- UPDATE 2016: NOW WITH LYRICS! Just put the subtitles option.
Pretty old video, I know, that's why the video has such bad quality, hope audio still listens OK.
It's a fanmade "music video" I created over a decade ago of the tune "Streets of Gold" by Ruth Pointer (member of the Pointer Sisters) from 80's Disney classic Oliver & Company (one of my favorite animated movies!)
One of my first videos, so my edition work wasn't the best.
Please, rate, comment and enjoy it!
I just edited the clips, all uploaded material bellongs to their respective authors:
Oliver & Company
© Disney
This is the most underrated Disney Film of all time.
Skynetz But it's the good one afterall.
Dont forget Great Mouse Detective, Fox and the Hound, Sword in The Stone, Aristocats, Hunchback, Mulan and Emperor's New Groove which are underrated
Johnlindsey289 but mulan is a very popular film
Skynetz brother bear
Sally Carrera oh never mind that, replace Mulan with Atlantis.
Looking back at this, Oliver & Company really got the spirit of pre-9/11 New York. Very underrated movie.
I’m sad to hear NYC was difficult pre 9/11.
I was born and grew up in NYC from 1995 - now
I dont really remember a pre 9/11 NYC
Yeah! ...this movie was the life of New York in the 80s! ...it makes me so happy to say, this was my birthplace🌉
@@Crayolapup
Well, difficult in what way?
Very well said. Put it right into words.
This is, without a doubt, one of the most underrated Disney films, probably ever. I loved this movie growing up. :)
Joey S in total agreement.
Right up there with Treasure Planet.
OLIVER AND COMPANY IS AWESOME NO MATTER WHAT
Story 5/10 animation 10/10 characters 10/10 songs 6/10 overall 8/10
i miss the 90s i luv this song so much now
Golden classics ^_^
How come they didn't get caught by the dogcatchers?
What Dodger was singing about earlier, street savoir-faire.
@TheJakeEinstein I would just think 'Oh look, a Disney movie being filmed'.
@fungun101
yes it is
the fact that this song and “perfect isn’t easy” aren’t on apple music is a crime against millennials.
Dude, that 80's vibe is still alive and going with godspeed
Yup! born 1982 and the late 80s and early 90s was a fantastic time to be a kid and was a teen of the late 90s, i miss those days
1988: streets of gold
2013: streets of mold
Very dang true I hate to say it
Sadly true....
2020-2021: Streets of Covid and cold.
2021 streets of cov-
2021 streets of shitty politicians, high ass gas prices, Covid, more mold
30 years old and still as great as ever this is definitely one of Disney's best movies I dont care what you tell me.
It's a good movie. And the music is simply excellent!
Still a better movie than 'Frozen" !
Why would you even compare Frozen with this movie?
ya true it is better than frozen :P
And still a better love story than Twilight!
Sasha La Fleur much better than this whores rita and georgette.
Why do everyone hate Twilight??
Ruth Pointer was just on masked singer last year. So underrated as a singer!!!
Really? 😀
Not sure if anyone caught this, but that's Leland Sklar on bass, Russ Kunkel on drums and Dean Parks on guitar. LEGENDS!!!
Fun fact: Georgette was one of Bette Midler's favorite movie roles.
I think it’s cute how Rita take little Oliver under her wing.
Well since this movie was based off of Oliver Twist, their relationship is reminiscent of Nancy being a mother figure to Oliver. And Rita protecting the kitten from Roscoe was also a callback to Nancy saving Oliver from getting a beating from Bill Sikes.
@@jasonvazquez8652 YES
Thankfully, Rita had a happier ending than Nancy…
@@magicaltour1 Agreed.
The amount of details/nuances in the drawings back then was incredible. Most of today animation looks poor compared to those paintings. There were already some 3D elements (cars) but they are treated as characters so it's not so abrupt visually
I was scared of Sykes and his dogs when I was younger.
He was so damn scary! QAQ
I know right
Me too! And I'm not usually scared of Disney villains like that. After all, I enjoyed watching Scar and his hyenas event if i didn't particularly like him back then.
Not me, he reminded me of Clarence from Robcoop
He also had one of the darkest deaths, up there with Clayton.
