- On Veterans Day Weekend, 2012, 1937-built ALCO 2-8-0 #60 returned to public excursion for the first time in 12 years! Although the engine pulled a few trips for testing purposes, these trips were the first steam powered excursions advertised to the public. In this video, #60 will pass our camera at multiple locations along the railroad. We've included scenes from both Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th.
We start off with #60 being prepared for a day in the spotlight. Many railfans from all over the east coast came to witness and ride behind this husky consolidation. For many, this was their first time witnessing #60 in action. For others, it brought back great memories from the past when #60 ran regularly on the BR&W.
Come with us on this journey into the Garden State, as we follow Black River & Western #60 over this former Pennsylvania Railroad branch line.
With a whistle like that, how could anyone be disappointed? lol
Great Video! 60 is one heck of an engine!
Aw man, this took place on my 21st birthday, guess where I would have rather been!!! Shooting steam in NJ that's for sure! The shot across the river and also at Copper Hill Road were definitely the best scenes in this excellent video!
Spectacular! I love the "Hunterdon Concrete" angle, never thought of that before...
Wow... You just got to love what a dramatic entrance it makes as it emits a large cloud of steam during its grand reawakening.
Great video, man! 60's a beaut
It is indeed a wonderful whistle, has a great sound.
That angle with the cement plant would be awesome for a night photo. If the owners would be willing to do that.
Fabulous video, very happy to see another STEAM Locomotive back up and running
Thank you! You won't be disappointed when you do go see 60 in person.
Thank you Richard! I'm glad you enjoyed the video; and it's humbling that you as a subscriber also acknowledge the hard work of the volunteer. I might've made a video on 60, but there wouldn't be a video of 60 running in 2012 if it weren't for them.
Excellent. It's tough to avoid the "trains in a shopping mall effect".
Nice. Can't wait to get up there to see her this year
Very nice adam!!!
Good one, Adam. But I wouldn't expect less from you.
It had a beautiful 3-chimed whistle 😃
Thanks Eric! Too bad you missed out, we woulda made it a worth-while birthday extravaganza! I mean after all, 21 is pretty important. Glad you enjoyed the video... Copper Hill Rd was my favorite spot as well.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Thanks dude! She sure is.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.
Outstanding work as always! Cannot wait to see her for myself!
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
Awesome! We hoped this video helped you relive some of that visit.
Thanks Jamie! This is my #1 catch of 2012.
Thank you Lee! It was good seeing you on this weekend!
Great vid.
Well now you know! Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video Adam! Probably the best I've seen from these trips.
Perfect !!
Thank you, and yes she is!
Excellent video
Another old girl gets to enjoy life again!
That's right! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Thank you Kevin!
Very nice video! Super!
Glad you liked it Jim!
This locomotive needs to do a doubleheader with Strasburg's #90. Think of how incredible - how beautiful - that would be. To GW locomotives... I'm imagining a photo freight run by, eh?
+WalkerJC3 This could only be done on Strasburg however. #90 could never fit around the curves. Actually, I do recall a Black River diesel being leased to Strasburg a few months ago. The engine might still be there. But at least this means the two railroads have established contact with each other.
+RaritanRiverRailroadFan4 that diesel might be Maine and eastern 764.
That would be cool. If they had faces and minds like Thomas and friends characters I wonder if they knew each other and would be happy to see each other?
Jonathan Mason please don't bring that up JUST PLEASE DONT

How many of you heard geese honking at the last clip?
Great...sds.Hi....
cool
Awesome video! Awesome Train!! This train looks awesome. 2 bad alco Went out of business:( I think itd be realy cool if you guys had a documentary on how this train was restored & you showed the process it took & interviewed the people who restored it and give a history of where the train started out, like who it was built for. You ever done any videos like that on other steam trains? Would you happen to know when this train was retired from service? Was this train originally a passenger train?
I was there
Upper right corner at 6:54. Ghoul?
