Joel, your posting and reaction to the Queen's Coronation was, in my opinion, a respectful appreciation and a fitting tribute to her late Majesty and her 70 years of service which began with this ceremony. Very well done. King Charles is my third monarch.

I think this shows why most of us in the country are grieving, she has been the constant in our lives for decades, she was our beloved queen. Good bless the queen.
As a staunch monarchist, I was dreading the prospect of the Queen’s death, and I was expecting to be very distraught when it happened. But when I heard the news, I sobbed for a few minutes and then sang the national anthem “God Save The King”. Otherwise I have accepted it much more easily than I had expected. If anything, I am grateful for the fact that Her Majesty lived for so long, and remained in such good health until very shortly before the end.
I share your dedication to the monarchy, but I still tear up whenever I see footage of her or her coffin. I doubt that we will be lucky enough to have a monarch like her again.

We didn't have television in East Africa back in '53, so my Gramps ordered a copy of the Pathé newsreel of the event. He and my mum and grandma set up a screen in the drawing room a fortnight after the event, and it seemed to three-year old me that everyone in the village crammed in to watch it. In fact, we did a second showing for my pals and for other village kids the next day, out in the big barn. It was my first experience of both seeing a movie, and trying champagne. It was a happy precursor to enjoying both experiences many more times in the decades which followed. 😵💫🥳🍿

T.A.K. Palfrey. I was in Kenya from 1957 to 1960 and there was no television then. I was at school in 1952 in England when Elizabeth became Queen. Little did I expect that I would be there a short time afterwards. It was a beautiful country. I went back in 1998 and was very shocked at the deterioration of the country and so few animals compared to 1960. Very sad.

I’m glad you too recall the event at three years old. I was the same age, no TV. A friends uncle gave us all a Union Jack and we listened to the event on the radio waving our flags!

"Long may she reign"... she most certainly did: 70 years. Quite a fairytale huh?
Just to say, and it is not in any way to be condescending or the like: but there are a lot of Americans who do not understand the UK constitutional monarchy as it exists today. Many still seem to compare to how things were back at the time of the American Revolution (!) The monarch in the UK has no political powers. In fact, the monarch is not even allowed to express a political opinion at all. The monarch is a politically neutral head of state, there to serve and do duty for all - no matter what their political views might be. The monarch will act as a diplomat and ambassador, as a host, as a person to represent the best of the country to others from other nations, to represent and champion good causes, charities, and to generally be there as a "feel good figurehead". It also creates a neutral boundary between the judiciary, the military and politics, because, symbolically, the military defend for the crown, and the judiciary judge for the crown, not for politicians or political parties. The Queen (and now the King) cannot issue vetoes, executive orders, like a president can, and you don't get the risks of a biased/ divisive head of state not necessarily representing one side or the other (which Trump or Biden arguably demonstrate!) Just some information there
@@n0w3lly90 in fact things were much the same even during the American revolution. The supremacy of Parliament had been firmly established for a century or so by then. Whilst King George was allowed to be more openly supportive or dismissive of certain policies/politicians than the monarch is today he wouldn’t dare step on the toes of parliament and he’d be fully aware of what happened to Charles I
Joel, we have no problem with you reacting to the coronation film. It warms my heart to see not only an American, but one so young taking such interest in our late Queen. You fully understand that her passing has had a deep seated effect on us Brits and we mourn along with her family. We thank you for your tribute, your genuine understanding and also your respect for Her Majesty. She will never be forgotten.

Hi Joel, I was alive when this happened! I watched it, sat on my Father's knee, on a black and white television set with a tiny screen, along with most of the neighbours in our London street!
The big difference back then was that television was in its infancy and most British people didn’t have a TV set. Additionally, there was only one channel, the BBC. Many people bought TV sets just to see the Coronation. My mother tells me that she and many of her family, about twenty of them, gathered in her Uncle’s small living room to watch it on a small black and white set. Most other people only saw the event through newsreels shown at the cinema. The Coronation of King Charles will be the first to be beamed live across the world.
I was 7 years old, and we all gathered at the house of the family members who had t.v. ! Does this clarify for you Joel, anything about the British character and our attitudes. I cannot imagine this happening for an American president.

