This is an older video, but here I am! 😂 I am a pet sitter, and during a visit, while I was sitting in the backyard at a client's house, I had a tiny baby jumping spider the size of small fruit flies crawl on me, so I took him home. He already was eating by day 2, and has had 1 successful molt. Hopefully he makes it, I know they're so very vulnerable when they're tiny. I already have a follow-up enclosure once he gets the proper size thanks to Tarantula Cribs. 💕 Since he's so little, I don't actually know if he's a he or a she, but - they're always just 'cute lil guys' right? 😅

I still don't get it... I just saw a wolf spider last night, hesitating to go near it because I'm a bit agoraphobic. (no where near as bad as when I was a kid) Then I see jumping spiders as the cutest things, specially the kind Kat has.
We just had 3 mantid egg sacs hatch, and were wrestling with feeding them fruit flies. Found a video that recommended using a little olive oil on the very top of the transfer cup. This keeps the flies from being able to crawl out of the cup while trying to feed lots of babies.
Kat: Jumpy spiders are all about stalking and preying, even if I use tongs they won’t take it… Also Kat: *puts worm 2cm away from its face* why is no one eating?? 😫😫 This is the best unintentional comedy ever 😂👌

best feeders for jumping spiders are that ones that moves (so can be followed by spider) and spider can recognize front and back of feeder (so jumping spider can jump from back) Edit: also some spiders prefer flying feeder (my phidippus otiosus prefer flies) if they dont eat on video try drop water drops they can be "trained" to drink it and its really cute
Hey girl. I just found you my accident!! I seen you have mentioned mostly reptiles as a favorite vendor. Ruthie is one of my bffs! She and another vendor j c scale babies(retired last year due to health) help me overcome some major arachnaphobia! I now own 3! Started WITH TINY SLINGS 2 years later I'm more comfortable...but still nervous. My g.hamorii and g.pulchra are little defensive nuggets!!!! My b.albo is sweet as can be!! I own 6 snakes, 1 leopard gecko, 3 cresteds, and the 3 ts. Locally I'm a board member of a local herpetological society and 3 of us run a A reptile rescue and work with the local animal control and we also put on educational events and also aytend expos. (Believe it or not we get animals surrendered to us at these places) just watch the video of where you picked up a spider that was abandoned in a rental home in September of 2017 we have the same situation but this time it was 76 snakes! Several were in different stages of decay unfortunately. We save 62. And then had to euthanize 2 later on. It was awful. Most my pets are either foster failures or adopted through our rescue. Im still learning about tarantulas and trying to do the best husbandry possible. My hamorii seems to hate humidity...or shes asking me for more. Constantly dumping her water dish. St.louis isnt too far from my city in indiana! Keep educating!! P.s i saw u used jungle soil? For the hamorii...ive never heard of that. I use repti soil and its so dry 😪
Never seen this channel before and know nothing about spiders, but those caterpillars (or inchworms? insects and arachnids aren't really my field of interest o-o) seem MASSIVE (compared to the spiders anyways) and found it a little funny that at the beginning you said you were starting "smaller" because you didn't want them to be "afraid" of their food. Seems like they're still way too big to NOT scare them, lol.
Fruit Flies are the absolute WORSE to deal with as feeders, I hated using them when i had to feed my baby praying mantises at the time. Very happy my 6 are sub adults now lol
I see dead hornworms all the time at the big box pet stores in the area- super extra gross!!!!! They are always fresh at the local ones!🙂I’ll have to try those sometimes with my snappers- I think they would bite them, but spit them out later!

