Great video! Thank you for not apologizing for the raw and gritty nature of Napoli, but instead celebrating it. I got a much better idea of which sights will be my priorities while I'm there by watching this video than by reading many guides. Grazie!
Naples is probably the urban area with the greatest tourist offer in Europe, it has everything (or almost everything) impressive archaeology, artistic palaces and churches, panoramas and coastlines, picturesque seaside villages and much more. If it weren't for the bad reputation of crime it would deserve the same tourists as Rome and Paris
after missing Napoli when I raced to Pompeii I will be doing a 2 day visit. One day i will hop to Procida and Ischia. The other I will run through some of these listed things but concentrate on 3 things: the archeological museum, napoli soterranea and to top off see an opera at teatro san carlo. curious also to taste pizza fritta that was also skipped here.
The National archaeological museum is a must see and is one of the worlds best and houses extraordinary Greek Roman and Renaissance art and sculpture and includes much that was removed from Pompeii

@@WanderlustWellman I did! It was just too short. My honorable mention here is the Grand Vesuvio Hotel, along the Lungomare, and facing the Castel Ovo. Two rooftop bars on the upper floors, which had stunning views. The other highlight was a tour of Herculenium. Much more intact than Pompeii, accessible by the Circumvesius train for less than 2 euro.
@@shirleymancino6809 I don’t think it makes a big difference where you go first. I spent 2 hours at the Archeological Museum and 6 hours the next day at Pompeii (with a 3 hour trip to Vesuvius). It would be exhausting to do Pompeii and Herculaneum on the same day.

Thank you for talking about this wonderful city! I just have to disagree with the honorable mentions. I think the duomo is so stunning and definitely worth a visit. Great video. I will be taking my family of four on a 37-day European adventure and had originally booked a tour that would use the train from Rome to Naples and jump on a bus to Pompeii but I decided to arrange the travel myself so we will get into Naples for four hours and then train to Pompeii for a later tour, and then back to Rome.
Here's a summary of the top 7 things to do in Naples, Italy, according to the video: 1. Watch the sunset from Castel Sant'Elmo: A 13th-century fortress offering panoramic views of Naples, Mount Vesuvius, and surrounding areas. 2. Eat authentic Neapolitan pizza: Try pizzerias like Gino Sorbillo, Starita, and L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele. 3. Take a sightseeing tour of the historic center: - Piazza del Plebiscito - Galleria Umberto I - Castel Nuovo (exterior) - Chiesa del Gesù Nuovo - Chiostro di Santa Chiara 4. Visit the Royal Palace of Naples (Palazzo Reale di Napoli): Spend at least 2 hours exploring this grand 17th-century palace. 5. Walk along the Lungomare di Napoli and visit Castel dell'Ovo: Enjoy the seafront promenade and explore the ancient seaside castle. 6. Explore iconic Naples streets: - Via dei Tribunali (known as "Pizza Street") - Spaccanapoli - Via San Gregorio Armeno (Christmas Street) 7. Honorable mentions: - Via Toledo (main shopping street) - Naples Cathedral (Duomo) - Try Neapolitan pastries (especially sfogliatelle) - Visit the Catacombs of Naples - Explore the Royal Palace and Gardens of Capodimonte The video emphasizes experiencing the authentic, gritty side of Naples while enjoying its rich history, architecture, and culinary traditions.
Happy to hear it! And the only place we bought tickets for was the Royal Palace - we did have to reserve tickets for the Castel del'Ovo, but they were free.
I watched this video earlier but came back to my history simply to say, don't listen to him about the baba al rum! It is so so yummy. I almost didn't try it because he made it sound awful. Thanks for checking out the video, sorry to hear that you couldn’t go to the Royal palace. And the sunset really is magical at the castle isn’t it 😁 I’ve never tried pizza in NYC, so I still have to insist the pizza in Naples is unreal (in my opinion hahah)
Funny, I was thinking the same thing! I thought if there’s only time to see one thing in Naples it would be the museum (we’re only going to be there one day). Otherwise excellent video and believe me I look at a lot of travel videos.
I only get to spend a few hours, max 7 as Naples is one of our ports of call on a cruise. Kindly advise on what are the best things to do starting from the cruise terminal and the best route to go 1 round and back to port. Most important is must eat pizza 😂
Realistically, I think 2 or 3 full days in Napoli is enough to see and do most of these things if you're okay with some busy days. If you have time to take things slow, maybe you should take 4 or 5. It just depends on if you're planning on going to other places - for example, I strongly suggest that you visit Ischia island for several days, and/or Capri.
The part of santa chiara is the saddest. This amazing building was in big part destroyed in ww2. In ww2 naples was the most bombarded city in italy.
