@robertmallette5705 Nowadays, it's best to buy plug and play Android head units. Something like this: amzn.to/3DO4X8y I'm not sure if that is the exact fit for 05 Equinox, but you get the idea. Look around, and you will see plug and play head units for your car.
@@DarkDragonWing I need to put the reverse camera on my equinox, I really liked your work, you can give me the stripe with all the materials to be buying, thank you
Nice clean video. I'm getting ready to put this exact same radio into my 05 Silverado. However, I have a few gotchas like the Bose amplified system and On-Star system. I have to run an interface module like the PAC RP5-GM11 to retain my factory features (On-Star, SWC, Door Chime, etc). Your video has given me some ideas on how I want to tap into my reverse like wire and what to expect from the radio.
let's say this 2 years ago I had never touch car audio it's really easy match color to color threading the wire can be difficult but the installing part is simple read directions and you will get it it beats paying outrageous amounts of money for somebody else to do I know do installs all the time
At around the 6:00 mark, you spliced into the 12v acc wire. Is this for the camera or just for your harness to the stereo? Wouldn't that already be a part of your harness adapter kit? I am about to install this same head unit into my 2008 Mazda CX-9 GT with Bose system.
+Nick Macy Hi. This car's ACC is not included in the radio harness plug. For the camera, I used the backup reverse wire +12v that I spliced from 5:38 Your car should have ACC with the harness plug, other wise you will have to find one like I did.
+The DarkDragonWing Thank you for replying so fast! I will probably just run a wire all the way from the reverse light since I need to tap into it anyway and run a video cable with it (my camera isn't wireless). I think I will need to use the RCA low level (preamp) outputs for my factory Bose speaker system. I'm using a PAC audio RP4-MZ11 RadioPro interface with built in SWC programming and harness specifically for my vehicle. Any thoughts or tips for the Bose stuff as it relates to this vx7020?
+Nick Macy Yes, that would be a good add to it where you keep all or most of the factory features while having the vx7020. As far as the tips, I would say the installation manual is your best help.
Hey, thanks again for replying so quickly! I just finished my installation and everything is working great so far. I ended up using wireless transmitters for my backup camera like yours. They work well so far, just a tiny bit of static, but hardly noticeable. Any troubles with your Equinox camera at all? I'm really enjoying the vx7020!
Thank you for the video. Looking at installing this radio and was wondering if you lost your door/warning chimes or what you did to retain them? Thanks.
+routedworld I actually didn't notice it. I might have lost it. I'll check again sometime. But even if I lost it, I don't see no use of the chime at all.

There's some very good useful info here but a lot of major do nots in car wiring. If your going to go through all the trouble to properly solder all your connections, please use shrink wrap on them as well. Electrical tape is not a safe way to go here. Be very careful when probing wires on any vehicle that uses a data system like the equinox shown. You can very easily damage a computer. Use of a relay would be a safer connection for the reverse wire. Use the reverse wire simply as the trigger and run a fused line from the battery or spare fuse at the fuse block. Again this vehicle uses a data system. Always use a grommet when going through sheet metal. The dum dum putty used will not stop the wire moving and shorting out. Some of these practices used can and will cause a fire eventually. If you must use electrical tape, use tesa tape which is much stronger and offers better insulation factors and will also handle the heat in a vehicle (tesa is designed for use in vehicles including under hood). GL on the next install vid. Hopefully you use better wiring practices than shown here.
