  • With the holiday of July 4th and 247 years since the United State's Declaration of Independence, the New Hope Railroad would fire up their steam locomotive, #40. The 1925 Baldwin built product of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania would take charge of the classic excursions between New Hope and Lahaska. The stocky consolidation would speed through the woods of Bucks County with the melody of a Reading 6 chime and a trio of steel coaches featuring a red caboose appropriately at the end of the train. As we follow the train at a blistering pace through the forests on a warm, overcast summer day, please sit back and relax in this film "American Steam Through Bucks County" by Keystone Rail Productions!
    History of NH&I 40:
New Hope & Ivyland Railroad 40 is a 2-8-0 consolidation built in December of 1925 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia, PA. The engine was originally built for Lancaster & Chester Railroad in South Carolina. In 1962, 40 was eventually purchased and moved into the Reading shops in New Hope, Pennsylvania alongside her stablemate, a Canadian National 4-6-0, 1533. In 1974, 40 was restored to operating condition and hauled excursions on the newly formed New Hope Steam Railroad alongside 1533. In 2014, an FRA mandated 1,472 day inspection sidelined 40 until late 2017, when the locomotive was finally returned to service after the major rebuild. Today she shines a New Hope & Ivyland's lone steam star, and is sight well worth it for any railroad enthusiast.
