- AEW: Fight Forever-the first video game release by young wrestling company All Elite Wrestling-looks to bring the pro-wrestling video game genre to its more fast-paced, arcade-styled roots. Hoping to bring the fun of classic pro-wrestling games like WCW/NWO Revenge and No Mercy, AEW: Fight Forever features a simple control scheme that, while it takes a few minutes to learn, offers quite a bit of depth for more dedicated players.

The graphics are what I'm charmed by, actually. Got a throwback feel to it. Create-a-wrestler online, brief entrances...For AEW's first stab at this, I'm not expecting the sun and the moon. As long as its functional and fun, I'll be good.
The throwback feeling is skimped budget.

Real nostalgia trip for gameplay. It’s great fun. Trying to ignore the lack of content for now as I’d rather good gameplay but it really is poor especially CAW. I’d say less content than no mercy
I don't mind the mid tier graphics, it's an obvious throwback to the AKI wrestling games on N64. I am however, taken back on how this game is more arcadey than the WWE 2K games. Back then the AKI games (No Mercy, Revenge) were considered superior because of the smooth animations and realistic gameplay, wrestlers actually stayed down after a big move, unlike in early smackdown games, they get right back up even after a finisher. I hope AEW FF is nothing like that and the arcade style only refers to the easy pick up and play mechanism.....
Well I will say I’ve played it this morning and I was down for a solid 20 seconds after a finisher. So not sure about the no selling moves. They do stay down
I'm happy its more arcade style. I am beyond tired of games trying to emulate reality too much. The whole reason I play games is to take a break from realism. Not to mention wrestling and over the top go hand in hand conceptually.

I have it and played it , it looks like a ported Nintendo switch game , or early ps4 game . If you can get past the graphics and the some times interesting facial graphics , it’s a fun game . For some one who doesn’t want a tekken or a mortal kombat type of combo system to pull off a move it’s fun . It almost seems it was made for the ps4 , and the graphics where not really boosted to take advantage of the ps5 , but it runs smooth. I think it’s fun, enjoyable and the buttons , moves and the design of what and how to play . My 5 yr old nefew can play it as can i and we both can have fun , nothing is perfect as our personal tastes are different , but they way I look at it , it’s your money that you spend , if you like it buy it if not then don’t, it’s simple . Last point keep in mind it out on all platforms so it had to be made in a way that would be compatible across them easily , with out having to do major changes in coding and design . AEW has gone for the mass audience here , not just the next Gen consoles. so it both a positive and negative impact.

When I saw the funky art style and jankyness of the gameplay, I thought for sure it would be a $20-30 digital only release. I would've pulled the trigger at that price just for the AKI N64 nostalgia trip, but $60 for the base game + paid DLC is a hard pass.

Also this game is meant to be a foundation they grow and improve on, TK has dumped a boat load of money into the game engine, not just a single game.
no it should be on release, they shouldnt add a dlc for a divison that has titles on their tv show, they shouldnt add matt hardy as dlc sense hes been on the roster sense 2020.. dont say dlc ever unless its an expansion, i'll take a free update tho,
The game has a lot of weapons, an exploding barb wire match, and a lot of blood if hit with barb wire weapons.
I really like this game. It's very fun. The graphics are nice looking.
The game has simple controls and short matches so it's easy to pick up and play.
The matches on TV sure aren't short 🙄
Be aware that this game only has 7 match types & almost half of them are only 1 on 1.

Gameplay is FANTASTIC, graphics are far from bad, just a different style(You guys must've forgot what a playstation 2 game looks like). The amount of people that wanted them to make a 2k clone are people not worth taking serious Lmao. They wouldve complained about that too. The game however, is seriously lacking DEPTH. They have less content than wrestling games from 20 years ago... That's unacceptable. If they address this, this could end up being the best wrestling game since maybe 2k14...maybe even further back. Great first effort, but they need to address the content issue ASAP.

