a double coated breed❤️
I have a miniature poodle and he has a tail, where is this dogs tail, was it cruelly docked? What a shame.
Her tail was docked as most poodles in the USA are.
You show a lot of kindness but I think she needed a little water
What about cleaning her ears out? These type of dogs get gunky ears.
