    Seems like you ran into to an area with low mobile data coverage/weak signal crossing the bridge. Good to see it picks up again fast when the signal/coverage is better. :-)

    Love this guys videos. So natural. Informative and scenic. Boy does he know his Tesla. Deserves more and more subscribers and comments. I'm waiting to order my Model Y. Still can't get a definitive answer anywhere as to when the UK models will come with the comfort suspension. If anyone really does know please let me know. Then I'll be driving from Kent to Scotland and taking in those views.

      I have a Kona EV. Test drove a Model Y a few months ago and found it very firm. I'm of an age so comfort over handling for me. I've tried everywhere and cannot get an answer to when we will get the comfort suspension. When it is my order will go in !

      I took delivery of a Model Y Performance on 1st March and thus far I have absolutely no complaint with the suspension, which on paper should be firmer than Ian's Long Range. My previous car was a Q4 ETRON with electrically adjustable suspension and I think that the MYP is no harsher on the road. If you haven't done it yet it's well worth while getting an extended Tesla test drive and doing some decent miles on it to see what you think of the suspension. I was able to arrange a test drive with Tesla Glasgow where I picked up a MYP at 15:00 one day and returned it the next day at 09:00, drove about 87 miles and was increasingly convinced that the suspension was absolutely fine, even on some rough Ayrshire roads!

    WOW. A double button reboot WHILE you are driving? I've never seen anyone try that before. In fact, I had to do one myself yesterday because the 'limited regen' icon was on even though the battery was at 75%. I pulled over and stopped, but my reboot failed to fix the problem :-( Anyway, you doing it WHILE DRIVING is legendary mate !!! I'm very impressed.

      Sure! Try it! Remember that you are only rebooting the navigation/entertainment bit. Stick it on autopilot and you retain at least cruise control whilst it reboots

    Great five-parter, Ian. I watched the first 3 in New Zealand, where I've been for the last month (and saw a good few Teslas out there). This last episode has whetted my appetite for our first trip of the year up the A1 from Hertfordshire to East Lothian in a few days. Suspect I'll be topping up at Purdy Lodge just like you did!
    And I'd echo your thoughts about the joys of touring in Scotland. I passed my test in 1990, and almost the first thing I did was drive from my then-home in Essex to Kyle of Lochalsh, just because I could 😀

    Agree with your enthusiasm for this car, but I am a little less tolerant of the appalling turning circle and sadly it is one of the few 'sub-optimalities' Tesla is not going to be able to fix in software! Makes it a real pain to maneuver in dense UK car parks. Interesting to see how FSD copes with that sort of back and forth maneuver you needed to get round that tight car park entrance, especially without radar to precisely judge clearances. They could help a lot in software though by showing forward and rear facing flank cameras when maneuvering at slow speed, or maybe getting the finger out on the oft-requested synthetic drone-view camera.

    Five per cent for preconditioning seems a lot of energy thrown away from the stored amount in the battery. Does this just give a faster charge or do you reclaim that lost mileage somehow ? Surely that is a big hit on efficiency, Five per cent on my Model 3 RWD would be 3kwh and at my usual efficiency of 200wh/mile I’d lose fifteen miles from my range. If I am not bothered about speed of charging can I stop it losing that by switching off the preconditioning ?

    • @twotone3871
      @twotone3871 Рік тому +1

      You're absolutely right. Preconditioning is to heat the battery to quicken charging - a cold or luke warm battery causes cold gating but is that really a problem. Do you really have to have fast fast charging and is raising the temperature of the battery above manufacturers recommended maximums really beneficial in the long term.

    Hi Ian. Looking at the top right of your screen @ 6m:14s I can see 1 lightning bolt, then 2, then 3. I can also see you have many 50kW chargers on the list. I tried to duplicate this on my screen today here in Melbourne Australia, and all I get is 1 and 3 bolts, but not 2 (which is what I use most of in the outback)... Any idea why they might be missing?