Narwhal Entertainment he and his dogs, remember that his dogs were electrocuted on the train rails
I NEED SLEEP! DARN IT DISNEY!!!!!
YOU'LL SLEEP WHEN DISNEY DEMANDS IT!
I never get tired of this song
deputyseal409 same
deputyseal409 no one does it’s so 80’s and So Disney
I used to watch this movie a lot. I love all the songs in this movie.
Me neither!! *bobbing head, sings along with a gleeful grin*
Odd how it never gets any airplay on Disney Channel.
HAPPY 34TH BIRTHDAY TO OLIVER AND COMPANY
I'm 32 now
I like how Dodger participates and dances to the song but he mostly just kicks back and let’s his friends have the spotlight.
I miss Disney when it was like this.. beautiful art and music
As well as passion and ingenuity.
this >>>>> uptown funk
Way better than Uptown Funk. If this had been released by a more current singer it would have been loved despite the lyric meanings. It's bullshit, kids have no taste in good music.
i feel sorry 4 em and myself because we're born in 90s
The two songs are good! My opinion.
I love Ruth Pointer- but Sheryl Lee Ralph- Rita's voice- is a tony nominated singer and actress and she totally could have sung this
Whoa, I didn't knew that, now I will always wonder how this song could sound with Sheryl's voice.
Why DIDN'T they create this song with Sheryl's voice provided?
I didn't even know who sung this, thanks!
I've heard some voice actors asked this question at conventions. Apparently having to sing AND voice act (and go through a lot of takes to get it right) will absolutely ROAST your vocal cords. That, and sometimes it's cheaper to pay a singer for a one-off than to pay an actor overtime.
+Miguel Cuervo
Well, Billy Joel did it. But he's also an artist first.
I imagine that Disney just wanted big names for their contemporary soundtrack and Sheryl's wasn't big enough.
One of the most underrated movies in my opinion. The other is The Great Mouse Detective.
Can't believe I watched this video 15 years ago. Feels like a whole other world now lookin' back.
"Thou shalt not get caught" lol
😂
I'm 62 and have this on vhs and cassette, took my kids to the theater to watch. Love Oliver and Rita
RITA IS AWESOME
This full song was criminally excluded from the movie 😭💔
Everytime I watched the film, when he howls and the other dogs come running, you can see other dogs from other films, like Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians, ect.
I never knew Billy Joel, Joey Lawrence and Bette Midler were voices in this movie. This is such a great 80's song 😺
I remember I had two choices at the theater see this movie…or see the land before Time.
Though I did pick land before time I did so under the pretense that I would see this movie on VHS which really never seem to happen it’s one of those Disney products that kind of got swept under the rug just like with the black cauldron. It took like years for this film to finally get distributed by Disney. So it’s funny that I could’ve saw it back when I was eight and didn’t really see it till I was almost 17.
But if you're tough
And always use your head
You'll feel right at home on the street
I wanna find more 80s songs that kinda sound like this ;w; ♡
+Morgan Cat me too :(((
Same
Pretty sure the genre is New Jack Swing.
Anyone know of any popular 80s hip hop songs a lot like this? It’s damn catchy.
Whoever that light brown dog is who has dark brown human-like hair, MAN she looks fine! Something about this art style just gets to me.
Rockin' Fox AJ
What a pretty name!
Rita?
I love this song
Anyone here in 2021.. most underrated Disney movie ever ❤️ wish the full song made it into the movie
But still forgettable
@@RPGFlare64 Unforgettable, how many times do I have to tell you?
@@danielledewitt1 maybe 8 who knows besides I'm making the sequel
@@RPGFlare64 If you don’t like it don’t watch.
@@danielledewitt1 I don’t hate the song at all it’s just not that memorable If you love it more power to you
I LOVE the scenery animation in this movie! Very similar to "the Iron Giant."
Brad Bird studied at a school started by Walt and staffed by some of his animators. I wonder how many CalArts alumni were assigned to this film.
My dad made me grow up on watching the old Disney movies and I still watch them time to time still love the old movies
Yep. Not the new ones they suck not all of them but most of them are crap. Like wish 🤮🤢
This song just screams 80s! I love it but this movie's so underrated...
