@@thediamondcutter9185 Roughly a bit under a month, around 3 weeks give or take. Zhanhu literally had 600ms chain lights back then so when those finally got those buffed he started making appearances again, but it wasn't until he got his rework that he became normal along with the removal of zone option select.
Man now I don't feel so bad playing Sohei now. The amount of times I went up against people, lost because of me being a Sohei, and Ubisoft deciding to match me up with a bravo team 3 stack, who are playing JJ, Veridian guard, and Ocelotl (random going Highlander) who after winning would send me trash talk messages after winning the game simply because I dared to go up against High A/S tier characters.
The fanbase is so toxic i literally had to make my account private where I can’t even get messages anymore. Like I just play this game high and really casual.
Fh players will really hate on you for anything me and randos destroyed some 4 stack of light spamming vgs and after the game they complained about me dodge attacking so petty
For Honor in present day has like the highest percentage and frequency of frail players I’ve encountered in any game. It’s literally rare to go more than 2-3 matches without someone giving up or disconnecting (I know the servers are ass but a lot of it is very clearly intentional). I’ve even had players crash out and spend entire matches trying and usually failing to be toxic for the sole fact I dared to have an aggressive playstyle with some characters and I actually play the objectives to boost points or stall enemy teams. So essentially getting salt for playing as optimally as I possibly could - it’s like For Honor players don’t like being challenged and forget they’re playing a PvP game. I honestly wish these kind of people would just go to player vs ai where they belong and never come out. They get to have their easy wins and no one has to change their diapers; everyone wins! 🎉
I got 26 reps on the guy as of right now. What I would like is the ability to do his special attack at any level of collected souls and divide the damage based on how many souls he has. So for example, if he has 1 soul, you do 1/6 of the damage, 2 you do 1/3, etc. all the way up to full power.
An easy fix for his gimmick would be : make it 35 damage and for ev ery soul he collects he gets 10 extra damage. meaning you have a lot more control on it and a lot more pressure
That's a decent and valid buff descion. He could use it, but it would reduce the unique minigame he has to just a damage buff that happens in the background. Something people go "oh hey, I have full souls", instead of clambering for the final soul, removing the scrambling fun aspect of collection.
I don’t know I think 35 is a bit high then in that case. I mean it’s super easy enough to get at least a couple of souls, let alone one. I think between 25 and 30 damage per soul would be more appropriate. 35 just seems a bit much, considering it comes from a bash.
@@SkyNinja759 I think it amplifies the mind game. A bit like old shaman but with extra steps. It also means that gettinghit by finishers can be dangerous. But I see where you're coming from, it's less gimmicky inded.
no, that'd make him an EXTREMELY unfun, imagine if cent got a full charge heavy off a KICK, 35 damage on a bash is RIDICULOUS, his gimmick isnt the problem. Its annoying at best, but the real problem is how easy it is to guarantee, and that his heavy's are absolute dogshit and he has no tank perks or feats even though he's one of the tankiest heavy's and the slowest character in the game.
If they end up buffing his base kit damage and nerfing his one shot then they HAVE to take a look at his feats because if Sohei was an actual decent hero his feats would make him busted. The full heal is slept on and a 25% DR as a tier one is absurd. Not to mention buffing his base kit damage would make the feat that increases his overall damage when he has souls turn him into Kyoshin with his tier 1.
@@curtissweeney5211 Chilling stare is a tier 2, it is 15% debuff instead of 25%, and it is on a 120 second cooldown instead of 60. Being able to effectively reduce someones health by 25% every fight you go into is insanely broken to be a tier 1.
I remember someone saying this before (sorry I forgot the name) but if they let Sohei’s weapons do somewhat normal damage after gaining a soul, then that would significantly help him. I believe ontop of this change, they could give him more chains and maybe even extend it to 3 attacks in a chain instead of 2. If they do these two changes and maybe change the sohei stab into a 50 damage move with hyper armor instead of (enter damage number here), same with his healing perk being able to heal 50 health. And give his souls a timer, so you have to time when you use them and you don’t get normal damage the whole game normally. TLDR : + 3 attack chains + weapons with souls do more damage + Sohei Stab gets hyper armor - 50 damage Sohei Stab - 50 damage Soul Heal - new weapon soul mechanic has a timer to prevent souls from being saved indefinitely. Souls can be saved for 20 seconds before dissipating.
yeah this would make him objectively overpowered if they make his attacks do regular damage + the souls, otherwise he'd be shit. His souls are all he has, he needs his base kit improved, the grab isnt the problem, its how easy it is to confirm the grab.
