Mushuggah has deeply inspired me to quit playing music altogether and pick up a f’n shovel and get back to work.
Well luckily it's great music to listen to while doing hard labor
@@drewbocop it’s the best. I love being a farmer but every now and then I really need a jolt to keep going.
@@drewbocop Meshuggah helped me lose 100 lbs. cardio is so damn boring, man
I've heard a drummer say that to Tomas, he said he was sorry and to get over it, get back to music.
The way I look at it, never treat music as a competition. The only one you should be competing with is your yesterday self!!
My first meshuggah experience was seein this exact performance in person

As far as I'm concerned, you guys are famous! ??????
God bless all you folks! I wish I was there!

I love how much you can tell that Jens just absolutely loves the musical elements of their stuff. Dude gets into the groove just as hard as the crowd does.
Totally dude. I was just noticing that about him especially thru this set - he knows where every snare, every pulse is and he headbangs and gets in that shit right with the crowd. Can you imagine the feeling it is to be their frontman lol
Unfortunately no more, none of them. Age...
He was the rhythm guitarist originally... wayyyy back...
I caught them last weekend in Luxembourg, Jens is still kicking hard and putting out the energy.
@@bcab7955 while the music on the new record seems weaker, his vocals sound more brutal than before
The last bit of Straws Pulled at Random is some of the best music ever written.
It’s actually beautiful
There's a loop of that part somewhere here on youtube.
It's perfection...simple...xtasy of sound and uncertainty...magnificent...
It's meshuggahs only romantic moment. People who like it r ghey!!!!!
Well then I'm 100% stone cold ghey
Can’t believe how insanely good Jens’s voice sounds.

@@MarlonGDA I think it’s Future Breed Machine
They're either a jazz band that plays metal, or a metal band that plays jazz. Either way, they're incredible 🤘🏻
They play nonsense backwards + people like it cuz it ain't make sense!!!
they play djazz
its not jazz or metal, its meshuggah
There is literally nothing about this that in any way resembles jazz. What does that word even mean to you?
@@FK-we1dp its cuz its groovey
Straws Pulled live is DOPE! You can really feel the weight of the 1 when you hear them play live!
Says a real musician!!! Good ear
I'd go so far as to say they're unrivaled in metal. The flawless execution, catalog, intricacies and innovation in the music, longevity, influence you name it they got it
It's bonkers that their older music was actually HARDER to play. Thanks for posting this!
it's subjective, but I don't agree. stuff from Chaosphere and Nothing is pretty easy, but grooves harder. their newer stuff is more challenging
@@erakattack To a degree. I think their older stuff was more challenging, especially from an ensemble perspective.
@@FrankNawrot unfortunately, I've only ever played New Millennium Cyanide Christ and Corridor of Chameleons with an ensemble. but that does kinda speak to what I was saying. they were some of the easiest songs from their catalog, so my band could handle it lol
I believe Tomas had a back injury so he can't play the same ol' tempo's anymore. And that's why he only play with one high tom, due to economics.
@@mortenhansen3455 economics? He can't afford any more toms? 😭
I can't stop falling in love with Jens' vocals in this video. He sounds amazing.
straws pulled at random has the best outro of all time
That and stifled
It's the only moment in the history of meshuggah music where you get some sorta romantic feeling :)
@@janhenrikbauer only time they are ever melodic, that's why
@@HaroldBallzmeshuggah have plenty of melodic riffs.
Geezus Christ this is viscious, groovy, AND technical. Now I feel bad for basically ignoring Meshuggah for years, since most tech-metal bores me.
Also, if I could make a new rule for metal, the bass would always be mixed this loud, it's absolutely brutal and delicious.
I am with you all the way with the new rule for bass. 🙂It makes everything more weighty and meaty! Unfortunately many bands focus on getting a (bass)heavy guitartone, instead of letting the actual bass handle the low end. And then there is little room for the bassguitar in the mix. It is not as simple ad that of course, but to an extent it is what happens.
@@Fjongus Yeah, I think you've hit the nail on the head. It's understandable to want a huge guitar sound with all the bass you can get - especially when you're practicing alone. But if more metal guitarists would pull back a bit in the context of the band and leave space for bass, I think it's a clear path to an overall thicker, heavier and just plain better sound, as Meshuggah prove here.
@@wychwoodmusic RATM is also good example
@@axllbk Absolutely! I tend to blame the huge and excellent bass sound on RATM on their funk and hip hop influences, but it definitely makes their rock-metal stuff that much heavier and more powerful
@@wychwoodmusic 🎯

I've been listening to Metal for 40 years. These guys almost make you cry with how beautifully they demonstrate the evolution and progression of Metal and carrying that torch for another generation. Such incredible musicians.
Glad they could take the camera editor for this video and move him to lighting the stage for their tours.
The best sounding self-induced headache I've had in a long time.

@@janhenrikbauer There's concepts and then there's how the human brain works. Chaotic and complex music + a frantic edit detracts from each other. It doesn't make it more enjoyable. But if you wanted people to actually feel like they're entering psychosis then I guess you did a great job
@@vincentjacobsmm if you’re not feeling some level of psychosis when listening to Messhugah, then you’re doing it wrong.
The cuts fit the music too well. They move in time with the track… what more do you want hahaha?!
Absolute genius songs, flawlessly executed. What some people are missing is that Meshuggah's music is not trying to produce the emotions that most other music tries to produce. Someone said good art disturbs the comforted and comforts the disturbed. There is an existential darkness in their music, but also a playfulness and humor that you rarely see in metal. Their music is vulnerable, and if you let it take you on a journey, there is an unparalleled depth, and on the other side, perspective. They are one of the great bands of rock music, and true innovators in their time.
If you listen really closely, during straws, the bassist fucks up a couple of times. They’re still human, but I think it makes it way better to know even meshuggah fucks up.
Also, Jens messed up on the lyrics pretty badly on Future Breed Machine
OH LORD TAKE ME BACK TO THIS TIME

the bass here sounds MASSIVE
What a monstrous performance holy shit!!!! My favorite version of In Death is Life/In Death is Death. I wish there was more from this concert.
Just watched a video from 2023 and thought " its impossible this guy sings so well live, it must be lyp synch" so I cmae to watch older videos. Nope. The guys is simply amazing. No idea how he can keep on singing exactly like in studio after so many years. Brutal.
Got to love that contrast button
Watched these guys in Adelaide the same week I did my back so missed the mosh pit. By the time the lights came up there was a massive dreadlock lying on the floor. I enjoyed the show from the side.

best section ever!! Inspiring!!
That bit after 16:00 minutes must be the best use of a talkbox I ever heard, subtle and stylish.
Yeah, I wish more people did cool original shit like that with one. They def have a lot of potential
@@clownmoshpit2778 They do, for controlling the "wah" especially. It just needs to be more obscure, having less of that vocal quality, but more focus on the wah. Recently watched a Live Tool video, not sure which song, but I was thinking the same thing. Maybe my own personal disliking from hearing that in too many songs, while not being polished. But yeah, I thought that pretty much downgraded the song.
Did you catch on to Fredrik's mess up transitioning from clean to distortion? I hardly ever catch any of their mistakes
As far as I know, and I could be wrong, but it is not a talkbox per se. It's a breath controller that converts air velocity to Midi control. So he's essentially controlling a gate with his voice. The 33 breath controller is just a MIDI interface.
