Excellent continuation of this brilliant fortification ,thanks a lot guys, , and if you followed the chain around the fort you'd find a plug on the end of it, lol.
Gee a lot of thought was put into building it in the first place for ww1, the brick work looks top notch too. Hey thanks guys for going that little extra to get the footage. atb from NZ
I think that butterfly might've been a sentry who manned the battery, in a past life. He he. Thanks for sharing your adventures again, looking forward to the next exploration documentary. 👍
Outstanding job Ian really loved it!! What a interesting place. You wonder what those guys chatted about in there. What did they do in the down time ect ect. Also that original path you walked on wow all the soldiers that walked along there as well years ago. 👍🏻👍🏻 outstanding!!
Love this place i have seen this on many other explorer's vids but no one did the lower level like u did i just saw it on sub exploration and on exploren with fighters and love all the differences u all show keep it up Ian and Chris
2nd comment, I expected this to be out at 10:00 and then I realised I had to wait another hour because I forgot about the time difference between England and Germany, great explore :) I'm going back home today so my uploads will resume by the way
That's my ladder nice one for putting it back haha fantastic work as normal learnt so much don't know when I will catch up with your vids but enjoying trying keep up with the good work lads
nice exploration. the holes on the wall at the base level of the shell hoist would be "Kenyon doors" which because the gun would be a bag charge type would be used to avoid explosion flash from propagating from one room to another.
The chain is secured round the fort and runs across the estuary to the other side to another fixing. It was a giant boom rigged up to stop enemy vessels traveling further upstream .
Really good video once again... You guys should come to Chorley Lancashire there loads of hidden bunkers up there and the bae systems factory what goes in to the hills what they claim is abondend since ww2 but there's still sercurity what patrol the area
I cannot find the first 2 videos ! What is up with ? It also says click here for part 1 ! But click where as I cannot seem to find the spot ! I would love to see the start clear to the end of all of the videos for this set !
quite a common misconception about that butterfly that attacked you it actually is a emofly they stay in dark cold wet places and attack anything that sounds or looks positive
Need checkout Cleethorpes 2 forts on the river humber used in the war both forts pull a big chain net to prevent submarines from getting up the humber estuary sadly only accessible by boat. Was rumours gonna make one into a hotel.
it would be really interesting if you could get a interview with some of the people who worked at some of the sites you go to. please try. would love it if you has the talk over the videos there must be some old people who would love to tell a story. if you could find someone who was in war time on this video . that will be the best video on you tube about the places you go to.. thanks
Grain Tower found an additional purpose as one end of a boom defence stretching across the Medway to Sheerness. The massive iron chain from the boom is still present, wrapped around the base of the tower. A fixed timber section of the boom stood between the tower and the shoreline.
During the Second World War much bigger changes were made when the tower became the location, in 1939, for a twin 6-pdr. QF gun. A large roofed concrete emplacement was constructed on the roof to house the gun with a tall directing tower at its rear. A Defence Electric Light Emplacement was also added to the fabric of Grain Tower. At the tower's rear, a brick and concrete barrack block standing on stilts was constructed to house the gun detachment. It is a freestanding structure but is connected to the tower via catwalks.[3] In 1944 the tower was reduced to care and maintenance status before being decommissioned in 1956.
hi, which go pro camera are you using, i recently purchased the go pro hero 4 and its camera was awful and did not record like your camera is doing here, i want a camera like yours for a movie im making, thks and keep the new uploads coming!
if i was a multi millionaire i would love to buy and have this place refurbished to live in, but keeping a lot of the original quirks and features like the loading pulley system
like your videos and your style of presentation as well as the main topic of exploring abandoned places ... dunno if you agree with me though that a relatively long and sketchy video like this one does require selective editing to shorten it to say about 15 minutes at the most so that it'll be even more interesting ... had to set the play speed @ X1.25 to save a little time ...
Stephen M the point is i don't watch commercial TV and the occasional times i do, i know how to switch between two or more channels with actual content whenever one starts showing those stupid ads! but i usually avoid repeated spoiled ads not the good ones because i do love some ads that are made by truly clever and smart people who do know how to tell a long story in a short time! quality doesn't always come through quantity really! (no one reads multiple volumes of War And Peace these days ...) besides, if you do want more footage on topics like this, then this particular video at least had more wasted time in it than showing useful material ... the same gentleman's other videos are mostly 10 to 15 minutes long and much better than this one ... oops, sorry, your comment wasn't addressed @ me? it's ok ... just like you, sometimes i love to talk to myself too! ;-) cheers
I would love to buy a piece of land with something like this on it and restore it. Though I think that fort is a little past being restorable looking at some of those supports going up into the tower.
I would be careful entering basements or other confined spaces like that. If the oxygen level is low you wont notice anything before you drop down and die. I guess no one is going to find you either! You should bring a oxygen monitor next time. Great video anyway :)
Your videos have taught me so much more about British history than my history teacher
I'm surprised how much stuff has fallen into the water of the flooded section! Loving this series!
Thanks Guys another great adventure.
Thanks for taking us along with you, this was a really neat place!
Great explore! That butterfly...!
Thanks guys, nice one, its a shame that history like this is just left to rot away.
Great place, it should be restored i think. Greetings from the Netherlands. Thanks lads!
You can also restore places to show all the hisotory connected to it is what i mean. Now there is jus decay.
Well done guys - great 3 part video
Great videos. I really enjoyed watching the 3 episodes of grain tower

The butterfly was attracted to the light. Interesting film
Excellent continuation of this brilliant fortification ,thanks a lot guys, , and if you followed the chain around the fort you'd find a plug on the end of it, lol.

great stuff Ian keep it up ..
'Pretty much maxed them out' genius comment about your welly boots!
That wall in the basement next to the ladder, I love how they took the trouble to use rounded bricks for the corner, even down there!
Love this place, thanks.
This has been an amazing 3 part series. Looking forward to any other large places that you can visit where you can do the same again :)
By the way, wouldn't that be a moth attracted to the light?
Love your work, lads. Thanks for the tour of a very interesting fortification.
Great videos .... stay safe !