You’ve explained the very mentality that makes sohei work pretty well. “I could either have him hit me 6 times and I lose or have him gb me twice and I lose. So I never go for a parry” means sohei can just spam unblockable into zone into unblockable repeatedly and easily beat you that way. The unblockable does less damage because the gb is so much more threatening so you are bound to land it much more often than your avg unblockable
Yes but the point i also made is that if youre playing sohei and get hit less than 6 times you lost the fight. so you have to hope that you can stay in the offense long enough to get those 6 attacks off
@@RAPTORREX_ You don’t need to get the 7 force strike in order to beat someone. Just the threat of it is enough to make your opponent play more predictably. Like if you’re fighting a warden they’re probably not going to be committing to many lvl 1 bashes since if you dodge it it’ll get you half way to the 95 dmg, while if they land the bash it will only do 15. Also getting souls becomes a lot easier when you incorporate doing a zone when you think your opponent will feint gb. The zone has very low gb vulnerability so their gb will bounce off and you can feint the zone and get a free gb yourself.
4m notification gang. To be honest I think sohei is the only new launch character that I've stuck with but I feel like in 4's sohei struggles cause of teammates ruining the seven soul strike and and in duels or brawls sohei still struggles of your opponent keeps track of each weapon that has a soul charge. Keep it going with the content raptor. Make this video appear on the algorithm ya'll. 🎉
It's crazy that the Ubisoft team will most likely never see this video, you make great points and they need to learn from people that play the game, not just watch it. Amazing video
Raptor i love ur videos so much man i swear i dont smile often these days but when i open yt and see a video of yours on my feed it makes me smile everytime love you bro
Sohei was effectively what killed for honor in my heart. Everything leading up to his release made him look like the perfect character for me, then i played him and realized he was absolutely awful in every way possible
I came into game because of collab with Destiny, saw Sohei, loved his design but when I saw his dmg numbers and saw lot of videos and opinions about him I decided to save steel for somebody else. Maybe if Ubi decides to do something about him I will consider saving steel and buying him but for now there is no way.
I'm very happy to see a For Honor content creator that isn't completely schizophrenic or lost their mind. You sir have definitely gotten me hooked and subbed, looking forward to seeing your channel grow. Looking forward to seeing you improve as well.
The trick with sohei is that youre not actually supposed to use the insta kill and instead hold on to it as much as possible in 4v4s. Because by simply you being there with full souls terrifies the enemies in the team fight/gank. And with his third feat it actually makes your damage on par with the rest so you can hold your ground. Along with the healing one and 1st feat. Baisicly only insta kill when its super necessary like if youre about to die and a new enemy came by.
Not really since in a team fight all it takes is for an enemy or an ally to interrupt your bash and you lose your souls even though the attack didn't go through and for some reason you can be interrupted in many moments in Revenge too for some reason.
@@Ali-cya I didn't say to use it in a team fight or even a gank. I said that when you just finish killing an enemy and then another one shows up. It's when you should use it. But by holding the souls in a team fight you just become a memace.menace. the longer you hold on to them the better.
Always love to hear you complain, and as I've already said, these edits are the best! Hope you keep making this content while enjoying yourself (even though it's For Honor we're talking about). .. Peacekeeper video please?
Sohei improvements. I actually have a few ideas on how to not necessarily fix him but make him more interesting. Obviously he’ll need some damage tweaks to go along with these changes to his fight kit, but here we go. 1: Make it so you can hold down the heavy button when you get a guard break to do a high damaging top heavy with the mallet so you can properly stagger heavies with allies. 2: Allow him to soft-feint his zone into his undodgeable top light for more mix-up potential. 3: Increase the forward range of his fork. 4: And like you said, increase the hitbox of his saw. I’m sure I could come up with more, but that it for now.
Imagine if Sohei was hypothetically combined with Hitokiri, keep the soul and mask stuff, remove the multiple weapons, and give them a historically accurate Masakari/Ono axe. They feel like two halves of the ultimate (Hard) Heavy.
I agree with your adjustments, I'd just add that he needs a L H, and H L combo to make him smoother. It doesn't have to give Sohei souls but make him feel a little smoother. We've already seen with someone like LB that adding a combo or 2 makes a character more fun and less stiff or samey
another idea is, they could make the weapons "activate" when you hit an enemy allowing each weapon to either do more damage or enhance their gimmick like increasing soul saw's bleed or give hyper armor on the mallet strike
TBH SOHEI is a very interesting character but yes, his lights do little damage and his side dodge attacks are very reactable. I'm currently at REP 3 with him, his most viable options are light/heavy plus zone attack (hyperarmor) and then spam that shit until the opponent becomes too pressured and tries to parry it, then you guardbreak. He really need some more combos when it comes to his 6 other weapons. Maybe a soft feint from his slow heavies into a light or guardbreak. His zones could also get soft feint into a light
I hate how the cross naginata is his only customizable weapon. I was so hyped for some unique weapon customisation for his stances (back when we thought he would have stances like medjay or highlander)
i think a way to rework him is to allow him to do a heavy light or light heavy move but he doesn't get a soul for it if he wants to get a soul he'll need to go all in on the light light or heavy heavy and change his second feat to a heal burst around him for 50 health so it will help his team
I’ve been making a rework on him for a bit genuinely trying to balance it (given the devs have actually said multiple times they pull from Reddit and other community sources for ideas for the game) it’s fun to do as a hobby but if the devs see and decide to make any changes based on it that’d be amazing
Something I think they could do if they didn’t want to change his finisher heavy damage, is give him a free finisher light after a finisher heavy that does like 4 damage. That way he still does around normal damage on finisher heavies, and has an easier way to get souls without having to spam gbs.
