The composition is nifty, but the performance really makes this. I'm astonished that this is just two performers, and their shared sense of timing is incredible.
The composition is what makes the performance lol. Like yeah, they performed it beautifully, but anyone performing the composition correctly would do the same. Not saying it's easy I just think it's funny you value the performance over the composition.
What about the composition ? It's a percussion piece and you can reduce the most important to 5 or 6 : Rebounds, Ionisation, Les Guetteurs de son, …they do a real job, of amazing taste…and the As One title is enough to understand the composition, no ?
In high school I had the amazing and wonderful privilege to play with some of the most talented percussionists I have ever known. This reminds of the many times watching in awe of their artistry. Thanks for the memories. You all know who you are.
Marvellous performance by two REAL Drummers. Impeccable timing together, great tempos, and excellent work moving in and out of different time signatures. Wonderful. Thank you.
Might sounds really cheesy but in a way this is a physical representation of what humanity could be like if everything was ideal. Not realistically, but theoretically. It's beautiful, even as a dream
Every single time I went through this piece I found something new that had been overlooked in the previous run. Every time my brain melts and I have to come back to it and give it yet another listen.
"I've got and idea," said Gene Koshinski, while drunk from vodka, "How about I have two people splitting one thing on one hand and split a completely different thing on another hand?" Gene twiddled his thumbs and began envisioning his new piece that would be called As One.
I was having exactly the same thoughts as both of you :) Then the mind naturally strays to what if...Bruford and Bozzio set out to play this piece...and then how would they alter it given electronic percussion &cet...and then...just listen to it again
My best friend and I in high school bought and practiced this for hours, days and weeks. Never came close. Almost 10 years later and still cannot come close to the incredible performance these two put on and most likely never will. Well, maybe in another 10-20 years give or take 😂
jazzyfizzle so lets say there are 2 people, and they play 4 quarter notes together. Person 1 plays notes on 1 and 3, and person 2 plays notes on 2 and 4. Thats basically what splits are kinda.
Tries to work out time signature: Brain melts This was one of the most impressive pieces of performance art I have ever experienced!!! Glad I was wearing headphones to get more of the nuances. Well done gentlemen.
a sublime, gorgeous, and perfect illustration of using elements: "home" "tension" and "variation".. .musically. These three ingredients, in my opinion, are the basics for absolutely ALL art forms, of any kind. What makes it special.. is one more ingredient: "surprise"..... xo
This was awesome, great stuff and the other videos of these guys as well. The only issue, is that is was too short and I wanted more lol. Have no fear "loop" is here. For all of you who do not know this, you can right click the play button and then click "loop" for it to replay as soon as it is over. Do this with all your favs that are short so you do not have too go back to your device to click it again. Also, if you never want ads on your YT or web pages, I have been using ad blocker plus for years and its free and awesome. I have seen comments where they say you can scroll the video to the end, then click play and the ads are not there; not sure as I dont have to do that. Love and Peace to all Lifeforms. Love Chris
I see I watched this a year ago and commented that it is amazing. Well, the second time through was even more amazing ! Looking forward to the 3rd viewing....
In terms of the piece, this may be one of few times I understand the people who can call a piece of music "uninspired technical wankery." That being said, holy shit the performers are ridiculously good. This work may only exist to showcase how talented some people are but it works, those two dudes are obviously talented and we have been shown this.
The composition is nifty, but the performance really makes this. I'm astonished that this is just two performers, and their shared sense of timing is incredible.
John Ladasky it is called “as one”
John Ladasky kinda the point of a percussion duo, specially for a duet titled “as one”

Really?
this is the soundtrack to the hardest crash bandicoot level ever
LOL So true
kkkkkk
Yooooo I'm high as a kite watching this and was thinking the same thing. Lol

- No, I wanna play the marimba.

underrated comment XD
this is the most impressive exhibition of coordination and coupling I have ever seen
Watch the free internet pornography; it has both in abundance.

”Hey so have you written the second part yet?”
”Ah damn! I forgot... but wait...
*I have an even better idea* ”
The fact that there is no metronome going is just showing how solid their timing really is.
dude they are the metronome.
Splits on splits on splits, then they split different different subdivisions on different hands! Splitception....
After only 20 years of practice, these two percussionists finally preformed their piece.