I have been following you for a while and have to tell you how impressed I am with your sense of decency, politeness and moral grounding. Refreshing in our current world.
The Coronation was 1953 just seven years from the end of the war. Rationing was still in place on many products and foods. Television was rare and those that could afford one did so for this great occasion. Such a time was it that neighbours invited those without TV into their homes to watch.
One of my earliest memories was of that time and people turning up with food and drink they had. I remember also my father, mother and many others given to an outward showing of emotion. Another rare sight then.
Many of these people were broken both physically and mentally, one in particular was a very thin, pale and frail man of thirty seven years, a Japanese prisoner of war. His screams could sometimes be heard in the street. He eventually died in 1959 if memory serves.
The Coronation helped heal and brought us together but, I hated Hitler for some time after for causing the rationing of sugar. At three years old, I had no idea it may have been the only good thing that effected me. I made up for it in subsequent years.
Enough. Thank you for these shards of light from one young in years yet old in wisdom.

Joel love, The Coronation was in 1953 I was 3 years old which makes me an ancient 72 yrs old!! I was too young to remember the actual Coronation but what I do remember is the street party we had it was wonderful, all the children wore crowns and had lots of food (which was unbelievable! as this was postwar Britain and food was still quite scarce). It was a great day. We still have street parties in fact we had one for the Jubilee this year. I love your videos Joel, it just shows how you appeal to all age groups. I'm glad you enjoyed you holiday in my Country a few months ago. Thank you for loving my Country, I hope to see you back here soon. Take Care, Love to all your Family!

Her Majesty has died and of course that's very sad, but we all die sometime and the institution she served so well lives on just as it has for centuries. It is bigger than just one person, however beloved that individual may have been.

I hosted a Platinum Jubilee party this summer. Due to the unpredictable weather🤷♀️ on the Sunday, all the neighbours in the Close where I live (15 houses) spent the morning building a tented village in my garden. It was great fun. Lots of food, bubbles and flags. Chatting to one of the elderly neighbours it turned out he saw the Queen on her Coronation travelling by in her golden carriage.
The mood around here is very quiet, subdued.
When I saw the photo of the Queen meeting the new prime minister I was shocked how her fragility had increased. When the RF started to make their way to Balmoral I expected the worse. I wept at the announcement of her passing and myself and other friends and family are frequently moved to tears watching the proceedings. Watching the crowds, hearing personal story’s, the beautiful services, the military uniforms and even a row of farmers and their tractors in a roadside field gathered to watch her casket pass by has all been very moving.
Scotland did a most wonderful job of taking care of HMTQ at the start of her final journey. God bless The Queen and Long Live The King!

I've got used to the change surprisingly quickly but I've heard what sounded like God Save the Quing a few times so there are still some who are adjusting and only remembering the change while actually singing the anthem.

She’s the only Queen I’ve know for my whole life and she’s always been an inspiration to me to be a better person, to be kind, to do what is right, to be truthful. The Queen said the robes and Crown were really heavy and she had to ask the Bishop to give her a push because she couldn’t move as the robes and dress were catching on the carpet. thanks for this.💕❤️
I was 3 months old on the day of the Coronation so a babe in arms when my Mother and Father took me to the street party in the village. Every child in the village was given a Coronation Mug to commemorate the event and I still have mine. Although I was too young to remember any of the celebrations, I have celebrated every Jubilee since then and feel very proud of our Royal Family.
My mum is only 3months older than you, and she says it feels strange to think that she will witness the coronation of King Charles , as the Queen is all she has ever known

It was very emotional yesterday evening watching her leave Scotland for the last time and return to Buckingham Palace, also for the last time. The whole streets were lined, and even cheers as she drove by. So epic.

I was 6 years old. We didn't live in London at the time, but 65 miles away in Colchester, so Mum made outfits with crepe paper of a red, white and blue dress for me, and Guards outfits for my two younger brothers.
My mother named me after the Prince she was so moved by the "Prince and princess" fairy tails but that didn't go down too well in my locality.
I'm Irish! I got bullied, picked on for my name, but it made me stronger..... eventuality......I kicked the "shite" out of my bullies (I WAS SMALLER THAN A COUPLE) and gained respect.

A common anecdote from people of that generation is that one person bought a TV set specifically so that they could watch the Coronation, and then the whole street crowded into their living room to watch.
The date of 2nd June was chosen as the date because it was statistically a date likely to be dry and sunny. There was heavy rain on the day. One big memory of the procession afterwards was a big smile on the face of Queen Salote of Tonga, in an open carriage, waving and smiling to the crowd in the pouring rain.
I remember that so well and it was a shame it wasn't included in this film. She was a very tall lady and dwarfed the Queen, and everyone cheered her as she travelled with her coach roof down, despite the rain.
I watched this on a tiny TV on the actual day, then went with our entire school (we were given red, white and blue ties and a coronation mug!) to watch it in colour at the cinema when the film came out. My partner attended the lying in state of the Queen's father at Westminster Hall the previous year. The queue stretched for miles and it was a bitterly cold February day. He waited for hours but has never forgotten it.