List of things to make him better without tarnishing his identity. -make his finishing lights enhanced, make him have more of a presence in team fights cause his up time on his in chain zone will be higher. -make his opener heavies have hyper armor -make both his opener and finisher heavies faster -and up his dmg by a little bit, not a lot, but a little bit. These would make him someone to be worried about in team fights I think. And people need to realize that this is a hero that can't be OP, cause if he was, he would feel worse to deal with than all the other new heros combined(imo of course)
yeah he just needs tank feats and perks and to have hyper armor and 30 damage neutral heavy's, make him able to chain into heavy's off lights, remove the opener light being superior and instead make his combo lights superior. And make his zone undodgable instead of hyper armor'd. And remove the bash off heavy parry, shit was dumb.
It really is a shame. A sohei character is something I’ve hoped for since launch and him being a huge dude based on Benkei is so cool. It’s just sad he’s such a clunky gimmick character.
So how I would change him is first remove the T3 feat that gives him a 25% damage boost with all souls and give him the damage as a base. When he gets souls, it reduces his damage. At 2 souls -10%, 4 - 20% and 6 -25%. He should also be able to use his heal and big attack when he has 2, 4 or 6 souls. But it must be an even number of light and heavy weapons. 2 souls heal for 20% and the attack does 30 damage. 4 souls heal for 50% and the attack does 40 damage. 6 souls heal for 80% and the attack does 65 damage. I know it make him a bit more complicated, but i think it also makes him more interesting.
My bois had a perfect character oportunity, sick design and 7 or idk how many weapons. They could make him have a stance with different attacks. But we got just a different animation on each attack instead. Yeah and a one shotting ability that 80% of time is just come to a 1v1 and delete your opponent. Its just feats like long bow, but short ranged and kills on hit xd
The only thing I can be sure about when it comes to Sohei, he NEEDS hyper armor on his heavy openers. They deal way too little damage for how painfully slow they are, they really have nothing going for them
I think either sohei either needs damage reworks or ubisoft needs to double down on the soul gimmick. I see one of two ways if they choose the soul gimmick. 1 they make the one shot be a move that can use as many souls as sohei has. This has the advantage of padding his damage and people being more wary of the bash instead of just eatting it because the bash becomes only really a threat when he has 6 souls. This does, however, make the original one shot useless because no one will want to wait to use the one shot when they can just use 3 souls after a guard break to do decent damage. The other way is to make the weapons become "empowered" when they have souls. The attacks would have different properties depending on the weapon i.e. the left side heavy finisher have better cleave. This has the strength of making him a character with now 2 gimmicks that play off of each other. The problem with this is now sohei becomes uber complicated, and the dev team would have to more than likely make new animations. All in all, the best bet would be damage reworking.
I never thought of "empowering" the weapons. That's a really good idea. Either you use the empowering weapon to do good damage and forgo soul collection, or you use a new weapon and generate it's soul. That's a decent tradeoff within the collection gimmick. The problem would stem with Sohei players boiling down his best 50:50 and only using that in the rotation. Similar to how we see top light spam for the undodgeable property and top heavy for the extra 2 damage. It would make him even more of a GB fisherman because people would be incentivised to get 2 souls, then fish the other 4 while doing the empowered damage. Like you said, it complicates future balancing and Ubisoft aren't known for good balancing, let alone taking into account a nuisanced gimmick.
I know a big problem with him is I’ll guard break someone to do my soul stacks then my teammate comes in and smacks the opponent and feed revenge so now not only do I lose stacks but lose the moment of the fight. This character doesn’t feel good in team fights and I feel punished for trying to play him an it doesn’t help his freaking heavy attacks take so long to wind up that I either just get guard broken or smacked an stunned
i love being able to have infinite hp in anti ganks, his “gimmick” of souls being able to do big damage or heal you is very fun to use, the attack buff making it ok to hold on to your souls for a while. but the big thing i like is the tier two. better to save the big damage for when you get revenge and need to use it than pop it on a full hp player when your in a 2v1 in ur favor, obviously more value. different playstyles, he definitely isnt s tier, but could be a tier in the right hands. same with other heros
Honestly, the historical person he's based off of. Requires that he be buffed. Benkei's story is littteraly the stuff of legend. His virtual incarnation should also be just as hardcore.
