The Virgin Mary is not a divinity!!! Catholics regards her as the most important Saint, as she is the mother of Jesus, and Italians like any other catholics around the world are devout to her. But this doesn't make her a divinity (aka goddess).
Yes, I realise that. Nevertheless she is more present in Catholic iconography than Jesus or God... my statement was not to be taken literally.. see also Mark Twain in the 'Innocents abroad' as a literary reference..