Thank you for posting this Joel, even though I am British I think it's the first time I have seen that film in it's entirety. Yes, grand occasion indeed, but what it really did for me was underline just how much of her life she gave to her people. The age of the film itself made it feel like it was from a different time, a different era. A time before most of us were even born, or a time when even a great deal of our parents, or even grand parents had not been born. I myself am a grandfather, and the Queen's coronation took place 12 years before I was born. So seeing this film put a smile on my face - knowing she had so many decades ahead of her. The saddest part for me was when the carriage drove through the gates of Buckingham Palace, where just yesterday evening we watched her hearse travel through those same gates.
Joel, thank you for showing that. I haven't seen that in 70 years, when it was screened in the cinema when I was 6 years old. There was also a version shown live on television, but as TV sets were very few and far between in 1952 (even though The BBC had been showing television programmes since 1936), most people saw the event on the big screen in the cinema. Once again than you for screening it and my very best wishes go out to you and your family.
I saw this on my aunts' TV (black and white nine-inch screen) - they had to have electricity installed in their house for the purpose. We had three days off school, and my mother put my heavy pleated hair in red, white and blue ribbons. It seemed to be raining (2 June) everywhere. Everyone's outstanding memory was of Queen Salote of Tonga (a British colony) who insisted on driving in an open carriage in the rain so that she could wave to the crowds (not seen in this abridged version). Her obvious enthusiasm and love were infectious, even to people watching on nine-inch TVs, and everyone loved her.
Btw, St Edward's crown, placed on the Queen's head by the Archbishop of Canterbury, belonged to Edward the Confessor (q v), and the Queen said it was very heavy. She only wore it for a short time and the crown she wore for the rest of the day, and subsequently on ceremonial occasions, was much lighter.

I was 6 at the time and watched the whole of the coronation on a 9 inch black and white television in my grandparents' front room with my parents and some neighbours. My grandfather was one of only a few in the street who had a television.
I saw the colour film version at the cinema.
Looking forward to seeing Charles' coronation. My children will also be watching.

My family and I watched the whole coronation live on our small B&W TV (1st time was ever broadcast). I was only 9....but remember parts of it well. We were awestruck by the pomp and pageantry. Never saw anything like that before. Almost took your breath away when she was anointed and crowned.
Both my father and father in law made our telvisions. Ours was z projection model and getting the projection right was some doing. The cabinet for my father in laws television was an old box he picked up and varnished.
West London was bought to a standstill yesterday as The Queen's coffin came home. Cars stopped on motorways in the FAST LANE as all the drivers got out. There must have been millions all along the route.

I was a young schoolgirl, and watched it on a neighbours 9” screen tv.
It was a rainy day, I remember Queen Salote of Tonga riding with a Sultan. Salote was a majestic lady and was over 6’ tall. Noel Coward on being asked who the gentleman was who riding in the carriage with her remarked , ‘He was her lunch’.
your reaction to this just shows how you need to go back to the UK again and go into some of the historic places you didn't have time to visit. History is so mind blowing and awesome
Oh definitely, next trip you need to go to Westminster Abbey as you have seen it on this film and you will see it at the funeral or clips of the funeral. I plan to get up early on Monday in plenty of time.
I wasn’t born then. But I’ve heard that my grandad bought a tv and the neighbours came in to watch the coronation. It was a packed room. The TV was the size of a PC screen in a walnut stand. My mum didn’t see a lot of the ceremony as she was on tea and sandwich duty. So she said!
Saw the Coronation Coach in 2002 when I said to my sister as it's her birthday the following day fancy going down to London. Was going to stand in The Mall but said about lets see how far we can get to Buckingham Palace. We could if we were searched and ended up right in front of the Orchestra. It is almost impossible to put into words. Whilst we were waiting for Her Majesty, I think she was at Lambeth at the time the rest of the royal family started a mexican wave going all round then up the Mall. The Coach, and everything else that day, including the people we met that day from all walks of life, ages, and around the World was mind blowing. When the Queen came out on to the Balcony was in a sea of cheering people, flags everywhere. Then Concorde with the Red Arrows right over our heads watching Concorde doing a power climb. 20 years ago and still totally unforgettable.
Joel thank you for your condolences and the respect you have shown. I was 6 when the Queen was crowned and remember watching on tv it was a small screen black and white and a bit grainy but it was wonderful, we had never seen televsion before, we were the only ones who had a tv where I lived and so our living room was full of friends and neighbours with the children sitting crossed legged on the floor watching the Coronation. viewing the day again made me reflect on what a wonderful monarch and woman she was. Also when they were on the balcony the little boy stood next to the Queen was Prince Charles now King Charles 111, we will be able to move forward after the state funeral of her majesty on Monday 19th and our new king has had time to grieve as he takes up the reigns from his much loved mother.
Thanks for reacting to this. It was the perfect way to remember our Queen. It brought several tears to my eyes. Mind you, I can't switch the TV on at the moment without crying. Every step of this process, from her funeral cortege through Scotland to Edinburgh, the lying in rest at St Giles, Edinburgh, to her arrival by plane in London and the procession to Westminster hall for her lying in state. Every single part of it has made me cry buckets. I just can't seem to stop. I'll be crying buckets on Monday whilst watching the funeral too. But after grief, joy comes in the morning... in just about a year's time (date not set yet) we will have the opportunity to watch another coronation like this one as King Charles III takes his oath. I'm looking forward to seeing that.

