- A new page in this Altered Book Art Journal. I was looking for a quick project I could do in an afternoon and turned to my gelli plate to create the background.
In this page I used:
Sea Eagle image cut from a charity shop book of bird illustrations
Stencil from The Crafters Workshop (TWC156S)
Distress Ink pads in Rusty Hinge and Unchartered Marina
Derwent Inktense pencils
Distress paints in Salvaged Patina and Antique Bronze
Liquitex Matte Gel
Hi-Tack all purpose glue
I hope this inspires you to get creating!

Beautiful! Have you tried printing on Deli paper? It's not as transparent as tissue paper but it's a lot stronger and really takes a beating. You can print several layers on it and it won't tear. And once you've pulled a print, you can modify it by painting on the back side. The colours will show though more or less and it can give a pretty cool effect. It also makes a nice, thin collage paper..
Oh yes, I like using Deli paper too! When I'm in the zone of a gelli printing session I just end up grabbing what's to hand as I always end up doing more than I planned! 😅
Absolutely lovely! Great video. A suggestion for you: a needle-tipped applicator bottle will help you control the amount and placement of your glue. A question for Tim Holtz: exactly what is an uncharted mariner?
ha ha, yes! I do have a fine tipped applicator.... somewhere on my art desk! I must go on an archaeological dig to find it 😂 And a very good question for Tim! Whenever I use the colour I think about being lost at sea!
@@SpiritofNatureArt Haha! I have to dig for mine all the time.
@@maramakesjournals2319 it's part of the fun! 😂
I absolutely love this altered book. Your work is stunning. 💕 I have a question but have hesitated to ask it here 🙏🏻 would you consider not having the music play when you talk? It is distracting, and to be honest, it starts to get in my nerves, which i feel takes away from the magic happening on the page. Please dont take me wrong. As a former YT content creator, I know how hard it is to edit and 'get it right'. ❤ again, I love your work 😊
thank you 💜 you'll notice that I use less of the music in my video's now ;-)
@@SpiritofNatureArt 🙏🏻 thank you
Beautiful, what are you using to cut out your eagle? It looks like it’s easier to hold than a traditional scalpel.
Thanks Su! I got this in a model railway shop, it's for trimming tiny decals on 00 scale models but works brilliantly for this kind of fine detail. Here is the link to the one I have www.jadlamracingmodels.com/expo-tools-high-quality-cutting-mat-with-stencil-decal-knife-71207/?gclid=CjwKCAiA8OmdBhAgEiwAShr402rmg7A3-CJCsSN814WosczBFF1Ma1cvF1gyyKmixWGD3dj3ffgBlRoC2cUQAvD_BwE
Do i understand correctly in believing that the eagle is glued to 3 layers of book pages on either side, each wing? So the eagle image, 3 book pages, the tissue paper in back?
I just want to make sure I'm getting it straight. So pretty
Have yoy seen White bellied Sea Eagles? They look like bald eagles sort of but they have white bellies. They're really stunning
yes, that sounds about right! I wanted it to have plenty of strength and these old book pages were pretty flimsy! Wow, the white bellied sea eagle sounds amazing 🙂
Beautiful!
Thank you 💜