I’d like if Sohei’s weapons were more relevant to For Honor, like from what I’ve seen of his lore the weapons are meant to contain the souls of noteworthy opponents, imagine how cool it’d be if they were based on some of the other heroes’ weapons (for example, the stabby-piercing-thing could be the head of gladiator’s trident)
dude the other day i fought a sohei in dom for like genuinely 3 minutes cause he kept getting his soul heal. he's BAD but oh my GOD he's tanky and annoying
How Sohei should be buffed: give him the Afree treatment. Each attack should have a different property that's meaningful. For his top attacks, they both should be unblockable. Yes, that means the light should be unblockable too but keep it's damage as it is right now. Making the top attacks the 1v1 light:heavy mixup like Zhanhu's gameplan. Possibly make the heavy stagger opponents directly backwards so he can get wall punish followup zones off, the dodge forward gimmick nuke at full power with a wall stagger or just better zone extension pressure without a wall because the opponent is in stagger (would help his teamfight presence as well to setup teammate heavies). His left attacks should be his sweeping attacks. Both should have really generous hitboxes, to the point where Ubisoft should make his heavy animation reach out further to prevent phantom hitboxes (like a lot of heroes have now after multiple hitbox buffs). This way he has atleast a little teamfight presence, even if it's just mashing zone > left heavy or left light > zone > repeat. If they're not going to buff these attack's hitboxes then have his zone have hyperarmour no matter what, give it the Warlord treatment where even as a starter Sohei gets decent armour on the attack to trade with opponents. Right attacks being teamfight setup is a great concept. The right heavy is fine as it is as ling as Sohei gets a universal damage buff, although the light isn't in a good spot. Give the light the undodgeable property of his old top light to compensate. Sohei needs a way to punish dodge attacks and it being from the side that gives the least pressure/threat in a 1v1 makes sense. Possibly make the light a short skewer as well, it would be an external dodge catcher in teamfights but with a shorter skewer animation (somewhere between a standard light hitstun and a heavy hitstun). Then we need to address his guardbreak game. Even though it's part of his identity now, fishung for 2 GBs to get full power throws out his mini-game and dumbs the hero down too much. There's two routes we can go; either reduce the damage of the gimmick one shot to ~50-70 and leave the 3 soul GB (so along with the buffs he's a decent character) or keep the high base 90 attack but remove the unique GB punish. Both are valid avenues of design. My opinion is to remove the 3 soul GB. This way it is more straightforward to tweak Sohei in the future. Not having to worry about balancing a GB that is suppsoe to be three times the value of his base rotation. Instead Sohei gets enough time to do any one followup in his kit, this means any heavy or light. This would lean into the player choosing what weapon soul they want to collect and along with the top heavy and right heavy changes above either a situational wall stagger or skewer for combos. Finally, give him a decent blanket damages numbers buff. He doesn't deserve the single digit lights (minus maybe the new oppressive unblockable top light bonk I suggest, but thats a anti-turtle attack by design). Buffing up his lights to the 10-12 range and his heavies to ~22 would be a good start and should be tweaked over a couple consecutive patches.
I feel Sohei would be better if they actually made him a economy based hero and instead of just getting souls to get a one shot you have to manage your souls to gain buffs or get more moves with more intricate chains or you could spend your souls on other mechanics like his 2nd feat could be added to his actual kit and instead of healing to max it healed like 30 hp and cleansed
Something I thought when I first saw it, I thought he would do a stronger blow if he has the souls, not a fking one shot lmao, it could be awesome to give him stronger blows for a limited time but not an entire one shot
Slanderous actually made a very good video about a Sohei rework, you should watch it. He suggested they gave him 2 stances, one for Spear and the other for the souls.