Remind me again why they didn’t even bother using the entire time in this movie? This song was lit 🔥
I know had the full song been in the movie it probably would've been the most sung disney song along side Why should I worry.
@@matthewballon7553 That’s the truth right there
My guess would be time constraints.
That’s what I thought too
I listened to the Disney storyteller audio cassette and they played it longer
It baffles me they cut the song so short in the actual movie
Grrrr
I really underrated this movie, but ever since I watched it a month ago I am OBSESSED with it! It is so amazing!
I love Rita XD Was my favorite character when I was young.
Rita and Georgette was my sister's favorite Dogs when me and Her watched this movie when we were kids

Great movie I saw in theaters 3 times when it came out when I was 6 and I had stuff from McDonald’s toys, soundtrack, t shirt, stuffed oliver, coloring books, readalong and that kind of stuff.
It took a hell of a long time from 88 to 96 to get to video, I remember at 7 being disappointed that it never came to video and I had to wait years. I also saw the reissue in middle school with my friends who too remember seeing it in theaters as younger ones and I got the movie on video for Christmas at 14 after years of waiting and I own it on blu.
Underrated classic
If they ever made a tv show off this movie showing their shenanigans and then the bad guys does something and then the all team up and stop him and then it starts all over again in the the next episode. This video would be the opening to introduce the characters.
Bette Midler, Billy Joel and Ruth Pointer this is like an 80's kid dream musical. How was it so underrated?
This gem was unfortunately made in the Disney dark age preceding Walt Disneys death, a time when their animated movies were overlooked, thanks to this movie and the little mermaid the Disney reinnasance started and some of the other great movies were made!
It actually did good business, but was a bit outclassed by Bluth’s “The Land Before Time. And then Disney put out “The Little Mermaid,” and this faded into the background.
I just want to remind everybody, Rita's VA was one of the original Dreamgirls.
This is forever my jam!!!
Isaiah Saulsberry Mine too
Never heard this version but I only heard the Disney version from the sing along video back in the day.
they don't make Disney sings with the same soul anymore. I mean you can FEEL the soul in this one
I remember when my parents gave me this movie on a video tape in 1998. Still love it, and it's been 16 yrs since
Rita is one of my favorite female dogs
Who played her?
@@jaredbrown3249Sheryl Lee Ralph
I love the song & all but it would be better if if Disney can add it as part of the musical songs from the 80’s it would fun & exciting🇺🇸🕶🎼🎵🎶👌🏻
rita x dodger is one of the cutest pairings ever xx
I ship them.
Julia Gardenhire You responded to a year-old comment... to talk about shipping two animated dogs from the 80s.
Don't care.
:/
I don’t see it . I get vibes of some Oliver x Dodger
call me a furry or whatever you want, i just plain love this song X3
....Furry isn't an insult. I'm a furry so...
Liking animals doesn't make you a furry.
Cancerous cult? Seriously?
But yeah, don't feel bad about being called a furry; people act like assholes on the internet - it's like a gigantic biker bar for nerds. Don't let the judgemental pricks who can't handle anything outside their bubbles get you down.
It’s pretty cancerous, do you want me to post links for some of the furry porn websites? Because there are a lot.
What's wrong with porn? It makes fapping fun. ;)
Anyway you really shouldn't generalize. There's way more to the community than se - eh never mind you probably won't listen. Just don't hate, okay bud?
80s music is so catchy
Same for 90s music!
My favorite Oliver song
I love this movie
-Darkwing Duck taught me you don't need special abilities to get the job done
-Scrooge McDuck taught me to earn my way to the top
-Launchpad McQuack Taught me to get back up everytime you fall
-Goofy Taught me to laugh at myself and to keep smiling
-Goliath taught me to look at the world with an open mind
-Beast taught me to never judge a book by its cover
-Peter Pan taught me 2 believe
-Baloo taught me how to let loose
-Mickey Mouse taught me to always think positive follow my dreams.
Best song in the movie.
Oliver & Company was amazing. A great story based on a greater story, and it worked well with a star studded cast even before Little Mermaid was released.
The Great Mouse Detective, (another great story created in a similar vein) had Vincent Price, but Oliver & Company had Billy Joel, Bette Midler, Dom DeLuise, Roscoe Lee Browne, Cheech Marin, and then Ruth Pointer recording one of the songs.
