    I don't really get what optical computing has to do with the topic?
    Optical is just the means of information delivery, not its processing... You coluld also use as steve mould practically demonstrated water or a babbages analytical engine ( though both methods wouldn't be an improvement ), they don't fundamentally change the nature of information or its processing.
