Greetings from a beautiful village that is located in the north of Iran where near to Caspian sea, good job buddy, your work and endeavor is admirable and respectable ,I forgot to introduce myself,I'm a truck driver
One mechanic showed me that my torque rods need to be replaced ( he estimated $800+labour). I said thank you so much for your advise ☺️ I got them from Turkey for $120 each shipping included, took me half an hour-hour😁 $240 and an hour of my time vs close to $1k is a big difference.
If you have a jack that can grab both sides of the frame from the rear and jack up on it (I know it’s not ideal to pick up on the frame and stretch the air bags ) BUT, when you do that when the nuts are loose the torque arm will legit slide right down the bolts and you can nearly 90% of the time just pull the passenger side off that way and the driver just comes off with a pry bar after the bolts are loosened
good video. I was goin to replace mine today but the one of the bolt is completely rusted and even milwaukee m18 with high out put battery won’t take it out, i guess i will have to cut it. what do you mean ?
Hi I am trying to loosen the bolt on it but its completely seized. Two bolts are coming off but the other 2 are not as bolt is seized. I used a impact and warmed it up but I cannot loosen it.
New torque rods require a offset meassurement along with rear alignment. This may be how to replace them but if this all you do, your tires wont last a year.
About how many miles does it take for bushing to get worn down or does it depend how you drive? I have a new truck with 86k miles and my bushings are out of place
A drop or two of engine oil on the bolt threads should also do, aside from cleaning the bolt threads if they are dirty. I like using a small oil can with a flexible spout that I bought from Harbor Freight. It makes it easy to apply oil to bolt threads, especially on wheel studs.
When theses go bad I get a shake that comes and go's every 5 seconds and if you let it go it starts destroying my tires these rods last about 300k miles. What about yours?
Great video, i have a question (i'm an apprentice learning the trade) would another name for the torque rod above the diff be called the transverse rod? and will it be the caused of a suspension thump when the truck accerlerate?
If your truck was running straight before replacing the Torque rods and where not rubbing on the bracket i think its not necessary to do an alignment, but if you want to make sure you can have it checked, thank you for watching
If you torque the nuts and bolts to the correct torque spec, they can be reused. Overtorquing can damage the threads of the bolt or nut or make them break next time you remove them. You also want to always lubricate bolt threads with 1 or 2 drops of engine oil before installing them. If the bolt threads are rusted or dirty, you can clean them with a set of “tap and die” and cutting oil. Then there are several tips out there to prevent nuts and bolts from breaking while removing them. Applying heat and turning the nut slowly back and forth until the threads move smoothly are two of my favorite methods. 136 ft lbs for torque rods on the Freightliner Cascadia.
Also check the length of both torque rods at the dealer parts. I once was given two different torque rods that looked the same, but were off by half an inch.
The correct terminology for this type of set up, is originally called a Panhard rod. But it might soon be forgotten. It’s the cheap version of the Watt link. The watt link keeps the axle completely centered.
Yeah, some shops have minimum charges of half an hour or an hour. Torque rods and shocks are definitely some easy fixes that an owner operator can handle.
check out this channel for more trucking tips, subscribe to both channels, Thanks!!ua-cam.com/video/tafQ7hwArh0/v-deo.html

Do you need an allingment after replacing these torque rods?
If torque rods are worn do they cause the truck to shake?
Hi
I am trying to loosen the bolt on it but its completely seized. Two bolts are coming off but the other 2 are not as bolt is seized. I used a impact and warmed it up but I cannot loosen it.

U have video of replacing crossmember on rear kw?
Why to change this?
My freightliner semi steering shakes at around 35-45 mph
Is it because of this torque problem?
Thanks
I like that brother exelent. I say hi from COSTA RICA..
I will be doing this myself....thank you!
Are both torque rods the same part number?
Can you tightening the shimmy side first?
About how many miles does it take for bushing to get worn down or does it depend how you drive? I have a new truck with 86k miles and my bushings are out of place
Well explained video 👍
Thanks for watching sir 🙏
When this goes bad, what is the truck usually doing?
My truck is swaying and I think this is the problem
I always hit the nuts and bolts with wd40 or pb blaster before reinstalling, just a personal preference

Nice 👍🏼 video!! Well explained. Do you have by chance air bags number??
Im now sure about the part number
Isn't there a rod underneath the sleeper near the sleeper airbags on the cascadia.
Very informative.... keep more good things coming 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
thank you sir 🙏
How much torque is required for bolts?
When theses go bad I get a shake that comes and go's every 5 seconds and if you let it go it starts destroying my tires these rods last about 300k miles. What about yours?
I used ah c-clamp to push down the shimps, just don't clamp the brushing.
Thank you family excellent video
Thank you sir!!
Great job and great detailed video ! Thanks a lot bud !
thanks for watching sir, appreciate it
So was there any difference in ride or some other? Could those be problem for drive tires cupping outside edges?
Yes, can cause cupping along with bad bearings. Dealing with it myself right now
Great video, i have a question (i'm an apprentice learning the trade) would another name for the torque rod above the diff be called the transverse rod? and will it be the caused of a suspension thump when the truck accerlerate?
Just wondering what is the torque specification on the mouting bolts 250ft or more ?
136 ft lbs for Freightliner Cascadia.
Thank you making this video 👍🏽
thanks for watching sir

I have a question After that need it alignment or not?

should measure the new one to make sure it matches the length of the old one

what kind of problem you getting?
@@TRUCKINGTIPSDIY feel lose rear end and stering wheel
@@kumarsaab5137 did you get your problem fixed? I feel like the same thing is going on with my truck like you stated
👍
Don't pull the bolts all the way out, It keeps the shims in place.
Need to spray some wD40 on them rusty bolts lol
That truck has a crap load of new stuff. Air bag(s) torque bar, tires. Gonna be like new
Shocks
Driver, all is good except a lazy axle. It must be a Torque Rod to touch the Frame first, and secondly a pork.
We call it a dog bone in my shop

How much 💰 did you save by doing it yourself?
hello, im not sure how much mechanics charge to be honest
60 to 120 bucks per hour of shop time, and they will make sure to use at least an hour!
Yeah, some shops have minimum charges of half an hour or an hour. Torque rods and shocks are definitely some easy fixes that an owner operator can handle.
Jesus just do it i wanna see
Fannying about lol
To much extra work
how do you do it
how do you do it
Y no pudieron primero lavar a presión toda la suspension👎🤔
How much torque spec is on that impact wrech set to?
So was there any difference in ride or some other? Could those be problem for drive tires cupping outside edges?
its not vibrating anymore and the tires are going straight
Yes, it can cause an out of alignment
