Body work ➡️ sanding fibreglass filler + finding lows + applying body filler
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- The rear panel fabrication is complete and ready for body work. Yesterday we applied fibreglass filler over the welded seams. Today we're going to sand the fibreglass filler with 40 grit then we'll apply body filler in all the low areas. Once the lows are filled we will put a skim coat on the entire panel ✅

I wish I would have seen a video on this before now. I learned the hard way, when I was doing my hot rod. You are doing it exactly the way it's supposed to be done the first time. God Bless you Chad!
I didn’t agree with the return panel at the rear window.
But, now I see it partially finished. It’s looks awesome 😎!
Cheers
Hi From Brazil just retired here at 74 and love cars and love to restore taking my time because I am no expert. However Chad has given me great strides in welding techinques and how to be creative with what you have . Aqwesome Chad and Jolene
Chad ,you are correct about sand blasting. What happens is you relieve the stress of the metal on one side, which allows it to warp.
I love your work and Joline's videos. Keep it up, 👌
Bill, retired machinist from Mount Airy Maryland
Hey Bill, Easton Maryland is watching as well! 👍
Even with the heavy grit sand paper fiberglass is a pain to sand. Even though you don’t know me Chad I do love your teaching and want you around for a long time. Please consider PPE. When working. Love both you a Jolene.
I like how that sander doesn’t create a cloud of dust! Crazy 😜
And is fairly quiet to-boot👍
I love the fact you guys do a daily show. I always look forward to it for my afternoon enjoyment. Thanks so much.
I don’t understand why would you put fiberglass on a metal car that is a old car they were made of metal if someone put fiberglass on it you should of took it down to the metal I’m not sure you no what your doing
You make a real good teacher ! With your kind instructions and poining out how you make the car right and tight and how to apply and sand fillers . Your awesome Chad I've learned lots from your tutelage ! Thumbs-up Jolene I'd give you a apple for the teacher any day ! Cheers Chad I'm always watching !
I’ve been watching this channel since the beginning, and I never ever miss an episode, and still, I am so impressed how much bad Chad gets done in one hour !! it absolutely blows my mind 🤯🤯😝😝 bad chad and queen Jolene is by far my favorite UA-cam channel and I would like to thank you for sharing your knowledge !! ❤✌🏼😎🥇🥇🥇
Hey Chad your doing awesome at explaining, my husband and I love watching you every day from Prince Edward Island. Jolene, you do awesome as well with your videoing, and when you help Chad. Wonder how many women watch, I know I love it.
HELLO CHAD and JOLEEN!!!!❤❤❤
Here from:

I hope you continue to broadcast a long time. I am a Body Man by trade, owned my own shop employing over 25 people.
I am 61 y.o. now and still learning new things everyday by people in this trade; you being one of them.

We are Snowbirds and we spend usually 6 mo. in Spokane, Wa. and 6 mo. in Tucson Az.. I have a '63 Dodge Power Wagon that i play with when we are in Spokane. I enjoy your show very much, and always learn something new. Thank you.
Indiana USA , being confident and staying strong in who you are shows in your projects. People like us are a rare breed.
Thankyou Chad and Jolene, just started watching your channel, I live in Niagara Falls. Enjoying the metal work you have been doing and teaching the techniques and not having to spending big money in tools to get bye. Thankyou, I am in the process in restoration of my 1973 roadrunner, my first car I bought back in 1981 as a young kid and still have to this very day. Great job and thankyou for helping me save money in my restoration.
Sounds like great fun. If your first restoration I suggest plenty of planning ahead. Maybe one project at a time.
ie: Brakes
Suspension
Running gear
Interior
Etc etc.
the idea is that you don’t want to end up with a big pile of parts and get overwhelmed. So many projects end up, never finished.
I always tell my first timers to try and keep the car as close to running/driving condition if it all possible. Otherwise your dream car can easily turn into a nightmare. If you are an experienced builder, just disregard all my comments. Either way best of luck and please work safe
I have, bought everything for suspension, body mounts etc. Everything and then some had to buy a shed just to store all the new parts. Not my first barbecue, thankyou.
