I’ve had some very good raw vegan “cheesecake” in the past, made with cashews and coconut oil (among other things). I’m also wondering why Trevor couldn’t have made a cheesecake with regular vegan cream cheese. He seemed about as confused by his decision to use hummus as I was.

Yeah lol there are dozens of brands and some of them are actually pretty damn good. The one round that truly tripped them up was the quiche round which had a lot to do with the fact that they used JUST egg which has had years of development behind it and not just “replace this with this other random ingredient”
It appears to me they didn’t use any pre made substitute ingredients but rather alternatives if that makes sense. Like they didn’t use vegan butter, or vegan cheese they use an alternative ingredient

I agree. I like GMM but this is exactly why people think vegan food is gross and refuse to try it. I promise none of us vegans are making cheesecake with hummus (try a dang Daiya cheesecake!), and most brownie recipes these days just use flax eggs. These vegan episodes are so frustrating to watch.
I'm also vegan, and yeah while I wish they chose more accurate representations of modern vegan food I also think they chose some of the weird recipes for the entertainment value, which makes sense!

I'm severely lactose intolerant, so I usually get the vegan option when I go to a restaurant to avoid dairy... the best vegan options are usually the ones that don't try to mimic something else like mac n cheese.
