Kate is more than just a great singer. She's a true artist in every sense of the word. There's a reason I named my only child after her. Even if he gets pissed about it sometimes.
I absolutely love that song too, first heard it as the B side to Wuthering heights' and thought it was a much stronger song, but Chod might not be keen with it being still in her teenage higher range.
@@MrDiddyDee the B-side to "Wuthering Heights" was a song called "Kite". "The Man with the child in his eyes" was released as her second single (allthough it had been written years before "WH").
You need to watch her videos. Kate Bush is a true Artistic Genius. She choreographs her own dancing/ mime to go along with her musical and lyrical arrangements. She produces and directs as well. You might be surprised at how many artists have been influenced or are in awe of Kate's work.
I can't pick a favourite. All of her work stands the test of time, she is a truly gifted artist, a universal attachment comes with this wonderful woman. Even in original form the covers just brings this to another audience, that's timeless,
"This Woman's Work" is that rare song that can bring a man to tears with every listen. And Kate disliked her vocals on the original 1979 release of "Wuthering Heights" & re-recorded the song in 1986, titled: "Wuthering Heights (New Vocal)". Worth checking out. More Kate: "The Sensual World" (the official video is 🔥)
She never disliked her vocals on her original "Wuthering Heights" version (1978). She just decided to record new vocals for "The Whole Story" (her 1986 compilation) because she thought there was no point releasing a compilation under the pressure of her record label unless there was no new song on it. That's why there was also a new song on it called "Experiment IV". I think she was really proud of what she achieved vocally on the original version of "Wuthering Heights" as she put much effort on it.
This song is so beautiful and heart wrenching for me. My mother passed away in 2019 and I always think of her and the sacrifices and work she put in to raising all four of us and how much she loved us and our daddy when I hear this song, and it never fails to bring me to tears.
Try ''The Man with the Child in his Eyes'', written by Kate when she was just 13 and recorded at 16. Shows that her voice, even at that young age, was beautiful. Not a 'screech' anywhere!
Sometimes there is justice in the world. I hope Kate Bush is aware she is gaining new fans by tge day among the youngest generations thanks to the popularity of Stranger Things. Its so deserved.
Love the reaction. I first heard this song in a movie called 'She's Having A Baby,' and cried the ugly cry. I couldn't help but to see a parallel between the song & the situation with your mother-in-law. I'm sending all the healing vibes available from Texas. May she make a full recovery soon. 🙏🏻
My understanding is that it was written specifically for the movie. The director, John Hughes, reached out to her to write a song for the scene, and sent her the footage, which had already been shot. I think what he got was something beyond his wildest dreams.
She does this song from the man’s point of view. True genius. I’ll mention it again, Mother Stands For Comfort, best bass ever. Oddly, she’s one of the reasons I play bass...
Once you start exploring Kate's music, you quickly discover how much of an artistic genius she really is (she is HIGHLY respected and admired by fellow musicians, critics, fans, and people in the music industry for her originality, innovation, and artistic brilliance). She is a true pioneer for women in music, as she was one of the first female artists to take total control of her work and produce her own records (she also develop the first cordless headset microphone with her sound engineer to be used in a live tour). She not only has a beautiful 4 octave voice, but she is also an accomplished composer, lyricist, pianist, dancer, mime, choreographer, record producer, film-maker and director. I would suggest viewing and reacting to her video of "The Sensual World" and "Love And Anger" (featuring her mentor David Gilmour from Pink Floyd) off of this same album, or "Moments of Pleasure." I also suggest that you react to some of her later works, like "King Of The Mountain," or "How To Be Invisible," (from her 2005 masterpiece Aerial lp). Kate is still very relevant and influential - her 2014 concert series of 22 shows sold out over 100,000 tickets in less than 15 minuets (a record for the Hammersmith Apollo) and that same year she became the first woman to have 8 albums in the Top 40 at the same time (and 3rd behind only Elvis and The Beatles).
Kate wrote the song and recorded it decades ago. I first heard it while watching figure skating. It is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs ever written.
Oh boy, I knew them all (mostly) ... and she is one of a kind. Not only her vocals ... she is one greatest songwriter with a lot of influence to the european music. Can't understand you problems with her unusual voice and art of singing. Everything she does has a meaning ... also her voice on wuthering heights.
If you can listen with video, you’ll see her true depth and creativity. She is a performance artist and meant to be seen. Singer, songwriter, musician, dancer, choreographer. Try Sensual World. ✌️
I remember Maxwell's cover of this song - I think at the time it was closer to the time she released her own (In 1989) - about 6 years (Maxwell's version in 1996) so some people knew it was a cover. The song was featured in John Hughes film "She's Having A Baby," also in 1989, giving the song more exposure in the mainstream. Maxwell's version is beautiful too, but he doesn't change it much. The only difference is he gives it a little more of an R&B sound vocally. This one makes me cry every time. Stunning. Thanks for your great reaction.
This brought me to tears. Perhaps it is because I am reading "A Farewell to Arms" and in the final scene the women dies in childbirth. Kate delivers the lyrics in a hushed fragile way, speaking the lyrics and reminds me so much of Peter Gabriel. Not surprising since they are friends and worked together. The video is haunting.
OMG, I've been following your journey with Kate Bush. I do recall your reaction to her song Wuthering Heights and the high octave she was in on that song. But I totally understand it does take some time to get used to her music catalogue. She has written many different songs and styles. She experimented, wrote, produced and choreographed her own music. This Woman's Work was from her Album Sensual world. Her music is amazing and it does take some time to get used to. But This Woman's Work is an amazing song. Maxwell credited Kate Bush in his concert saying how much of an amazing artist and songwriter she is. She has some diverse music. If you want something heavy from her the song Rocket Tail in her Sensual World Album is amazing. It's like she is soaring up into the sky. The music video to This Woman's Work is heart-wrenching.
Great reaction... her stuff is all over the place. Glad you found the stuff you enjoyed, and I'm glad you kept trying too. Not all of her stuff is going to appeal to everyone, but I'm glad you can appreciate her diversity.

Jeffrey Kennedy Yep. He paid for the professional "demos" which secured her record contract at 16 years of age. By that time she'd written more than 50 songs.

Director John Hughes asked Kate to write a song for a certain scene in his 1988 movie "She's Having a Baby." Hughes used the song during the film's dramatic climax, when husband (Kevin Bacon) learns that the lives of his wife (Elizabeth McGovern) and their unborn child are in danger. As the song plays, the film shows a montage sequence of flashbacks showing the couple in happier times, intercut with shots of him waiting for news of his wife and their baby's condition.
