Got to thinking of this song, and her voice popped into my head. I haven’t heard this version in at least 10 years, and I didn’t even remember her name, but now I’ve found it again, and it is stunning. Her voice was crystal clear in my memory after all this time.
this is clearly the best version of this beautiful song by any artist . cara captures the tempo of the song outstandingly and the orchestration melts perfectly . i love it !
caras version of this song is by far the best . her voice is like an angel with the lyrics beautifully sung acompanied by the orchestra . christy moores version is way over the top . with the face contortions etc . cara sings with ease and makes the song her own .
Still a beautiful song though. Many folk songs are born from a sadness, blues & country music too.. "If you too busy looking back, you'll never walk forward".
Saw you tonight Cara in Armagh at the St. Patrick's open air festival. You're as fabulous as ever - wished you could have sung for longer, but great concert, great night. Thanks for making it the best concert ever -some other fabulous artists there too but we came to see you:))))
love this song and i love cara when she sings i would like to see more new releases of cara videos singing on you tube up to date thanks jamie eastern oklaoma
i agree totaly my friend . her voice was amazing during this live session looking at other videos posted by cagun she also done live versions of craigie hill and the lark in clear air . i also loved the live version of broken bridges posted by fallingstar10 . a really exceptional voice that sounds beautiful live or recorded.
I sand this song to a newly married Hungrian couple at a roadside restaurant in Hungary, after our czech tour bus broke down on the way back to Prague from Romania......as a result we were invited to join the wedding party until the bus was repaired......needless to say, we do not remember pasingthrough any border crossings on the way back.........
Black is the color is a traditional folk song first known in the Appalachian Mountains region of the United States in 1915, but most probably originating from Scotland, as attributed to the reference to the Clyde in the song's lyrics. The musicologist Alan Lomax supported this Scottish origin, saying that the song was an American "re-make of British materials. The first recording was made by Mrs. Lizzie Roberts in 1916 as "Black Is The Colour"
Cara Dillon has an amazingly beautiful voice - this song is a folk song - it's a story - Cara is the storyteller - it's not her story, but it is a story we can all identify with because we can all tune into the raw emotion felt by the author, whoever the object of your affection might be.
