My bunnies are Banksy and Buttercup and we're watching from Florida! Thanks for putting together another great video on a great topic! We're fortunate that our dog gets along great with our buns. But she's 15 years old, so we will eventually introduce new dogs to the family, and this will be very helpful! Now do you have the same tips for introducing cats, lol?! I have 2 cats... And between the 4 of them, they all take turns chasing one another!
Isn't it so special to see a bond from a dog and bunny? At first I did not think I could ever trust my dogs by the buns but I'm so glad I did bc they love hanging out together!
This is a fantastic video. I actually did most of these steps when I brought home my first bunny a couple years ago. My dog was shaking with excitement at the intro, but now she loves them and always checks to make sure they are ok. Having the crate next to the enclosure is a great idea… I’ll have to start doing that. It really is a joy having bunnies and dogs.
A relitive of mine had a jack rustle mix, who we were able to train not to go after my 2 pet rabbits so well, that we found him standing guard to protect a nest of wild rabbits one day! ... However, Even thoguh we could trust that dog not to hunt our rabbits, we still kept them apart, to avoid stress.
Im thinking of getting a rescue collie so they have hearding instinct ,but prey drive differs from dog to dog. Your video was super helpful. My rabbit whos 7 is my life, and i dont want to disrupt his house life from fear or danger. Thank you x
Yes I have 2 bunnies and an American Bulldog/mix and they’re great together. My other dog who passed away was best friends with one of the bunnies and the dog was a large American Bulldog as well.
thank you someone dumped 4 australian shepard puppies in my alley i kept one and found homes for the rest my rabbit and cat where not happy i was trying to get her to understand the bunny is our friend and binka my rabbit was making angry noises i knew it was gonna be hard with her breed but now i have more ideas to try
I plan on getting a Holland Lop bunny this summer. I currently have a husky/mix that I rescued from a shelter when she was to believed to be 2 now I believe she is turning 6. She’s always been sweet with her stuffies. After I gave birth to my son she started to treat her favorite toy like it was her baby. Tried to “nurse” it and everything.. it was sad and cute to see at the same time. I wondering with having this information of her if it will be on the easier side to teach her new bun is a new house pet and not to be hunted. Thank you so much for this video. I plan to watch it continuously until I have new bun here and even during the training process because it’s so important to me for both to comfortable in their own homes! Thank you again! ❤
My rabbits are already free roamed and I’m getting a dog soon should I go buy a pen for the training process but my rabbits are very use to dogs they’ve been around elderly dogs and my sisters dog my sisters dog will sniff milo like crazy and chase but won’t do regular hunting sighns but I when I baby sit her I make sure that if she comes with me to see the bunnies she comes up she has no interest in my other bun will tho which is strange
I wod also like to see your question answered. I have a bunny that I ha e had for 8 years. She is completely free roam. And we are getting a puppy soon.
hi!! this video was super helpful!!! i do have a question though, i already have a bunny and i will be getting a service dog very soon the thing i'm afraid of is that my bunny is already 8 and i don't want to stress her, but obviously a service dog will help tremendously with my disabilities shall i still train exactly like in the video or should i make some adjustments? :)
Hi! I don’t have a dog, but I do have a bunny! I suggest getting a more gentle breed of service dog (if it’s purebred) if you haven’t decided on a breed already! Labradors are great for this, my family used to have a yellow lab. We had Guinea pigs, and we introduced them to her so they could co-exist safely. She would be lying down, completely calm, even turning her nose away from the Guinea pigs to let them know she wasn’t going to hurt them. Labs are, in general, more laid back than energetic and in hunting mode a lot. I’d imagine it’s actually better for the bunnies to feel more confident in your home already, because it’s already “their territory” and in their eyes, they aren’t in a “predator’s territory.” Bunnies have prominent prey instincts. Just be careful! I’d imagine it will be fine as long as you take it slow :)
(also, always make sure to supervise them together, even when they’re calm, because accidents do happen. keep the bunny and dog in separate rooms with the doors closed or keep the bunny in a larger closed off pen the dog can’t get in to if you’re ever away without your service dog or bunny. I’d imagine there’s not many situations where you need to do this, though, because since your dog is a service dog, you’re allowed to take them places most dogs aren’t allowed in. Which is perfect!)
@@lesbianalien thank you so much!! that's actually so nice to hear, because my pup IS a yellow lab :D hopefully there won't be any issues, i've read up on how to do basic introductions, so fingers crossed i'll manage to teach them how to coexist :)
What if the bunny is the one that bites the dog? I know it sounds silly but I have a Pomeranian dog and my new bunny chases him to bite him even tho my dog doesn’t even approach the bunny.
Mine does the same thing I arrived to the house today and my dog was bleeding because the bunny found a way to escape from his excercise pen and was biting her. Yesterday is when it all started he kept chasing after my Australian shepherd to bite her. Did you find a solution?
My partner and I are wanting to adopt 2 bunnies and 2 pit bulls. We started looking for both a bit but we aren't sure which animal to get first. Would it be better for the bunnies to get acclimated to the house first or the dogs first?
I have a bunny and dogs, you should definitely get the bunny comfortable first bc they can have heart attacks if they become too afraid and it can take some of them a long time to get used to their owners/environment. Thankfully the baby bunny i got was handled often and the owner also had dogs so it only took her 4 days to get used to everything. hand feeding helps a ton.
It helps if the bunny is the first one in the house so it can be established . And the dog is coming into the bunnies territory. Teach the dog bunny is family and always be around . Redirect and make sure they’re calm . Not to jump on bunny ever bite
0:50 So you kept your bunnies inside safe but didn't care about the other animals YOUR dogs were killing outside... hmmm. They're still your dogs when they're outside, you know? That compassion you have for your animals can be extended to animals outside minding their own business.
I agree with your comment, and perhaps now they are trained for inside rsbbits they would be better to outside wild ones. Seeing any animal harmed by another is very hard 😢
She never said cage. Crates aren't physically or mentally harmful to dogs when used properly. Dogs "nest" as much as rabbits and cats do. A lot of dogs appreciate having a crate, with or without the door closed. Crate training also makes housebreaking unbelievably easier and helps them be comfortable in a carrier when being transported in a car, train, or plane. Introducing a dog to any new animal, even other dogs, is made so much safer and easier when crates can be confidently used.
Thanks for watching! What is your name and where are you watching from??

I'm watching from canada about to move out with my mini lop
My dog doesn’t want to hurt my bunnies she just gets excited and wants to ruff play with them so this vid really helped
Our German shepherd and holland lop not only lived together, but our bunny would eat with our shepherd of his bowl while he was eating!

What if bunnies are scared of dogs?
I'm bunny sitting and i have a very hyper corgi, so the corgi is so excited to meet the bunny but ends up just scaring the bunny ☹☹
I don't see a link for the Gate that you bought at Amazon the 36 inch gate.
But my dog was to concerned about the bunny that she didn't want the treat😢
Mine ate them up after 3days😂😂😂

I totally agree like wth, if your dogs are literally bringing you dead small animals in what world should you get a rabbit.