Bad Chad's body work and grinding all makes sense and I am still trying to perfect the routine.. I'm working on my old truck that I purchased from California but I reside in Cobourg ON. Thank you surgeon Bad Chad and camera star Jolene.. 😁
Joleen, IF YOU CARE FOR CHAD AND I THINK YOU DO, YOU MUST TALK HIM INTO WEARING A MASK AND TAKE OTHER STEPS TO PROTECT HIS HEALTH. BELIEVE ME I KNOW FIRST HAND HOW DANGEROUS IT IS BREATHING ALL THE DUST AND OTHER FUMES. OTHER FANS HAVE SAID THE SAME THINGS TO HIM AND I SEE NO CHANGE.
Maybe he doesn't wear a mask is he knows his lungs are already damaged..fina show not be allowed in the sanding room.just because you can't see it it doesn't mean it's not there.i bet Gene windfeild wears a mask. That's why he is in his 90s.
The College of Bodywork knowledge. Learn so much about welding sheet metal and body work and being creative. Jolene read your mind and it's like we're in the room following you around she's absolutely perfect I doing that simcredible. Lemoore California
This is much better than a 1 show build that is just about TV and not showing how you find the car one day be able to drive and enjoy not being a argument for the owners that loved the car it's definitely worthy to be in running condition and enjoying it with your family and friends
Such wonderful workmanship.. If this were a painting, it would wrap rings around the Mona Lisa....
I like how you changed that panel by the rear window. Gives it a nice separation...looks factory. 👍
Factory was to the window like he started doing it his change is not Factory but it does look nice
Great analogy with the ocean floor, Chad. Sure helped me understand something I’ve struggled with in the past.
It would be great for you to have a remote mounted vacuum / dust collector , and piping into shop, so you can silently suck away dust ( as we do in marine boat yards ) you only get one pair of lungs.
Thank You for another valuable lesson in body fill. I like how the resin enriched fill glides on so smooth. It doesn't look like your pressing down to get the smooth result. Thank You for again how you what is a sometimes difficult process easy or easier.
That mofoker looks so good… I’d swear that’s better than factory. I come to understand. I didn’t like every design From Ford,Chevy,Pontiac, caddy etc. but they made it that way. So Hitlzy all might not agree with your design. But it damn sure is beautiful, and one of a kind! Keep it up Chief you inspire me to keep building! Thank you.
Another demo of how to do it right by Chad. Jolene keeps us informed with great videos every day
Thanks so much for your detail and different way of explaining things. I like the ocean analogy. Getting ready to paint my first vehicle a 32 year old GMC C1500 because no one wants to do it and it would be expensive if someone actually did it.
HIT the Like button if you like Fina the dog. Let's goooooo
You’re a good teacher Mr. Chad. Always talking use through the process of do’s and don’ts.
Chad has mentioned multiple times that he normally wears a mask when he's doing work off camera. He's also stated that it's difficult to talk and explain things when wearing a mask while filming. I'm sure he knows the risk and manages it accordingly. I've never considered him to be "ignorant". You know, lacking knowledge or awareness. 🤔🤨🤫
You can sandblast auto sheet metal with absolutely no damage if you understand what warps the metal , but I would not recommend it for an amateur . As you said ( You would warp it ) . I sandblasted all metal work in my restoration business for over 30 years with no damage . Overheating the metal causes warpage and that is caused by several things . Always blast at an angle at least eight inches away with no more than 100 pounds pressure and don't stay in one area . Constantly move around the panel to eliminate too much heat in one area. And I don't use regular sandblast sand . I buy play sand at Home Depot because it is less abrasive and is better for your health since it is intended for kids to play in and does not contain the same health hazards . Play sand usually has dampness in the sand when you buy it so spread it out on clean concrete overnight to dry it out before you put it in the sandblaster to keep it from clogging . You have to understand that sandblasting sheetmetal is done different than sandblasting heavy metals such as wheels which are much harder to damage so just go careful with sheetmetal. I recommend practicing on an old junk body panel and you will catch on very quickly.
Absolutely agree, I was going to comment in a similar way. Spot on, thanks for saving me the time.
Chad, I'm that guy that sanded off and put back on !!!! Lol. Many years ago, I used to paint motorcycle parts. Even the new tanks and fenders had dents in them. It took me many years to figure out what you're telling us. I loved the painting but always had a tough time with the body work. Cars and pickups were a little easier, but i still couldn't get the bodywork perfect. If i had had a teacher like you, maybe i could have had some better outcomes.
We gotta keep you around Chad! Please mask up, our great artist!
And Jolene aswell.
I don’t know what to say about Fina. Maybe regular checkups at the vet?
