    I own several different foams in a few artisan pads, you'd need to apply pressure on the mouse to amplify the difference with your statistics.

      Beardedbob I chose the Matte Black as it suits the setup and the gloss just didn’t look right in my opinion... and that shindekai you are giving away looks awesome but kinda worried that the glass surface would eat up the skates on the Model O, maybe this is a test you could do for us. First of all, by far one of the best and comprehensive video guide on the artisan pads. Lots of effort put in to the video. Seems like you have had them for a few months now Bob. How durable are the pads? Also which one is least affected by weather? I have naturally sweaty-hands and would love a recommendation. I know that Hien is weather-resistant but I want a mousepad with close to equal glide in both axis. In terms of what I am after, I want slightly more speed than control and stopping power. My current choices so far are Raiden, Hayate or Hayate Kou all in mid. Using a Zowie S2 on the mousepads with stock feet, planning to get better mouse feet in the future. Cheers!

    • @Beardedbob
      @Beardedbob  4 роки тому

      Thanks glade you liked the video. I can't compare on the wear though as I don't use them enough, my main is the G640 atm which I sometimes swap for the Helios. If you have sweaty hands/arm I would pick a more rubber texture over cloth as the cloth will hold the sweat and the mouse will slow down on the pad.

      @@Beardedbob Not sure tbh, this test showed there is still quite a difference between soft pads... so now I'm not sure. I did use hard plastic pads for years and I do miss that frictionless feel those provided.

    • @Beardedbob
      @Beardedbob  5 років тому +1

      I was also a hard surface fan and I think I still am secretly but I just couldn't find a large enough one. This seems to have changed and once I crack open the Helios I've got I might swap the G640 for it if I like it.

    • @Cimlite
      @Cimlite 5 років тому +1

      @@Beardedbob Yeah that Helios might solve one of the reasons I stopped using hard pads, comfort. My wrists would look like hell after gaming on those pads.
      Sadly, I doubt it wouldn't solve the other one, which was the constant wear on the mouse. I had to swap out mouse skates all the time to keep it feeling good... which ultimately got both annoying and expensive.
      That kind of glide on a cloth pad would be perfection for me though.

      @@Beardedbob Thanks man :) It's hard for me to say. I love the freedom of wireless, but for shape I prefer the S2 and phantom. Currently using the phantom the most because I'm using the fx raiden and I get spinout issues with the s2 and gpw. Interestingly, the gpw didn't spin out on it until I put aftermarket feet on, because it slightly changes the sensor height.

  • @Silent_Stillness
    @Silent_Stillness 4 роки тому

    Hi Bob! I thought your idea of doing this particular test was very interesting. I think there are many important aspects that maybe you could consider if you ever want to redo a test like this. Here are a few ideas I've thought about:
    1. if you have a precision scale, you could try to measure the weight of the mouse by itself, and then you could measure the weight of the mouse with your hand on top of it as your forearm is resting entirely on your desk surface... i know this might not be easy to organize because the scale by default would protrude compared to the level of your desk, but you could over elevate a section of your desk surface with cardboard maybe for the purpose of aligning it with the height of your scale just to do the measurement of the added weight of your hand on the mouse in an ergonomic position once. Then, you could use something like modelling paste on top of your mouse to create a base to install something to add weight to the mouse equivalent to the weight of your hand. First thing that comes to mind is something like a small jar that you could fill up with the appropriate amount of water to account for the weight of your hand... or maybe even just a small zip-lock bag of coins without even needing modelling paste. Then with that realistic weight added to the mouse, odds are that your test would show much more revealing friction differences between the pads.
    2. i think that if there was a way for you incorporate an additional test to your routine where you would start the measurement of your tool once the mouse is already in motion and maybe try at a slow and then at double speed, it could maybe reveal interesting properties of the different mouse pad materials.
    3. you could "warm up" your pads and mouse skates before your tests to account for the typical temperature of the mat and mouse skates in a session (this probably affects the skates more than the pad i believe).
    I know that ultimately I'm suggesting a rather extreme attention to detail but I can personally say that i would probably never buy a mousepad if i knew that it had huge resistance variations when the mouse is in motion vs the initial resistance of starting to move the mouse... Which might or might not be the behavior pattern of that glass coated cloth version of the artisan pad, who knows!?
    All i've ever known for the past 20 years are QCK+ (of which i've owned 4) and QCK heavy (owned 1). So far the best mousepad i've ever owned is the QCK heavy, but I do have to say i'm tired of having to brush my mousepads to restore their speed... It gets a bit extreme when you have to do it every day or so, and it eventually tends to wear the fabric down (even if not visible to the eye) as well as it increases the "clean" friction level of the pad. I wish there were materials out there that could allow the gunk to be removed with minimal brushing force to avoid having to use much force, but I just have no idea of what's out there... so in the meantime I'm just sticking to my affordable QCK stuff... thinking I'd probably like a faster cloth pad that's just easier to clean...

    Hi bob, after watching your video i ordered a hayate fx a while back and am loving it! Was thinking of trying out the raiden and would like to get your thoughts on the two. I love the tight weave on the hayate and also like the speed. Does the raiden feel as smooth as the hayate? Thanks!

      @@Beardedbob how about putting the mousepad on an incline say 45degrees, let the mouse slide down 10cm~ and hit the force meter? we already know that gravity is 9.81ms^-2 the weight of the mouse, so you can easily calculate what a zero friction surface would produce force wise, as well.
      Currently you're measuring some weird dynamic between your arms force applied, the difference between the friction of the force meter on the pad and the mouses friction.

    • @Beardedbob
      @Beardedbob  5 років тому

      I like the idea. I'll see if I can angle a mousepad on some wood at 45 degrees while mounting the force gauge meter where it could be hit. There are a few tricking parts though. One is making contact with the force gauge full on and not glancing it as this is a small target so if the mouse moves off course it will miss or give less of an impact reading. You can't run the mouse down rails as the friction if it touched the sides would again impact the mouse's movement.
      The cable could also get int he way, we could use a GPW but I want to expand the tests to all mice as the feet shape make a difference to the friction.
      Not all mousepads or feet combos would move enough at the angle or fast enough to give a full reading.
      You could still get readings that aren't accurate as a mouse that's heavier than others would hit the force gauge meter with more weight behind it, therefore, giving a higher reading potentially.

    • @woobilicious.

    • @Beardedbob
      @Beardedbob  5 років тому +2

      Hi,
      The FK2 is the baseline mouse, the cable can create some friction or push back but as we use the same mouse these results should all compare the same over the avg. I have used a GPW also and other mice but for now, the FK2 is the baseline with a view one day to run more mice across all of the pads to get every result.(along the way from that).