Fantastic video, I have still got my Sony Handtcam, its a shame some people some people damage these abandoned towers.
Gee a lot of thought was put into building it in the first place for ww1, the brick work looks top notch too. Hey thanks guys for going that little extra to get the footage. atb from NZ

nice exploration. the holes on the wall at the base level of the shell hoist would be "Kenyon doors" which because the gun would be a bag charge type would be used to avoid explosion flash from propagating from one room to another.

Love these videos, good work! :)
+Falklang thanks for watching :)
That's my ladder! Haha. Also that is the largest chain @4:19 I have ever seen.
The chain is secured round the fort and runs across the estuary to the other side to another fixing. It was a giant boom rigged up to stop enemy vessels traveling further upstream .
you should come to have a look around the abandoned bull sand fort on the Humber river
after months of being subscribed and viewing many a video, I have determined.....this channel ought to be called IKS timidly peeks.....lol
Great place. Never been to the basement though, looks interesting.
The butterfly bit made me LOL
Indiana Jones goes up against scorpions and tigers.... In England we face the wrath of the butterfly
+Medina Sod lol
You guys do say 'Its proper old isn't it?' ALOT. Love you're videos, keep them coming!
+Chris Brown lol thanks for your support :)
Really good video once again... You guys should come to Chorley Lancashire there loads of hidden bunkers up there and the bae systems factory what goes in to the hills what they claim is abondend since ww2 but there's still sercurity what patrol the area

First class !!
Waders, next visit? It might be worth it. And you can get steel toed and soled ones.
Were those giant chains to anchor ships to the tower?
Wunderbares Abenteuer !!
Another great video guys. maybe take a hard hat next time Ian lol
Glad you hat a cap on. Ouch, that leaves a mark, doesn´t it ?
Creepy voice at 9:50 in after you tap the tank sound's like someone saying Andy. Probably have to ware headphones to hear it.
You're right...
It says "Save Andy.:
Adam Partoon Hey I heard it as well it's pretty clear.
Adam Partoon it does I hear "Andy" in a soft faint voice
Adam Partoon Aye. I heard it, only just. But there is a whisper saying "Andy"
Looks like it may have a few damp problems.
how shocked you were by that crab was funny
Stephen M
my god if i sin that butterfly i would of ran off like a girl hate them
awesome any idea what the big chain is for 👍
@ 0.48 is that for barrles gose then to the top?
I cannot find the first 2 videos ! What is up with ? It also says click here for part 1 ! But click where as I cannot seem to find the spot ! I would love to see the start clear to the end of all of the videos for this set !
what is the purpose of the large chain link surrounding the base of the building?
quite a common misconception about that butterfly that attacked you it actually is a emofly they stay in dark cold wet places and attack anything that sounds or looks positive
Saint Rodgers Domino the light is attracting the butterfly,
Hi, just wanted to say how obsessed I am with your videos; and I also wondered if you could say the type of your drone.
+Treasure Hunter513 thanks for the comment, I use the dji phantom 3 standard
IKS Exploration - Fridays 10AM brilliant, thank you, quite a piece of kit it is aha
Need checkout Cleethorpes 2 forts on the river humber used in the war both forts pull a big chain net to prevent submarines from getting up the humber estuary sadly only accessible by boat. Was rumours gonna make one into a hotel.
Got to give you credit for respecting the generously donated public use ladder and putting it back as found. Here's to respecting others.
You should invest in a respirator. Mold is terrible to breath in. Just looking out!
John Bernier And asbestos!
it would be really interesting if you could get a interview with some of the people who worked at some of the sites you go to. please try. would love it if you has the talk over the videos
there must be some old people who would love to tell a story. if you could find someone who was in war time on this video . that will be the best video on you tube about the places you go to.. thanks
That basement may have been the powder room, the level above the shell room, even on old Battleships the powder was kept separate from the shells.
what are those chains wrapped around the tower used for?
Austin Mason chain across the river ?
Grain Tower found an additional purpose as one end of a boom defence stretching across the Medway to Sheerness. The massive iron chain from the boom is still present, wrapped around the base of the tower. A fixed timber section of the boom stood between the tower and the shoreline.
if that was closer to home i'd love to do an overnight camp there!
Would love to see that hoist restored back in full operational condition.
Whats with the big chain?
what are chains for any ideas

if i was a multi millionaire i would love to buy and have this place refurbished to live in, but keeping a lot of the original quirks and features like the loading pulley system
would make a great house but would piss the postman off!!
Looks dangerous place guys be careful

This was cut down as much as possible ian took lots out but its an amazing place and loads to see!!
what is the point of those chains being there
I would love to buy a piece of land with something like this on it and restore it. Though I think that fort is a little past being restorable looking at some of those supports going up into the tower.

You should of picked the hook up and put it up in the tower so other people can see it and it doesn't get more damaged.
