We are visiting next month and will be borrowing a family members SUV, but it's not 4 wheel drive. Is a 4x4 necessary to drive all the way to the bridge (Semuc Chapey)? If so, what if we just stayed in Laquin and hired a private driver to get us and the kids the last 45 minutes to the park? I watched the video and it looked pretty challenging for that mini SUV :( Is 2 days the right amount of time for this area or would you have added another day? THANKS!!
Awesome, you guys are going to have an amazing time. I never had to use four-wheel drive in the Toyota Land cruiser we were driving. As long as you are an experienced driver and have high clearance, you can make it. And yes for us two days was perfect. Have fun!
@@stacyorellana6770 We tried to do that short drive from the town to the pools and wisely turned around and did the same. You don't need 4x4 to get to the town, but very easy to arrange transport to the pools once you are there. Beautiful gem in Guatemala. The road was nearly completed to town 2 years ago, so I'm sure it's all been completed at this point.
Thanks for commenting. As long as you have a slightly higher than normal clearance vehicle, you should be fine. We made it two years ago without four-wheel drive just fine.

You definitely want 4x4 getting to semuc champey. The roads Can get really rocky. Our hostel arranged transportation for us when we went.

We stayed for 2 months in Guatemala City and felt completely safe everywhere we traveled with our five kids!
