🟢Mail time 67 - another great, but flawed, Filofax personal organiser.

- I call this a "Marmite" organiser. You either love it, or hate it.
It has, like just about every other "Guilford", the problem of peeling "leather".
But it was cheap and, once I've spent time removing all the peeling, I'll have a really useful organiser with, (and this is crucial for me when choosing a model from the Filofax brand) good flatability.
I saw seaweed kisses video awhile back about how the vintage Filofaxes are so nice (generally) but now everything is “pop” - the colors and faux leather etc… I suppose they have changed their target market.
I saw the same video. I thought it hit the nail on the head.
The Filofax brand definitely seems to have experimented with its target market over the years. I do t think I fit into their target audience, but I’m pleased that they still offer many models in black, that might appeal to us guys. Having said that, I quite like my Heritage Compact (despite the problems with the rings).
@@Flatability Yup, the lineup of models and colors have definitely shifted. I hope they keep doing the classics though!
So do I. In fact, I really think there's a market for classic models.
@@Flatability Agreed there is a market. I often check second hand sales and it seems people are fighting for the vintage binders!
I agree that there is growing awareness of vintage binders. But I suspect that rising prices helps encourage more owners to list their old binders for sale.
You should put "poor man's plotter" in the title. Sounds unforgettable. 😂🤣
I quite like that.
Flatability - perfect
Rings - excellent
Able to peel away the lining with ease - priceless.
😁 it seems to be a great find as you know it will work for you. Perhaps you could swap the rings if one of your Guilfords gives up the ghost? Thanks for sharing! Peace and love..Suz What ☮️💛
That's great feedback :-)
Thank you.
Can’t wait to see a rehab. That looked painful.
It's an awkward job, but well worth it. I really rate this binder (once the terrible lining has been removed of course).
Can’t wait to see what you do to rehab it.
I will definitely make a video about it 👍
Hi thanks for the video. I have Guildford with the cracking. The back pocket fell off completely. The inner layer as you say looks like a different material altogether. The outside leather does seem nice though. i agree, such a shame as its a nice stylish piece but not made well enough to last.
Shame the plotter is so expensive to buy from UK.
Thanks for your detailed feedback.
I agree; the Plotter is soooo expensive. But I’m glad that I took the decision to have one shipped over from Japan.
I would not say that is good condition because of the leather peeling 🤔 I actually have a guildford extra slim as well and there’s just a bit of cracking on the inside lower part where it hits the rings. I don’t want to peel off all the leather… I wonder if conditioning or something would stop the deterioration?
My hunch is that peeling is inevitable, but conditioning might delay things a little.
I have left the leather on my Mini Executive, to see what would happen, and what is happening is that the pages are covered in tiny specs of leather.
Personally, I do love my Guildford personal, but it took some time to remove all the flaky bits of leather, and I appreciate that not everyone would want to do that.
@@Flatability Thanks for your input. I hope it doesn’t flake into a million pieces because mine looks just like a big crack - maybe different weather affects it differently too!
I think you're right. I have owned an A4 Lyndhurst, for instance, for 20 years, with no cracking. But I have seen others that have cracked. I'm guessing that it might be variations of usage and storage, so maybe some conditioning can reduce this cracking.
Of course, the real problem is the layering of different materials that will have different coefficients of linear expansion. If Filofax just returned to making binders in full thickness leather (rather than bonding a very thin layer of "leather" onto a manmade substrate, the cracking problem would be eliminated.
That's outrageous 😳, to call that in good condition 😮 and to pay £20 is awful
It’s more than I would have liked to have paid, but I’m familiar with this issue and it is easy to fix, leaving me with a superb binder once the work has been done.
Thanks for your feedback.
You'd say this filofax is the only thing similar to the plotter? These days?
It’s similar, but not the only one. The Filofax Mini Executive is very similar, but this model also suffers from the same “leather” issue.
That just makes me sad when Filofax stamp that planner as Deluxe leather, and the quality is so bad 😢😢😢😢😢
I agree with you.
its the cheapes form of leather. go to a leatherworker snd pay to get a goodone made
Yes, I will try that. Thank you
That looks like a fake Filofax not genuine
Thank you for your feedback.