Both films came out as Wells, Eisner, Katzenberg, Menken, and Ashman were building what would be known as the renaissance of Disney animation, and it's amazing to see that they put that much faith in a film pre-Mermaid.
I actually saw both GMD and O&C when they first came out in the 80s when i was 4 31 years ago (saw GMD 3 times in theaters when i lived in St Louis and had a stuffed Basil and a readalong with cassette) an d O&C (3 times in theaters even after New Year's day) at age 6 at the movies when i lived in Omaha nearly 30 years ago and i had some O&C merchandise like a couple of shirts, stuffed Oliver from Sears, readalong with cassette, junior novel, CD Soundtrack from Santa (my first CD), glass with Oliver and Dodger, Mcdonald singing ornuments for the trees every christmas and Mcdonald toys. I also saw Little Mermaid 2 times in theaters at age 7 and had Mcdonald toys.
Cool eh? although i remembered wanting both GMD and O&C on video as a kid but was pissed off they didn't, however i also did saw GMD when it was re-issued 25 years ago in theaters when i was 9 going on 10 3 times even on a field trip with classmates in Albuquerque and got the movie on video for christmas at 10. I even saw O&C when it was reissued when i was 14 as i remembered in middle school that my friends saw the TV spots and we shared our memories of seeing the movie when it first came out when we were little and also being pissed off how it never came to video over the years, i even got the movie on VHS when it finally came out 21 years ago for Christmas. I enjoy both movies for nostalgia you know to more simpler times and GMD is number 11 on my top 20 favorite Disney animated movies with O&C 14.
Happy birthday to Oliver and company
I wonder how come they didn't include the whole song in the film.
Too long. It can't go much further than ninety minutes.
because disney don't want to be seen in a bad light...
and (they think) it promots stealing...
IKR
0:43 I like how they move

Rita is awesome!! plus she's better looking than Georgette, and a better character role wise; while one is busy being vain and conceded, the other on is street smart and cocky.
Imagine what would happen if Rita met Georgette who got drunk like a skunk. It would be like this:
Rita: Hello? Georgette, are you here?
Georgette: (hiccups) I'm here, Rita (hiccups again).
Rita: Oh my god, are you drunk?
Georgette: Nah, I'm good.
Dodger: She got drunk as soon as you started singing a song better than hers.
Rita: I can't believe you are off the wagon, Georgette! After all that song I sang you are doing alcoholism!
Georgette: (hiccups) Hey, if I was drunk, could I do this? (Whispering) Hey Francis, do the alphabet backwards.
Francis starts saying alphabet backwards while Georgette is mouthing his words: Z, Y, X, W, V, U, T, S, R, Q, P, O, N, M, K, J, I, H, G, F, E, D, C, B, A.
Rita: C'mon, that's Francis.
Georgette: No, It's still me. (in British accent) I just sound classy and British sometimes, see?
Rita: Alright, lets get you some medicine before you-(Georgette starts vomiting)
Georgette: Oh, i don't feel so good (continues vomiting).
Rita: Just clean yourself with your hair ribbon, girl!
Georgett: Oh yeah, you would like that, wouldn't you? To get my ribbon dirty.
Rita: You can wash it when it gets dirty, Georgette!
Georgette: I think I'm gonna take a nap (falls into her vomit).
Rita: Fine, go drown in your own vomit, you don't live on the streets anyway (leaves).
crazy like a time machine, fills like im in the 80's (:

But despite that, this movie will forever be my favorite because I grew up watching it I remember watching it when I was like four my mom would ask what i wanted to watch and it would either b e Hercules or Oliver and Company.
This song is amazing! I don't even have to watch Oliver and Company in order to cry over it lolol
I love this song plus I would be cool if they made a live-action version of this movie

The old Disney films truly do kid the new ones asses. They had better not make a live action remake, or else I will break some stuff.

I know, right? I miss the old Disney too. I'm sorry, nowadays, in my book... They've just gone downhill. This was when I loved them, and felt like I could still dream... Or when I was still excited about going to Disneyland. They've just... changed too much and not really in a good way. Long live the older, awesome stuff like this.