Hi Joel, the Coronation in 1953 I was 7 years old (76 today), I cannot remember all of the Coronation but I do remember the placing of the Crown on Elizabeth's head. We had a tiny 9 inch screen Black and White television to watch it on. The pageantry goes back a long time, we have had Monarchs for over 1200 years and I trust you will not miss the crowning of Charles III. One very important thing to remember is, unlike other Countries, that the monarch is the Commander-in-Chief of all three armed services. It is a very valuable buffer to have between the Government and all three services.
A few hours ago I watched, along with a lot of the nation and the world, The Queen being taken to Westminster Hall and leaving Buckingham Palace for the last time. This was a wonderful video to watch Joel. Seeing Queen Elizabeth from that video and knowing what an incredible legacy and journey she was about to start, it’s a joy to watch. Knowing I’ve lived in the same time as the reign of the iconic Queen Elizabeth II makes me so so proud.
At first, I was in shock and it's just now that it's really starting to sink in.

Joel,I think you should know,Sterling Moss was possibly the most famous racing driver ever to born in the UK (Scotland)He was highly thought of and was a friend of the Queen.I'm 73,when I was a young driver at 17,myself and most other youngsters at the time wanted to be a driver like Sterling including myself in my Austin A30.
Almost every time us young ones got pulled over by the Police for speeding,the first thing they said was "who do you think you are,Sterling Moss"

A number of the schoolchildren would be around and would be in their eighties and nineties around this time. She was crowned nine years before I was born and I'm sixty. It certainly gives one a perspective on life to see, as the narrator succinctly put it, the "motley crowds" and mentally erase to leave those that are still living. The throng would practically disappear from the picture and the cheers to a few staggling onlookers. Further back, to the early days of film and you are indeed looking at ghosts. The actor, Tom Baker, once said in an interview that, very soon, "the living will be mostly entertained by the dead". When viewing this old footage, he is mostly very probably right.

to be in your early 70s to remember this " The Queen herself was 25
when she inherited her position. She promised " I pledge my life, be it long to short to your service" And my goodness, did she do that !

I believe some people think that I am, in fact, annoyingly British. 🙂 Edit: I even sound like an RP cross between Derek Jacobi and Patrick Stewart with a hint of Patrick Troughton! - because my mother couldn't hear any voice properly apart from BBC newsreaders!
Thank you for posting that amazing colour video of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth, which shows the depth and seriousness of the commitment to be made by each monarch. I was 5 years old at the time, so I didn't really understand the significance of it all, we didn't have television, but I remember the celebrations which included a HUGE bonfire, and us children all received a commemorative mug, a silver coin and a blue New Testament. I still have the coin and the New Testament. A wonderful 70 years of service and faithfulness are Queen Elizabeth's legacy to the people. I hope you will be able to see the coronation of our new king, King Charles III, when it takes place.

The Queen said in a rare interview that the crown was so heavy she had to practice for a week before the coronation with it on her head, it was so heavy that if she tilted her head she thought her head would fall off.