Hi Kat so I have arachnophobia SUPER BAD! BUT, I've been watching you and a few other UA-camr and wanted a jumping spider. So thought I could cope. Well the other day we caught a small jumper in my room. Idk what species I just know here in California we don't have those big jumpers. Anyways my hubby caught it and had it in a cup with a paper covering the opening and he handed it to me. Unfortunately he peeked out of a Crack and I got freaked out and threw the cup😢. He survived but I'm still terrified of spiders😢
Here's a weird idea: you could feed the little spiders on a tray or something that has double sided tape, Vaseline or maybe corn starch (I think flies can't walk through that? What's the stuff ant keepers use?) around the edges, so they can't leave the tray and end up living in your house rent free
I LOVE JUMPING SPIDERS! We love next to the woods in N Indiana, so we get a lot of spiders. It's interesting because each side of our house houses specific genres (most of the same genus, but a different type). I'm not great with names, but I did find a baby jumper that looked like an ant. I didn't think we had those up here, but she was the prettiest little baby. I love them all! Thank you Kat🕸🕷🫀
Hey Kat I have found fruit flies are much easier to work w if you add vitamin powder to the cup to make the sides too slick for them to climb. Also the wingless fff from Josh's frogs are easier to work with, I find the others to be able to jump and glide to create chaos.
My name suggestions for the baby: -Cinnamon Latte (or just Cinnamon, or some other cinnamon drink since he/she was "spicy") -Espresso (I just like this name lol) and I'll add more when my brain decides to function 👍

He unfortunately was burrowing into the space between the driver’s side window and the flap on the door, I couldn’t reach him and had to go back to work. When I left work he was gone, so darn cute. That baby was on it! Like you say, jumpers are little stalkers and pounces like my kitties. I so want a jumping spider, I see tiny ones in the UK, but I wouldn't want to keep them in captivity as they're used to theor freedom. I have a fair few house spiders that i let stay here, amd even have to save from my cats. I even had one l slide down its Web to come and sit with me, it was so cool. I love them, and blessed to have them to keep the bugs down off my plants 🥰❤️🔥💫✨️
Kat did you try "Callosobruchus maculatus" as feeders yet? I'm not English native so I don't know common names. It's a bug infesting cowpeas. Super small, extremely easy to breed and my slings always loved them. Way easier in handling than drosophila as well, as long as you keep them in smaller containers. In larger ones their population grows exponentially and very fast. I keep mine in small transport vials.
My grandkids go out and pick up all the horn worms they can find and put them into a critter carrier to watch them as they grow fat and pupate and change into a moth. They look like Heimlich, from A Bug's Life...so fat! lol Our chickens eyeball them and the kids can't stand it! lol
So I live in north Alabama... I saw one just like her on my recycling can today... I filmed her for a few minutes... I was so amazed at the frown on her face... lol

I literally tried to feed my sub adult bold jumping spider a mealworm and he was NOT having it 😂 I tried for two days and nothing. I put a cricket in there, not even 10 minutes and he was on it lol

Jumpers are active HUNTERS like Cats in the Macroworld. You may have better luck with anything not too big that moves around in their enclosure.

What happens if the spiders don't get separated? Would they all kill each other, or can they co-exist? Sorry if it's a dumb question, just curious.

That baby was on it! Like you say, jumpers are little stalkers and pounces like my kitties. I so want a jumping spider, I see tiny ones in the UK, but I wouldn't want to keep them in captivity as they're used to theor freedom. I have a fair few house spiders that i let stay here, amd even have to save from my cats. I even had one l slide down its Web to come and sit with me, it was so cool. I love them, and blessed to have them to keep the bugs down off my plants 🥰❤️🔥💫✨️
Kat did you try "Callosobruchus maculatus" as feeders yet? I'm not English native so I don't know common names. It's a bug infesting cowpeas. Super small, extremely easy to breed and my slings always loved them. Way easier in handling than drosophila as well, as long as you keep them in smaller containers. In larger ones their population grows exponentially and very fast. I keep mine in small transport vials.

My grandkids go out and pick up all the horn worms they can find and put them into a critter carrier to watch them as they grow fat and pupate and change into a moth. They look like Heimlich, from A Bug's Life...so fat! lol Our chickens eyeball them and the kids can't stand it! lol
So I live in north Alabama... I saw one just like her on my recycling can today... I filmed her for a few minutes... I was so amazed at the frown on her face... lol

I literally tried to feed my sub adult bold jumping spider a mealworm and he was NOT having it 😂 I tried for two days and nothing. I put a cricket in there, not even 10 minutes and he was on it lol
