Beautiful pageantry - but never lose sight of the fact that those wonderfully dressed men on horseback are also professional soldiers there to protect the one person they have sworn allegiance to; their monarch The Queen. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that 2022 will be healthy enough to celebrate in style the 70th Jubilee of this gracious lady's reign.

2012 was a great year for Britain, our queen celebrated her 60th Jubilee and London hosted the Olympic games where team GB excelled themselves which made for a wonderful summer to remember. Who could forget Super Saturday.

We know how to put on a grand event, but with a bit of extra class, tradition and pride.
That was a standout year for sure,I went to the Olympics and saw the cycling, boxing and had a good walk around the village.
Excellently staged, anyone who went were knocked out by the atmosphere.
An elderly American couple we met who had been to every Olympics since Munich in ‘72 said the London games was easily the best they had ever attended.
      That’ll do for me.

Nearly half a century ago I swore an oath of loyalty to the Queen, her heirs and successors. Even though it is unlikely that, at my age, I would be recalled to the colours, I consider that the oath that I and every other member of the services swore was a lifetime commitment.

Strange to think that you Americans could have had all this history, but decided against it….
That Westminster hall is 900 years old, and it’s big.
I remember when the Queen Mother passed away and she was lying in state in Westminster hall. My wife and our 3 kids travelled 50 miles to London and queued for several hours in the bitter cold to pay our respects.
As we got in the grounds of the Houses of Parliament we were given hot drinks (tea or coffee), and made our way to the hall.
I’ll never forget the respectful silence as everyone slowly filed past the flag draped coffin, with 4 lifeguards standing at the corners of the platform where it rested, their arms (swords) reversed with hands resting on top and with heads bowed. What an experience, one which we will never forget.

There is no such title as "Queen Consort". The word consort is a purely technical term used to distinguish one type of Queen from another. It is not part of any title.
When William eventually becomes King, Cathrine will simply be known as " the Queen".
A Queen consort is Queen by virtue of being married to a King. Our present Queen, Elizabeth, is a Queen regnant, that is, she is Queen in her own right and not by marriage. A Queen regnant is the Monarch, the font of supreme power in the land, a Queen consort is not, her husband, the King, is the Monarch.
Note that I do not give the words consort or regnant capital first letters. That is because they are not titles, they are just technical terms.

I live in Yorkshire UK and I would like to show you Harewood House, Fountains Abbey, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The Royal Armouries Museum and then hand you on to someone who could show you the Peak District, Chatsworth etc. Come to the UK and do the whole length of the country.

Hey Joel, Thanks for another great video. Good to see that you enjoy some of the traditional British pomp, pageantry and ceremony. The bit of the BBC coverage following this with the Queen and. the royal family standing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace looking down The Mall towards Admiralty Arch is incredible. The whole of The Mall that the procession just rode down is absolutely packed with tens of thousands of people filling the entire length of The Mall, jostling shoulder to shoulder and waving British flags as the Royal Air Force Red Arrows perform a low level fly over right along the full length of The Mall towards Buckingham Palace. Those scenes capture so much emotion and British pride I wonder if you may like to do a reaction video to that part of the coverage.
Keep up the great work. Love your videos and your reactions :)

A commenter has already said part of what I wanted to say. Most of the Houses of Parliament were built about 1840, but Westminster Hall dates to 1090! As the commenter said, a hereditary official, called the Lord Great Chamberlain, who I think is the Marquess of Cholmondeley ( pronounced Chumley) carrying a long white rod, accompanied the Queen out of Parliament. Several aristocratic families, descended from the De Vere Earls of Oxford, share this honour.
And ahead of the Queen strode the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod - known as 'Black Rod'. He is usually a retired top military man, and has real responsibilities around the security of Parliament.
Now the Queen is not allowed into the House of Commons. (Charles I blotted his copybook about that in 1642.) When she formally opens Parliament once a year, she sends Black Rod to the Commons to summon them to listen to her. But the doors are slammed in his face! He is then let in. So the Commons asserts its right to debate, whatever the Queen thinks.