I’ve played it this morning and it’s really fun . It’s not perfect by any means but the games engine is really good and the gameplay is solid. I am looking forward to future updates

Sounds great, people forget the legacy of No Mercy started with World Tour.
I really wanted a WWE alternative but this game just doesn't look like it's up to snuff.

I'm all in on this (pun intended). It's a throwback to the best era of wrestling games. I hate the 2K games and haven't enjoyed a wrestling game since the gamecube era. Shit just started getting slower, more realistic, less options, less variation and settings, less everything and the buttons are ridiculously confusing. Defo gonna get myself a copy

I’m enjoying it. Definitely room for improvement, but it’s fun and I find the roster to be pretty amazing, albeit missing a few notables. It’s a decent first effort, hope they listen to the people and add some of this stuff in later, whether it’s this game or the next one. The potential is here.

Also 2k has good gameplay as well so I don’t see how aew’s game could be much better. I know that’s their best feature but gameplay is what brought fans back after 20’s debacle. With that said this game is utterly disappointing outside of gameplay. Weak short story, terrible creation, damn near no match variety, no commentary, no full entrances, no community creations, lack of different game modes, no 6 man which is weird since aew has a trios belt.. this game is too bare bone. It would’ve been acceptable in the late 90s not in 2023
@@MR.__G To each their own. The two games are apples and oranges, but personally I don’t find the gameplay on 2k to be all that. Same game breaking flaws year in and year out, namely too many reversals and kick outs. It’s also fair to say that your investment in the real life product plays some role in your enjoyment of the game. I haven’t been interested in WWE for like 20 years, so for me it’s just nice to have something different. 🤷♂️

Thanks for this great review, and specifically for not comparing it too much to the "holy grail" of wrestling games: WWE 2K. I agree 2K games LOOK great and are feature-rich, I absolutely loathe the gameplay. The campaign/GM modes do nothing for me. I just want a game that's chill and fun to play like how console wrestling games were in the late 90s to early 00s. The visual bugs and strange QOL choices in this game are a bit concerning but I'm pretty sure I'll buy it and enjoy it.

I'm hyped for this game. And can't wait to play it tomorrow especially since I'm a huge fan of games like WCW/NWO Revenge and WWF No Mercy aka the AKI games, along with being a fan of WWE Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain so a game like this is right up my alley.

Aew is half baked and unpolished. It was developed on the easiest game engine yet still still managed to feel like a beta after several years of development and numerous delays. If it was a budget title or even free to play then fair enough but it was full price for a bare bones, buggy game.

The fact that this game and wwe2k23 are both rated an 8 by this site is a joke. The sheer depth of 2k23 is astounding and the hit detection is miles better. You can literally create or download this entire game's much smaller roster in 2k23, and it will look better and have a deeper moveset.
If you are giving it a pass for the arcade style, then you need a different ratings system for different genres because to a casual watcher of this channel it appears that you are putting the two on par. That is insanity.
And please note, I'm not a wwe (or 2k) fan boy, I'm a huge aew fan and 2k is far from perfect.

Impossible as ALL WWE games and their engines belongs to WWE. Yukes cannot reskin what they do not own. That's why they had to make a wrestling game engine from SCRATCH. I mean it. Absolute from SCRATCH. From nothing. A blank empty canvas. From nada. None. That's why it taken them so long and the project been so super expensive for AEW Games.
Then people would complain that it was a WWE 2K carbon copy, besides I think the base for WWE 2K games are property of 2K Studios

This game is like AEW itself. Really good at hyping things up, god awful with execution and delivery.
Yeah that's the game's biggest flaws, a clear lack of match types: no cage matches, no backstage areas, no 3 vs 3 or anything beyond 2 vs 2, no guest referee, and on and on....they better update it soon, or I feel the game will get old rather quickly.

Wrestling games are the same these days! I use enjoy Wrestling games when I was a kid but now Wrestling games are boring! And AEW game wouldn't be any different!
