If you experienced a loss of heat at home during the winter you could set that up in your basement and probably survive with just body heat in a micro climate.
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Love the size of that tent I just bought a 72" x 72" polar bear it wasn't expensive but I'm impressed with it for 200 dollars. A cousin and I had a homemade fishing shack for years it was a bunk (sleeper) off Kenworthy we made skies for it and hauled it with either a atv or snowmobile we are a big trucking family not hard to tell is it but it is to heavy and small but got some looks and people stopping to check it out we had a little wood stove in it and cooked more fish than we brang home.
Cool video... Great review!!!
The Eskimo door is a game changer, I love otter but eskimo got it right with the xd series imo, no way my wife would give up that door and go back to trip doors.
Can you share line here to the 2nd review of Eskimo as I would like to see 2nd one you bought. (And maybe obvious but not finding.
Six sides is not a disadvantage in my estimation because the closer to round you are the better it will be able to withstand high wind.
Tipis and yurts are the best for high winds. The new Verizon of this had the full for and is thus seven sides!!
Win win for me and is the one I want!!!
Видео супер. Удачи тебе
Need the drill adapter for the anchors. Probably cut your setup time in half
Setting these up in the wind sucks same otter vortex resort two people we lossed the repair kit the wind ended up collapsing the roof on us multiple times one side the center hub broke and broke some of the guy lines first time it ever went out too 😢 but it turned out to be like 40kph winds to 100kph winds it was a shit show but was extremely impressed with how it held up to the elements considering the circumstances i hope warranty sends us the parts to fix the tent
super informative video! not many good videos/reviews of this shack out there at all. I am looking at buying a hub style shack that's around 100sqft for winter camping. if you had to do it again, would you buy the Otter vs the Eskimo? My top choices are the Vortex Resort and the Outbreak 650XD. It seems that the only thing the Eskimo has on the Otter is those awesome full doors. Thanks in advance!
I was debating which tone to buy also, Otter Resort or Eskimo 650XD. Chose the Otter Resort it has more features than Eskimo. Full Door would have been nice but I am loving the Otter Resort tremendous quality.
I just bought the resort with the no trip door I would not buy a tent without it, I bring my big sleigh in and set up a table in it
Awesome review, thanks for sharing! So is it safe to assume that this is a good WARM shanty for a family of 2 adults and 2 young children?
Thanks! I think this is a great option for a family of your size. in really cold weather I would get some foam mats on the floor to keep your feet warm!
@@bfjoutdoors Thats good to know for sure. My wife and I have iced fish for years in a flip over, and have never used a hub style before. We probably would be bringing our Big Buddy heater to really throw the heat out.
This is hands down the best hub on the market. The bag is plastic lined too so packing up takes half the time of setting up. Which is nice because when it's cold I want to get packed up and back in the truck as quickly as possible. I have the vortex lodge which is only a 4 sided hub, but it's the same as this.
@@whitelightning3330 I ended up buying the shanty and have no used it about ~5 times and am very impressed. I noticed it does take a little more heat than im used to with my flip overs to heat it up, but common sense says a bigger area is gonna require a little more heat. I bring my Big Buddy to get the full temperature range. But yes, I agree, the shanty is awesome and the bad is indeed nice. Love how its oversized. It is so nice to be able to stand up or walk around in it. My family of four has plenty of room.
How is it under rain?
Thanks for sharing. What sled do you use for transporting on the ice?
The sled I use is actually not the best but I have it for my snowmobile. It a little heavy for walking with! It's a pelican trek from Costco actually.
@@bfjoutdoors Thanks. What model is it? I'm choosing between a jet sled JS1 (54*25*10 @11lbs) and the XL (66*31*12 @21lbs). Wondering how your sled compares. Planning on turning it into a Smitty. Trying to choose between cutting weight and having extra space. Thanks again.
@@fishnlift01 yeah those are both nice sleds depending on how much gear you have or need to bring. I know lots of people bring their shelter and a bucket with some tip ups and a few rods. Others bring every piece of tackle and electronics their wife will let them buy. 😂 the sled I use is a trek sport 82. Is 56lbs but I tow it behind a snowmobile mostly so weight doesn’t matter.
Get the anchor drill attachment
Thanks for watching! Have one just forgot it.
Should of spike down the corner instead of just hooking inside the spike.
I’ve never seen anybody use an ice anchor like that and those otter anchors look really cheap and small compared to the Eskimo ice anchors
I've only seen the anchors that come with an Eskimo Quikfish in person, but the anchors that came with my Otter Vortex Cabin are every bit as good and are the same size. I can drive either anchor in by hand (with no pilot hole and lots of cursing) or in a flash with my drill and anchor adaptor. Perhaps the perspective of the GoPro lens distorts the actual size - the GoPro doesn't compare to DSLRs in that regard.
TLDR: the Otter anchors are not small and are of good quality.
I did a warranty claim on my otter vortex. It’s been over 2 months with no response from Otter. I’ll never buy another product from them again.
Thank you for the information! Seems to be lots of people having customer service issues post covid now… I hope they get you fixed up!! What happened to yours if you don’t mind me asking?