Huh
People, this are individuals who worked their life for such talent. This is pure musicianship.
This takes splits to a whole different level
Ethan Lyons those aren't even splits, they're like the same freaking person 😂

Damn new Donkey Kong OST sounds amazing
That was my first thought too

Smoking weed?
Yes, it could be the reality.
I have to watch it again. The only thing i could hear the first time was the sound of my brain melting in astonishment
Every single time I went through this piece I found something new that had been overlooked in the previous run. Every time my brain melts and I have to come back to it and give it yet another listen.
The level of coordination, concentration, and timing you would need for this is insane
これはすごい!!!
なんていうか、飽きずに最後まで見れる
息ぴったりだし、叩いた時の音色同じだしとりあえずすごい!!!!

He for sure twiddle his thumbs
Him with all his pieces😭
I'm just amazed at the sense of time these people have. This is some extremely hard stuff to pull off without messing up time. Bravo to those lads

time signatures? where we are going, we dont neeed, time signatures

bidibum I was thinking the exact same thing. Sounds like Drumsons
I was thinking more of Carl Palmer (ELP) but there's some overlap there because of Greg Lake's time with Fripp.
This is true left and right independence
This was incredible.
Awe inspiring.
Too bad you will never be incredible, noob.
David Jenkins You’re right. You’ll miss me when I’m gone.
This is incredible....or That was incredible...never "

Please tell me why this does not have over 10 million views? What a composition and performance. Kudos and bravo!!!
Talk about clean
Fantastically musical, not just a showpiece. Loved the dynamics and pacing of the whole thing.
OK that page turn looked so satisfying
Watched this once more this morning, It gets better every time.

Carl Dupre it is absolutely frackin amazing! I can't stop watching it and thinking about it and your comment comes along with it.
Lol! I myself said the same words at the same spot! Great comment and synchronicity!
How could anyone actually dislike this? This is beautiful.
This is one of those gems that you favorite and show friends you know will greatly appreciate it
FANTASTIC !!! THANK YOU !!!! THE GREAT TERRY BOZZIO WILL BE PROUD !!!!
If only our world’s leaders could work together like this...

This is so complex , clean mind melting, As a percussionist I am still taking it in.
l'effet "miroir", la musique, ce sens rythmique d'un autre monde, cette improbable chorégraphie : c'est presque surréaliste, voir "dada". Chapeau !
Awesome! Kept my attention the whole time
I think I can see and hear a middle influence of musical theater and repetitive music…quite beautiful ! Bravissimi !!!
this time signature gives me ANXIETY
Which one?
Time signature has left the chat
would you believe it's 6/8? ... well mostly ;) They also speed up and slow down the main pulse so there are confusing moments
Well, in that case ... you should never listen to Farmer's Market. Try dancing to this: pcGPT3QlRmM

How? How does someone's mind work like that? It was breaking my brain just watching them. I will never be this talented.
Wow, the performance by the two of you, so in tune with each other, was great.
I think you mean "so in time with each other". In tune wouldn't make sense.
That's an incredibly well performed piece. Really amazing independence and timing. Wow
Thanks for coming to my school u guys rock

AMAZING, TIMBRE, CLIMAX, THE COMPOSITION, DYNAMICS..... WHEN YOU ARE PLAYING YOU ARE ONE. ¡MUSIC OF SPHERES. CONGRATULATION!!!
That gave me chills the whole way through.
great job, fantastic playing, and a very funny tune !!!!!!!!
Best percussion video I’ve ever seen.
What did I just watch?!!! I kept getting scared that they would mess up! OMG! Phwew, so good!
Good stuff. Congrats Gene and Tim.
Amazing. I want a marimba like that. Love the symmetry on camera.
Never seen splits like this with a marimba in the setup. Great work!
What wonderful music, and the three consecutive passages are very cool even though the two of them are playing together.
I love this kind of music.
Is there ANY room for forgiveness in this piece? How would one recover? Just beautiful! Thank you for this gift!!!
