I use to have this mentality where i became obsessive with chasing financial goals, the more money I acquired the more money I wanted to save and make… but I lost sight of the present. You gotta enjoy life a bit , imagine being on your death bed and regretting being stingy all those years in your youth you could’ve enjoyed. Not saying go buy a sports car and go out to restaurants 5 times a week, but don’t be so minimalistic where you’re sacrificing enjoyment just to “save that extra dollar.” look at the horrible events that happened this past week, we aren’t guaranteed tomorrow. while it’s good to plan for the future and chase goals , you have to also enjoy the present.

This is bad advice for most people, the average person doesn't save enough already, and telling them that you might as well spend it because you could die tomorrow, is a bad mentality to have. There is obviously a balance, but in this guys situation, he is unemployed, and literally doesn't have the extra cash to spend

I am not trying to offend or hate, brother I love finance same as you, but don’t be stingy with yourself man, invest in experiences; get a nice haircut, gather with friends or family and live life. (No hate, I’m telling you this because I have been there).

He said he's on unemployment, which probably barely covers rent, the smart thing to do is to not over spend

Yea, can't agree more.. got a friend who is only 32, but has like ,1.2m networth. like 3-10x more than most people in our circle. yet, he is literally the stingiest person alive, not only to himself, but also to others. He literally wear clothes that he's been wearing for the past 10 years, never spends a cent on anything he doesn't need to survive. ofc, he doesn't have many close friends anymore.

As a finance student with minimal income/savings, I respect this approach but being happy in the present is just as important as saving❤️there is a happy medium!

I’d focus on getting a new job/increasing income man~ all this saving is a drop in the bucket compared to what you’ll make once you get it.
Esp. in regards to the coupon talk, even if you made half of what you made before getting fired collecting coupons would be not worth your time. Best of luck dude.

Hey bro, I watched the whole thing and there's a few red flags I'm noticing. You seem to have some financial trauma and punishing yourself for not having an income. I understand cutting subscriptions, food prepping, and everything but consider not cutting expenses on things such as fitness (i.e. tennis, gym, etc). If I were in your shoes I would: 1) sell some of my index funds as income. Since your income is so low for 2025, you'll pay very little or no tax (0% long term tax if less than 48k annual income). I would also focus your time and energy on fitness, maybe do some chicken breast meal prep (lmk if you want assistance). The benefit of focusing on your physical and mental health is it will give you more confidence so you'll interview better and possibly get a better paying job!

Guess no girlfriend for you in 2025 too lol. Over half a mil networth, but shows his $2k credit card loan, which you will probably pay off in a few days to show how much debt you have? Its good to cut unnecessary costs down if you are unemployed, but no buy for the whole year is just insane. People who are too obsessed with FIRE are usually miserable. You need to work on your physical appearance and social skills way more than saving a few more bucks. I got this one friend who I'm no longer close with. He is over a mil networth, and literally would make up excuses on why he cant drive every time we carpool so he saves a few bucks. What a miserable way to live.

Bro you dont have to do that. As other have mentioned, you are well of with your net worth/savings, far better than the average American. I am sure you will quickly find a job and probably retire with lots of millions. There are a lot of people who took this path, and then ended up with millions in retirement, but didnt know how to spend it because all their life they were frugal. The mentality of 40 years of only spending for necessities is hard to remove in your 60s and all the money you have gathered will be for nothing. You need to have a goal of why are you saving/investing that much, and if this for retirement then you have to have in mind what I just mentioned. It needs a balance, between saving enough for retirement, but also spending enough to leave comfortably without sacrificing anything you want to do. Someone who has a good job/career should be able to achieve both, financially speaking. Finally as other have mentioned, the frugal path will make it even harder to find a partner.

Do a no spend month not year (You can even make content out of your journey), you've moved from being frugal to being cheap. Plus your trying to start a business n build a brand you won't be able to hit those save goals unless you are okay with possible losing momentum on your youtube channel. Like others have said don't stress about 5 dollars here are there when u r doing everything else right. At 29 u r already well on your way to being a millionaire.
