I still don't know what mastering is. His explanation really wasn't that great.
The title wasn't "What is mastering" but bottom line: Making all the tracks match together soundwise/levelwise. Correcting some problems with the mix (ie: too bassy, muddy or not enough mid or high). Conversion to 44/16 with dithering and whatnot. Getting the Master CD ready. Making the MP3s and FLAC. Making it louder. Assuring fidelity across multiple playing devices...