I have grinded him to rep 20 and it took a whilst to find an okay way to play him in which I could actually survive a 1v1 and sometime 1v2 the moment I played someone else I couldn’t get back into playing him and I’m burnt out from just the thought of playing him now
Personally, I think Sohei needs a lot of adjustments to his kit that a simple buff or change won't provide. For how I view Sohei, he has change suggestions that could conflict with some parts of his current kit that could make that move useless. For example, I see people provide suggestions for Sohei having a proper light heavy chain. However, that would make his zone really redundant to use in duels and still have the same issues that it has in teamfights. I'm not saying the zone would be bad since it would still be decent, but the suggestion wouldn't fix the problems that he has in teamfights and is mostly catered towards duels. I believe Sohei's main problems that he has are damage, chain options, overall mixup, and feats. Damage is pretty shitty for Sohei, with the exception of his nuke option (the Seven Soul Strike, I believe it's called). All of his damage is being compensated for his nuke option, something that requires all soul stacks to perform. While this nuke option does the most damage in his kit (and can be amplified with feats), it is also the worst or best option to throw out in a teamfight. Mainly due to the fact that it can be interrupted by teammates (if they're stupid) or enemies trying to prevent the attack, but with a good setup by teammates, it can be powerful. His chain options are very limited. He can only go light light/zone or heavy heavy/zone. His dodge attacks have light and heavy variants, but they still go to the very same chain options depending on if it was a light or a heavy. His zone is his only flexible option to light or heavy, but it has its own problems. The worst part is that his neutral options and chain zone are his best external options that can easily be interrupted or peeled against. His mix-ups are really bad for these reasons. Low damage, scary guardbreak option, can practically external Sohei like a PK or Nobu (if her undodgable was shit damage), and predictable options. Low damage and scary gb options are two bad combinations as you, Raptor, had explained in the video. Each of Sohei's options are predictable due to you only having to either block the light, deal with low damage UB Heavy, or both, which is not even good considering that you can just external him like a PK with no bleed applied. Sohei will have a hard time trying to acquire his soul stacks just because of his mix-up issues. Then there are the feats, something that I believe can't go unadjusted should Sohei receive adjustments on his damage. Both his Tier 1 and Tier 3 unique feat adjust his damage by applying a defense debuff (Feat 1) or buffs his damage when he has all six souls (Feat 3). Not only that, his Tier 2 is a full heal when you have all 6 souls active, which his Tier 4 could immediately give him all his soul stacks. Should damage adjustments happen without adjusting Sohei's unique feats, it would result in Sohei prioritizing maintaining his soul stacks for his feats rather than his actual gimmick. In other words, that nuke option would see no good play other than pressure until someone gets used to it or forces you to heal back to full. I believe Sohei needs a full-on Rework, no questions asked. He has too many problems that needs to be dealt with as I had explained. I like his concept and idea, just not the execution of the gimmick playstyle. I have an idea of how I would rework Sohei, but this comment would be way too long. But my idea would be to give Sohei more damage, more chain options for light, heavy, and zone, change his guardbreak options to be less but still threatening, and adjust the feats to something still good for have but would encourage to also go for the nuke option as well. If you took the time to read this, I'm impressed, sorry, and thank you for your time. I hope you have a Good Day :)
Sohei is a fun hero but for me times the moment i finally get all my souls and is about to use my 'one shot' (which isnt actually a one shot) it gets interupted 80% of the time by my own team. Hopeful they do something for this but that might be too much
His stab should do 40 max tbh if they balance the rest of his damage. They took shamans 50 damage bite, kenseis beefy overhead unblockable, jorms ball smash, and made hitokiris 4th laughable unless you have someone to hold them still. Edit: they nerfed the damage of everyone but these heroes you can definitely feel it in.
Hear me out, what if they designed it to work off of being locked on like revenge? So long as you’re locked onto an opponent, you keep your souls. But if you remain unlocked for X amount of time, you lose each soul one by one until none or left unless you lock onto someone. Could be an interesting way to handle it.
for once i totally agree with the damage i've been saying that since day one that i liked the whole kit and pure gimmick idea, but the damage overall was a mistake in my opinion. only other thing i think is allow light and heavy combo rather than light, light; and heavy, heavy
I returned to For Honor after 4 years only to see a fourth faction, every character being given a dodge attack, and the newest hero batting you around with his paper mache weapons only to do a one-shot. I'm a Lawbringer main. It's just suffering here.
The fact that they ruined lawbringer doesn't help I'm sure. No more impale, and you can light, light, and spam shove. How are you liking medjaybringer?
@@51TD0wN they didnt remove anything, they just gave him more options. If having a more diverse kit makes him ruined, maybe u didnt like him but just liked him being an underdog.
@duckyduckington9736 There is no such thing as an "objectively" best state for a hero. All of this is subjective, and as a rep 80 lawbringer, I disagree with that. Not only was he stronger before, but he was also more interesting to play. This version of lawbringer is bland as fuck and has nothing to stand out from the other heroes.
@@51TD0wN you're an absolute fucking moron if you think pre rework lawbringer was better, and no player in high skill levels would agree with you. Because he just wasnt good, and thats just the truth. He was an underdog and felt satisfying to win with, but he did NOT fit into for honor anymore. He used to at one point be objectively busted, but thats not where he is rn.
