Pointer Sisters need to be in the Rock and roll hall of Fame 2023, only 2 members left, and they've given us 50+years of amazing music/performances. It's time, Pointer Sisters for Rock&Roll HoF 2023!
I agree wholeheartedly… By my perspective… it would have done nothing but benefit the movie… Not just because it is a BANGER in its entirety… but it would have served as a good montage for Oliver working with the Doggie Gang… given them even more of a chance to establish their quick relation. Which would have made Oliver’s choice to go with Jenny over staying with the gang all the more impactful and understandable in how it could hurt Dodger and the Gang.

I grew up with Oliver and company the movie I was a 95 baby and I fell in love with this song watching that HOWEVER I not too long ago realized that when they put the music to the movie soundtrack whatever that the words the characters were saying before the songs were the exact same words in the soundtrack when it was put on the CD and I also realized not only the same voice and version of the song but even though the song came shorter in the film the characters still played well with the words on the animation as well as my ultimate favorite from Billy Joel with "Why should I worry" shine I'm a young woman and had it not been for film creators putting the oldy goldies into the newer movies us millennials wouldn't know anything about the age ya'll grew up in or shine even before ya'll were born like my grandfather he grew up in the great depression as a little boy! So yeah if it wasn't for ya'll teaching us about it or filmmakers bringing it back to our eyes and ears we'd never know. So Ruth Billy Joel Ya'll are absolutely Amazing love your music keep on rocking back then and beyond and as well as the artist I remember or haven't even heard yet. Imma go jump into the history of old music and see who else I can listen to I'm loving this time travel! Lol 😉 Chow! 👋
@@themoviebuff1425 Billy joel I believe may have been the original artist I like to see the ones they show for the latest but I also enjoy looking up the original artist and their original version and then see the spins on it over the years. How few words change or a slight change in the rythm due to copyright issues ect.
Can’t believe it’s taken me this long to find this! The only thing that would make this sheer perfection would be this in a one hour loop (or even more)! Sorry replay button.
You know, Billy Joel's "Why Should I Worry" and Bette Midler "Perfect Isn't Easy" took up half this film's runtime, but Ruth's "Streets of Gold" receives barely a moment to shine; it's criminal.
I have questions: The CD soundtrack came out in 1995 due to Re-release of the movie, right? So, is this long version that recorded one in 1988 or Disney decided Ruth Pointer sang a long version of the same song for 1995 soundtrack? I'm not sure but re-realase was in 1996, wasn´t?

I'm city child and this song gives me so much joyful pride. I'll continue to grow old loving this song
Y'all this is the version in the movie. It's almost criminal it wasn't extended though.
it's just a shame that this version never made it into the final movie.
I'm glad they MADE a full version. Whoo! x)
Rowan Sales I wished it was released on VHS in 1989, rather than wait until its rerelease in 1996.
Now that I agree with
if I recall correctly the full version is on one of the Disney Sing Along Songs on VHS
I agree wholeheartedly…

The classic story with a Disney twist

Disney didin't release it on DVD into 1995.
but still a valid point.

Jerry Hey!
Singing voice of Rita from Oliver and company
Ding ding ding
Rita
you mean 1988 right?
blacksultan85 yep the movie came out in 1988
If I wasn't attracted by a hot Disney Princess, a Saluki with makeup would be better
I mean, she does have some amazing hair that defies logic.
I loved Rita! She was my favourite of the Street Dogs.

Rita from O&C resembles Ruth from this pic.
The artists probably did that on purpose by including frizzy hair into the character.
So that's the girl who sings this song? I think it's appropriate to have a dog in this picture.
+Marcelo Esteban Mauricio True Oliver is a cat but this was song was sang by Roxanne, if I remember the dog's name right, of who was a dog.
That breed would be a 'Saluki'.
+Marcelo Esteban Mauricio I couldn't remember what the name but I know it started with a R. So thanks.
The dogs name was Rita