I want to share a story about my Grandad and Grandma. In 1952 they were the only people on the street who owned a television. The whole street piled into my Grandma and Grandads house to watch the Queen for her Coronation. They had to put kids out to play because the house was that full. My mum Ann was playing in the garden when the Queen was coronated. RIP Your Royal Highness. You gave your complete life to our Country. From 25 till your end of your life. We as a country are so proud of you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for sharing that video. I’ve never actually seen it. I was born in ‘72 so I’ve only ever known the Queen. My late Father told me how he and some of the other kids from their neighbourhood watched the Coronation through a neighbours window as they were the only house in the street who had a TV. He would have been 8 at the time.
Queen Elizabeth has been our queen for nearly all of my life, I cannot even guess the amount of work she has done for us. For that work , we here in the United Kingdom are filled with gratitude. May she rest in peace. God save the King.
I think you now have far more insight into the history and tradition of GB going back hundreds and hundreds of years. The death of our Queen is massive beyond words and you will see how extensive that is if you watch British tv at the moment, nothing else televised since last Thursday. My Granny and Grandfather bought a new telly to watch it. My Granny thought it was such a magical occasion that she never threw away the tv. When it was replaced, it went starlight to the loft!
17:23 the other young women on the balcony were the Queen’s maids of honour (young women from aristocratic families). One of them died in 2020 aged 90, but the others are all still alive aged between 88 and 93.
My Mum is now 82 and said that her father bought them a TV just to watch the coronation
Today, I just watched, on your channel, HM's first journey in the Golden State Coach along the Mall to Westminster Abbey, to her Coronation. I have just watched her last journey from Buckingham Palace along that same Mall to Westminster Hall, on a gun carriage, to her Funeral. There are no words. Except...as a Scot, I am thankful that she got to spend the last few weeks of her life in the place she loved, Balmoral. And we got to say Goodbye first, on her journey from Balmoral to Edinburgh. She will be greatly missed. God Save King Charles.

My grandparents and many of our ancestors did not give their lives in past wars for an individual person but for all of the above.
The Symbols of the Monarch are everywhere in our culture.
Britons are not feeling the loss of Elizabeth the person but Elizabeth The Queen, The Embodied Personification of Our Country, its People, it's past and now its future.
That role now passes to King Charles.

I was 6 and Charles was 4 - I was nearly 2 when he was born. We watched this live at my aunts house - about 15 of us in a room 15ft by 16ft on a TV with a screen 12 inches wide. Afterwards we went home and joined everyone in the street, literally out on the street -for a party - about 100 of us!
A few days later about 18 of us, as a family party, went to a local cinema to watch this film.
Her Majesty was snall - about 5ft 2in tall, with a tiny waist, in spite of having 2 children.
The crown weighs about 4lbs, the robe, carried by the ladies weighs about 50lbs.
Oh and the state coach IS covered in 24 carat gold leaf.
Then, as now, people waited overnight to be sure to be there.
Less tham 1/3rd of households had a TV but more than half of us got to see it live.
I am nearly 76 and am going to miss Her Majesty, and worry about King Charles because of his age.
The Royal family are all part of our family and we have rejoiced and grieved with them over the years.

This is a highly edited version of the Queen's Coronation which although great as it is, I was disappointed that they omitted that epic and breathtaking piece of music called 'Zadoc the Priest' as the Queen made her way towards the exit of Westminster Abbey. I'm really hoping that we hear it again at the Coronation of King Charles III which will probably be held sometime next year (more than likely during the summer months).
Wonderful piece. It’s a shame but a lot of people will be wondering why they’re playing the champions league theme at Charles’s coronation.
Just a small, but important point - Westminster Abbey. Westminster Cathedral is Roman Catholic.

Hi Joel, I was six years old and well remember watching this on TV in black and white with about 20 people crammed into our front room looking at a 10-inch screen. So, Charles is now my third Monarch.

Earlier this week the procession of the Queen's coffin through the streets of Edinburgh with King Charles 111 and all 4 of Queen's walking behind was a truly moving moment with the crowds lining the streets to pay their final respects to the Queen, followed by a Service of Celebration for the life of the Queen.
Streets you probably walked down with your friend on your recent visit to the UK.

Also now being shown live on CNN and FOX the procession from Buckingham Palace where the Queen leaves Buckingham Palace for the last time. I would recommend that you watch it. The procession is taking the Queen's casket from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall where her body will lie in state for 4 days before the funeral on September 19th. The casket is being followed on foot by King Charles and Princess Anne etc followed by Prince William and Prince Harry. It's very moving
Also a good movie for to check out and react to is 'A Royal Night Out' of a young Princess Elizabeth at 19 years of age at the end of World War 2 celebrating the end of the war. It's really worth watching.

Just before watching your reaction to the Queen's coronation in all its pageantry, I had been watching the live coverage of the Queen being escorted from Buckingham Palace for the last time to go to her lying in state so that members of the public can file past. I hope you get to see this footage on the news networks in the USA. It was spine tingling. Strange to think that little boy on the balcony in the video was Prince Charles, now King Charles III, aged 73.

I watched it on a tiny television with all my family and neighbours. Even as a young boy of 7 years of age, I was over awed. I am now watching this film with you, having witnessed the Queen's coffin following the same route this afternoon 14th September. It makes me so sad having witnessed her Coronation and now her funeral. Life seems so short.