They should do an Operation Health season but for For Honor so they can actually tweak/rework the broken heroes and actually improve the game rather than just bloating the game by adding more op heroes and not fixing the older ones
sadly i think it wouldnt help although i like where your heads at. for honors and old ass game with some shitty coding job so if they truly want to fix things they need to make a second game
@RAPTORREX_ sadly I think that's less probable than a "Operation Health" type season because 1. Ubisoft barely puts any money into the game to begin with and 2. Siege only gets these massive updates because it was revived by Jynxzi and other streamers while For Honor streamers and UA-camrs are usually small and niche even the big ones like Havoc
My fix would be simple Nerf his 95dmg attack to 40dmg This is inline with shaman bite and jorms slam if not slightly stronger. With the 2 dmg buff you get you should be able to still do huge dmg. Just not a full 110+ dmg that you can do now. That's just too much dmg from a non a single attack. Nerfing that move will allow them to buff his dmg. But also give this man atk chains light light heavy Light heavy light etc
Can we mention that the oneshot is not useful? In a 1v1, by the time you get it, it is better to heal yourself with an execution and in a group fight that oneshot leaves only one enemy that can be revived. Or worse, that can be revived with an ability.
I would honestly say it started to go down sense marching fire. Tho it was slow back then and went faster with BP sense we got that amazing feat we can't get enough of. Sohei was an interesting hero and i did enjoy it, tho i only did pve because of how bad he would be in pvp.
I actually play sohei different, despite his bad damage people and the fact people keep doing the same thing, i just do the exact opposite focusing on the damage and not the one shot
Tbh I don't really have to worry about the whole "is my opponent having fun?" Because I don't play against people. If I were to play against people I would be the one NOT having fun
I rarely play in 4s, so my opinions are mostly going to be centered around duels, but I really feel the biggest problem that makes Sohei a nightmare to balance properly is his gb punish. The fact that 2 gbs + 1 parry = 113 dmg is a big reason why the rest of his damage can't be good. While nerfing the one-shot would help, it still doesnt fix this problem by much, since if the damage is good, its too much, if the damage is bad, its useless, and if it's just okay, why bother? I think it would be interesting if Sohei instead had a special move where he does the poke for a single weapon, and counts as an opener for that damage type, allowing you to chain into another weapon attack. This special punish could be used for a gb or parry punish (yes, heavy soul on heavy parry). Under this framework, I feel it would be much more viable to buff his damage overall Edit: For the purposes of not nerfing light parries, maybe the special attack could be a follow-up from a parry bash (anim like lb shove or jj kick maybe). The parry bash could also maybe go into 7-point strike, since you get that on heavy parry anyway, and maybe that could also be a follow-up on gb as well, since getting 7-point on a heavy parry but not a gb is kinda goofy. Also, I recognize it would be a nightmare to make good animations for this
While sohei is pretty weak he’s definitely a good starting step for a change in ubi’s hero design policy, I’d rather keep getting different “sohei” type heroes with the next releases than Ubisoft releasing op power creep characters like ocelotl and vg. Hopefully they give the big Asian man some buffs soon though he definitely needs them
Just played this dude today for like 8 games, I have a rhythm with him, I know how to parry and just do 1 guard break for this guy, his lights are fast, catch dodges and dodge attacks and his top one is the same with literal tracking, as long as you get the heavy guard break move out of the way you’ll probably win your fight. I agree his light parry top heavy should do more damage but ehh I really don’t think all his damage needs a change, cuz I slap with Sohei, they buff this character and I’m gonna be bullying people but i genuinely don’t like playing broken characters for the pure reason that they’re not fair, they buff him I’m not playing him anymore
As much as everyone dunks on him I think he’s one of the most unique characters that have come out in recent time with his whole soul mechanic, especially after the failure that was Verandian Guard.
Ya know sohei honestly needs hyper armour because besides his mid chain zone, you can interrupt him everywhere, so you don't even need to engage sohei when you can just light him every time he merely thinks about attacking. Besides damage the fact that this big HEAVY cant force people to trade is some B.S.
Sohei needs tank feats and perks, needs hyper armor on his neutral heavy's and his zone needs to be undodgable instead of hyper armor'd, make his opener lights NOT superior, but the chain lights instead. And let him chain into a heavy off a light. It'd make him flow better and not be just lawbringer all over again.
Shinobi does 20 damage on a light parry heavys 20 damage chain heavy also 20 damage a heavy followed up with a light is 24 damage 4 damage from the light thats balanced
gimmicks for sure. there needs to be heros that excell in some things and struggle with others. cent is a good team fighter with good damage but struggles against people who have dodge cancels. and then you have a hero like nobushi who can easily counter dodge cancels but struggles to open people up.
@RAPTORREX_ here's the way I see it. We definitely need gimmick heros, but it needs to be more in line with other fighting games. Where their kit has the tools to get to the gimmick while staying true to the games formula. Potemkin from Guilty Gear is a great example. Potemkin is THE grappler. He gets in your face and grabs. His kit is then built to keep you in block stun and he has a couple of unsafe moves to close the distance. Thus creating the gameplay loop of, "I managed to get in and grab, now I have to manage to get in and do it again". The problem is, for honor does base kit then gimmick on vert few heros so the all around win characters make gimmicks weak
@@RAPTORREX_ What are your thoughts on giving characters that used to have gimmicks what they used to have like Shugo's passive armor and Jorm's stamina bullying? I've watched your vids on them but do you think they could be returned in a balanced state or would it be impossible to do it without them just either being Sohei levels of bad or busted
Much rather have gimmicks but Ubisoft keeps touching the franks red hot of gimmicks. I love that sh*t on all my pve games but not PVP games/game modes.
