@@brandonscorner9184 Rousey vs Holm was one of the biggest upsests by odds, but in hindsight especially it does not really seem as much of an upset, the odds where out of proportion and subject to the hype surrounding Rousey. There were obvious holes in their game, and their confidence in their hands putting them at risk. With GSP vs Serra on the other hand, you have two fighters who shouldn't really be sharing the cage (at least on paper, though I do think he subsequently proved himself as a top fighter even in his defeats) at this stage in their careers, GSP having undoubtedbly established himself as the best welterweight, and one of the most skilled and well rounded fighters in the UFC.

To be fair thats not a baffling or inexplicable loss. Cat Zingano was an elite fighter in 2014, she finished Miesha Tate in her previous fight, was the favourite to win against Amanda Nunes and had the potential to be a Champion during that era of WMMA. • @randallflagg3700

Just my opinion obviously, but I don't think Hendo vs Shield was on the same level...
Hendo a lots of losses, and Jake is far from the most baffling on the list.
Sure Shield was the underdog, but he was still the Strikeforce champ and Hendo the challenger, Jake won on a tear, having defended/fought for his belts against Nick Thompson, Robbie Lawler, Paul Daley, Jason "Mayhem" Miller, and finally Dan Henderson.
At that point he was the classic "best guy outside the UFC" role model.
He then moved to the UFC where he beat Martin Kampmann in a title eliminator; he got his title shot, and all the people watching who weren't GSP fans saw Shields as the guy to finally beat St Pierre.
Sorry about the long post, but I wanted to establish the context for those who may not be familiar with all of GSP's challengers ^^'
IMO it really isn't such a bad loss, losing to a younger elite fighter in his q who is on his way to the top, it could be a lot worse.

    • @randallflagg3700
      @randallflagg3700 3 роки тому +2

What sucks is a Joe Duffy is actually a pretty damn good boxer (for MMA standards), and he's had a few boxing bouts and is undefeated (7-0, all 7 matches happened in 2013) in that sport.
Thing is, Duffy semi-retired from MMA in 2011 after beating Conor an a few other guys... to switch to training in boxing only for a couple years.
Then in 2013 alone he won 7 boxing matches, but he must have thought that he wouldn't be able to cut it at a higher level, I don't remember why, but he came back to MMA in 2014.
IMHO, those years of boxing training would have been put to good use have he called out McGregor to take his revenge on the boxing ring, since Conor had been talking about boxing years before it actually happened.
A boxing bout between Conor and Duffy would have been perfect, either before the Floyd fight to see at what level he's at, or after to rebound after the 2017 Mayweather beat down.
In the post-Chael world of call-outs pro-wrestling style, the public would have loved it, especially the Irish which is good because it was at a time where the UFC was trying to find some stars from there...

Duffy is a solid journeyman though
(4-4 n the UFC, and some nice wins outside as well, like against crafty veterans Norman Park or Damien Lapilus)
, and is very well rounded.
Duffy has good BJJ, good boxing, good kicks...
Had he rematched Conor in MMA when McGregor was in his prime , then IMHO _Irish Joe_ would have lost...
But a boxing bout? Who knows?
That would been easy to sell it to the MMA casuals wave that accompanied Conor's rise to the top.
I guess I just miss the days when MMA fighters would often take kickboxing or boxing bouts on the side, even if it still happens nowadays once in a while.

GSP's losses were in title fights at ages 23 and 25 and he wasn't fully developed yet. After his loss to Serra, he looked untouchable for over six years until he fought Hendricks. Maybe lost a round or two that entire time. Khabib didn't even fight for the title until he was 29 and well within his fighting prime. When he was 23 he had a close fight with Tibau

@dick McGibbon Usman could definitely beat Khabib. He has the exact same record at 13-0 with three title defenses, and he's fighting bigger guys. Not to mention he's never been taken down in his entire career and that wrestling is dependent on weight. And no, Khabib could not hold DC down. DC said he "kinda had to try" to get back up, and that was when he was already in a disadvantageous position as Khabib was on top of him. And if I've learned anything from watching MMA, it is that the competition eventually learns how to beat you. Silva, GSP, and Jones all didn't officially lose a single round in their first five title defenses (Khabib officially lost a round against McGregor and Gaethje, which I think is ridiculous but still), but eventually Chael, Hendricks, and Gustafson came along to ruin the party. And even then they all kept on winning

Ryo Chonan was winning the fight against Silva, the submission was not a hail mary but more like an exclamation point to an incredible performance.

4:43 im sorry i know he's probably really hurt but i laughed cause he looked like a kid that just got pushed by another kid and wanted him in trouble so he just starts crying even though it didn't hurt.

I get that it's a list of legendary fighters, but one has to remember Andrei Arlovski's first pro fight vs Viacheslav Datsik.
if you don't know who Datsik is just google him and his fights. Andrei went on to become UFC HW champ.

I sure as hell dispute Nunes' GOAT status. Valentina didn't cut any weight to fight at 135. Even though Amanda had 20 lbs on her, many people (myself included) think Valentina won the second fight. If they were the same size, Valentina would beat Amanda 10 out of 10 times.
