    I hadn't seen the facing pieces yet. That was a big addition and I think it adds a lot of value to this great pattern. I enjoyed the sew-along, too. All of your outfits with this vest are SO good!

    I love this vest so much and plan to make it soon! It reminds me of the 90's when I made a vest for myself and then both my sisters liked it so much I sewed one for each sister!

    Well that is just the cutest outfit...seriously cute....I'm so glad I bought this vest pattern. It really has a higher end quality to it as opposed to some of the other vest patterns I've seen...and omg when you said you made some gumbo it made me want some so bad. Papa (my great grandfather) made the best gumbo ever. I still have a dark brown beer bottle cleaned out and filled with file' that my uncle Mannie gave me years ago...that file' is dead as a door nail but I just can't throw it out...lol ...it's become a touchable memory that takes me back to my roots..

      Thanks, Cathleen! Gumbo (homemade!) is the best comfort food, right?! Gotta have that file powder! I am a sucker for all the southerm/cajun comfort foods. And I love to cook (planning some old fashioned chicken and dumplings for dinner tonight) :)

      @@PatternScout I had a reply written and accidently deleted it. Lord knows it was prob too long..lol..but yes, homemade gumbo is the best comfort food ever...and so is chicken and dumplings. You guys are eating good tonight. The best dumplings I ever had was at this little out of the way bar and grill in Mobile. One of the ladies that worked there made them and she rolled them out...they literally melted in your mouth. I haven't been very lucky rolling mine out. I usually do little droppers. I love to cook too, mainly cooking the southern foods I grew up eating. I'm making smothered port chops tonight...Enjoy those dumplins...yum

    My husband bought me a set of cast iron pots and pans. Money I made a roasted chicken in the pot and Wednesday I made beef stew. It’s just the two of us so we don’t mind left overs. He really liked all of it especially when I made fried cabbage! Yes! I do cook during the week but Friday and Saturday we eat out. On Sunday he cooks brunch and we wing it or we will cook together.

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  Рік тому

      Oh that ALL sounds delicious!! We will eat gumbo for days--just gets better with time in the fridge I think :)

    Thank you for this tutorial, as well as the revised pattern that I just received. Constructing a vest (or any similarly shaped garment) with facings and lining can be tricky because of all of the joining of convex to concave curves, so this video is gold! I generally prefer the edge-to-edge lining method of the original version of the Birch, but there are definitely times when faced edges would be preferable. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite UA-camrs. Thanks again. ❤️

    I feel ya on the lack of sunshine - in Grand Rapids we had 5 MINUTES of sunshine between Dec 31st -Jan. 8th. And from Nov. 30 - Jan. 8 we had less than 10% of possible sunshine. It has been brutal with the constant gray skies! But we FINALLY have sunshine all day today, so I'm definitely going outside, regardless of the temperature!

    Nice! I like that you walked through your process, a few of the things you mentioned, I wouldn't have thought of right off. I also like that you shared so many ways to style it. I've seen a few nice vest and pant outfits and have an itch to make a set of my own but didn't have many ideas of how to actually wear a vest aside from pairing it with a button down shirt underneath.

    Awesome new pattern, Casey! I should make one to go over my Byrdie button up, which I FINALLY finished last Sunday! The instructions for that was AWESOME, my cuffs, collar, button bands ALL CAME OUT PHENOMENALLY! I didn’t have to make any adjustments! She looks real good on me! I will be posting a whole lot of pics and a raving review on my Instagram tomorrow! The Byrdie is my tried and true for a traditional, professional button up! Thank you!

    For viewers who are beginners or intermediate, projects thst have so many pieces and curved, would be best if you use different colors for bottoms, sides and so on. That way we can differentiate one piece from another. I know you may be doing this for yourself, but for teaching purposes, would be best for us. You don't have to use expensive fabrics, you can even use scraps of fabrics to show the difference from one piece to the next. Just a suggestion.

    Have you thought of getting a daylight bulb for the ceiling light? I have one in my sewing room and it is excellent!

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  Рік тому

      Oh I have plenty of lighting (I have four really bright lights with daylight bulbs).😅 They are fantastic for task lighting, but artificial light doesn't look as great on camera and I try to use natural light as much as possible, so it's a challenge to make the artificial daylight bulbs look more natural.

  • @ginagonzalez6547
    @ginagonzalez6547 Рік тому +1

    If you own the house, you could work towards having recess lighting throughout the ceiling especially where you need lighting the most.

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  Рік тому

      We rent :) But I do use extra lighting specifically for filming--I just prefer the natural light and have to adjust camera settings on these gloomy days!

    Do you do sew alongs with marketed patterns? I have a beginners pattern from McCalls and it would be great if I could find a sew along. It’s McCalls m8213. It’s a summer tiered dress. I’m going to do the straps not the ties. My dilemma is can make the bodice high enough and bring in straps a little from the arm pits. I had a lumpectomy in 2019 and my divot is right over my heart down about an inch into my armpit. I was very lucky that my surgeon was able to avoid taking any of my breast. I was very lucky in my treatments and recovery. You are never 100% after but I am a survivor.

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  Рік тому

      I don't normally do those--have you checked other creators here on UA-cam? You might be able to find a video for it by searching the pattern name. Looks like a cute dress! Seems like it would be a good one to customize!

    I bought the pattern today and have it printed and assembled. I'm just going to cut it out and go through my stash of toile fabric tonight so I can start sewing tomorrow. I'm super excited to get some nicer layering pieces in my wardrobe, one cannot live on hoodies alone lol. Thank you for the sew a long and pattern!
    * I just noticed that even though I printed the D cup version (says so on page one) the actual pattern pieces say C cup. Is that a typo or did I make a mistake printing it out somehow?