Should've made the title "So hei, this character sucks" Also, the first broken hero released was Lawbringer, after launch it was Centurion, not pirate.

Don't be a part of the problem. You are NOT the only solo queuing player with bad luck. DON'T be the next shitty match for someone else. "Be better"
yeah some people really just try to shit on you simply for being their opponent.
I fw that
An easy fix for his gimmick would be : make it 35 damage and for ev ery soul he collects he gets 10 extra damage. meaning you have a lot more control on it and a lot more pressure
@@garrettroller1924 Oh yeah sure 25 is fine too, I basically just did 95 - 6 souls for about 10 damage per soul that's it ^^
@@SkyNinja759 I think it amplifies the mind game.
The tier one isn't that bad. I mean, look at kensei's chilling stare. That shit is very strong and affects multiple people.
@@curtissweeney5211 Chilling stare is a tier 2, it is 15% debuff instead of 25%, and it is on a 120 second cooldown instead of 60. Being able to effectively reduce someones health by 25% every fight you go into is insanely broken to be a tier 1.
@roamdhong it's only 15%? fair enough! I thought it 25% like sohei's tier 1.
I do love when raptorrex posts
i love when you comment
I remember someone saying this before (sorry I forgot the name) but if they let Sohei’s weapons do somewhat normal damage after gaining a soul, then that would significantly help him. I believe ontop of this change, they could give him more chains and maybe even extend it to 3 attacks in a chain instead of 2. If they do these two changes and maybe change the sohei stab into a 50 damage move with hyper armor instead of (enter damage number here), same with his healing perk being able to heal 50 health. And give his souls a timer, so you have to time when you use them and you don’t get normal damage the whole game normally.
TLDR :
+ 3 attack chains
+ weapons with souls do more damage
+ Sohei Stab gets hyper armor
- 50 damage Sohei Stab
- 50 damage Soul Heal
- new weapon soul mechanic has a timer to prevent souls from being saved indefinitely.
This is one of the few videos I completely entirely agree with you on every point.

Maybe if Ubi decides to do something about him I will consider saving steel and buying him but for now there is no way.
everything you said is exactly what i was saying when he was being teased and came out
I'm very happy to see a For Honor content creator that isn't completely schizophrenic or lost their mind.
I like playing Sohei and have fun playing as him despite his problems, such as the hated one-shot grab, poor overall damage, and weak moveset.

Damn this editing is great.
Sohei till the wheels fall off.
Imagine if Sohei was hypothetically combined with Hitokiri, keep the soul and mask stuff, remove the multiple weapons, and give them a historically accurate Masakari/Ono axe. They feel like two halves of the ultimate (Hard) Heavy.
If he could chain into sets i wouldn't be mad @ it
I agree with your adjustments, I'd just add that he needs a L H, and H L combo to make him smoother.
Lucky enough to have caught the stream, still couldn’t pay me to get more than one rep on Sohei
His zones could also get soft feint into a light
seeing this game still being around is both cool and exhausting..........eh maybe ill jump back in
I hate how the cross naginata is his only customizable weapon. I was so hyped for some unique weapon customisation for his stances (back when we thought he would have stances like medjay or highlander)
4000 hours on sword game is diabolical raptor
i think a way to rework him is to allow him to do a heavy light or light heavy move but he doesn't get a soul for it if he wants to get a soul he'll need to go all in on the light light or heavy heavy and change his second feat to a heal burst around him for 50 health so it will help his team
I have 8 reps on sohei, and I have a great time with him... as long as my opponent's IQ is lower than my damage output
SOHEI is one of those characters who needed infinite combos like Shaolin. The only fix for viability for fun for me is to link his lights and heavies.
Live by the gimmick die by the gimmick
I would like a light into heavy and heavy into light
List of things to make him better without tarnishing his identity.
-make his finishing lights enhanced, make him have more of a presence in team fights cause his up time on his in chain zone will be higher.
-make his opener heavies have hyper armor
-make both his opener and finisher heavies faster
-and up his dmg by a little bit, not a lot, but a little bit.
These would make him someone to be worried about in team fights I think. And people need to realize that this is a hero that can't be OP, cause if he was, he would feel worse to deal with than all the other new heros combined(imo of course)

And remove the bash off heavy parry, shit was dumb.
It really is a shame. A sohei character is something I’ve hoped for since launch and him being a huge dude based on Benkei is so cool. It’s just sad he’s such a clunky gimmick character.
literally one of the first heroes Ubi released for For Honor was busted. Does anyone remember day 1 Centurion and his infamous cutscene?
HE POSTED LES GOOOO
Finally Ubisoft added a character for cbt enjoyers, bless them
for honor is a game where you enjoy the game by suffering one way or another
10 reps on sohei was the worst decision I ever made
I know a big problem with him is I’ll guard break someone to do my soul stacks then my teammate comes in and smacks the opponent and feed revenge so now not only do I lose stacks but lose the moment of the fight.
I was getting ready to make a comment about who Sohei is based on, I’m about to go read about him.
your soul count should vary depending on who you're locked onto and if you've gained souls from them or not
He's a beast in breech and competitive in duels
He's extremely MU dependent in duels. Unless you know the hero you're going to fight, you shouldn't pick him.
Side note, his opener heavies need some level of hyper armour, cause Christ are they dogshit

Probably was me lol I was doing that non stop the other day and it took three people to kill me when I was on a roll
he immediately fumbles if people fight him properly.
Buffing up his lights to the 10-12 range and his heavies to ~22 would be a good start and should be tweaked over a couple consecutive patches.
no.

I have grinded him to rep 20 and it took a whilst to find an okay way to play him in which I could actually survive a 1v1 and sometime 1v2 the moment I played someone else I couldn’t get back into playing him and I’m burnt out from just the thought of playing him now
Noticed you didn't mention heavy>light (and vice versa) like a lot of others, do you think it's a bad idea or did you just not mention it?
i did have a part of the video talking about it. in all honesty i didnt see a way to make it funny or interesting so i excluded it
@@RAPTORREX_ yeah fair enough, what were your thoughts on it
someone said if you could use his gimmick on like even 1 or 2 souls but that redusces the dmg he would be nice too not waiting for 6 souls

All I got to say is they need to give him a good mix ups and I agree about the damage but 75 sounds better but that's me
Hear me out, what if they designed it to work off of being locked on like revenge?
So long as you’re locked onto an opponent, you keep your souls. But if you remain unlocked for X amount of time, you lose each soul one by one until none or left unless you lock onto someone. Could be an interesting way to handle it.
for once i totally agree with the damage i've been saying that since day one that i liked the whole kit and pure gimmick idea, but the damage overall was a mistake in my opinion. only other thing i think is allow light and heavy combo rather than light, light; and heavy, heavy
Rawr ah
I returned to For Honor after 4 years only to see a fourth faction, every character being given a dodge attack, and the newest hero batting you around with his paper mache weapons only to do a one-shot.
I'm a Lawbringer main. It's just suffering here.
The fact that they ruined lawbringer doesn't help I'm sure. No more impale, and you can light, light, and spam shove. How are you liking medjaybringer?
lawbringer is objectively at the 2nd best state he's been in. He's extremely good now and actually has good mix ups and is fun to play.
You should do warlord next
My fix would be simple
Nerf his 95dmg attack to 40dmg
This is inline with shaman bite and jorms slam if not slightly stronger.
With the 2 dmg buff you get you should be able to still do huge dmg. Just not a full 110+ dmg that you can do now.
That's just too much dmg from a non a single attack.
Nerfing that move will allow them to buff his dmg.
But also give this man atk chains
light light heavy
Light heavy light etc
FAILURE!??? he's like one of the only people i ENJOY fighting :(
If I could just change the gender on these characters in for honor, I’d immediately be happier 10 times over… :(
Tbh I don't really have to worry about the whole "is my opponent having fun?" Because I don't play against people.
Under this framework, I feel it would be much more viable to buff his damage overall
Edit: For the purposes of not nerfing light parries, maybe the special attack could be a follow-up from a parry bash (anim like lb shove or jj kick maybe).
No one is arguing he isn't unique. EVERYONE IS SAYING HIS GIMMICK DOES *NOT* BELONG IN THIS GAME.
He's not bad there's just easier characters to play. Why use your brain when you can just press button? META META
Shinobi does 20 damage on a light parry heavys 20 damage chain heavy also 20 damage a heavy followed up with a light is 24 damage 4 damage from the light thats balanced
he does 24 on a light parry, his zone remember?
@@duckyduckington9736 not anymore unless its the full zone that u dont do
Question, would you prefer characters with gimmicks like Sohei going forward or generalists like the Outlanders that can do everything
gimmicks for sure. there needs to be heros that excell in some things and struggle with others. cent is a good team fighter with good damage but struggles against people who have dodge cancels. and then you have a hero like nobushi who can easily counter dodge cancels but struggles to open people up.
Should've made the title "So hei, this character sucks"
Also, the first broken hero released was Lawbringer, after launch it was Centurion, not pirate.