Chad I look forward to coming home everyday and watching your show I love it man I live in Southern California and think you and your queen are the best your a good man a true good guy that loves to help people learn things thanks for everything you do brother keep up the good work best show on youtube period I love those hats you wear and fina girl.
Chad, any chance you would do a live cast chat session with us? A questions and answer roundtable? I’m learning so much watching your videos and appreciate you sharing your work. It would be great if we could interact with you (virtually). Maybe we could talk about your thought processes, the tools you use, materials you prefer….
Bad Chad never fails. You will learn something you didn't know in every video. Thx for sharing with us Brad. Thxs for your excellent production of the videos Jolene. What a team!
Lots of work done in about an hour and lot of tips given to those who aren't that experienced with bodywork, great filming as always by Jolene, thanks for sharing
From Arkansas U.S.A. I’ve learned a lot watching this project and I’m excited to see the completed car. I’m working on a 1956 Packard Executive for my wife and was wondering where you buy your wide whitewalls. What a classic look!
Chad, love it when you talk about the process and when you talk about things tht have nothing to d owith the process. That's wht makes it more interesting. Don't stop doing that part
Awesome 👍 from the United States middle Tennessee I have a 78 elcomino I have fixing up for 5 years now still going
On the sandblasting, it's when you get to close with the nosal and the pressure of the sand hitting the metal will make the metal warp. 😊
It's fun and relaxing watching a artist at work.
Jolene, Great digital camera work....Coupled with Chad's teaching/demonstrations. Thanks for sharing!
Hello everyone hopefully y'all are doing well up here in Michigan it's cold but things are looking warmer Chad and joloin things are looking good keep the video's coming Love them
Chad. Your lungs were not made to be fiberglass filters. The queen would like for you to protect her investment.she is worth the effort.get it
looking good Chad i have a 60 square bird and have changed alot of things its tubbed and caged with 33 2150x 15 tires and built a tilt front end and a twin turbo set up its my fun car but its like you said get rid of what you dont like and build it how you want i wish i could post a picture here so you could give me your take id love to be able to make some glass parts for it like the front bumper doors and trunk lid but i think thats beyond my knowledge im more of a fabrication guy . anyways i cant wait to see how it turns out will keep a watch thank you Bill from northern Nevada
Thank you for sharing. This system making sense to me. I am a newbee and I started doing it this way ALREADY. From South Africa
Chad get a Festool sander/extract unit. Sucks up the dust and they are awesome for bodywork Still wear a mask though fella. Roof and sail panel looks really cool 😎 👍👍
A respectful comments and suggestion: Might it not have been an even better idea to extend the trunk forward for about the third of the width of the new paneling that you creaed? You would have had to re-locate the hinge mechanism (and that's as LOT of work), but I think the proportions would have been somewhat better. Excellent work!
Thanks for always explaining as you go... I appreciate your expertise. Love the project, it’s really coming along nicely! 😊 Dano
Just wanted to say “Hey from Mississippi “. My project is a 1940 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup. Love you guys and keep up the great work
Chad it's shaping up and looking pretty good .I just wish I had some of your talent in body work. Hi Jolene you are doing a great job with the camera but we would like to see you more. God bless you and Chad and have a blessed evening and night
Northern Ireland. I have a Austin Mini and ‘89 Honda CRX. Have been watching the channel for the guts of a year now.
Thanks for the videos! I’m doing a respray on an AMX so the bodywork detail is very helpful. Learning tonnes from your channel
Press the like button, let us see how many can be placed if you Like Fina the dog. Let's go!!!!!
You both have the most amazing work ethic! Love watching you do your art!
Thank you Chad I have learned what I have been doing wrong I love how Jolene follows and gets the best shot
People, don't rub anything down without wearing a mask 😉
Now we know why some of his designs look brain damaged.
That sculpting work you did, Chad, is really beautiful.
I am loving this T-bird, the roof line is perfect, great job you guys !
Good evening jolene and chad hope your having a wonderful day and thank you for sharing your information and knowledge in a way anyone can learn from also it’s just fun watching your videos
Good thing he’s not breathing those fiberglass dust partials
🤣🤣
@@chadchivrell2606 he will not listen to live saving advice...
When was the last time he mopped the floor ?
Particles?
@@kevinhornberger4351 exactly 💯
@@markmckinney-fc4no interesting 🤔🤔....In my sixty years, I don't ever recall anyone mopping a concrete floor in a shop.
Sweeping, yes.
But never mopping.
Thanks for all the great tips nice work everything looks awesome thanks for sharing
I like the resin trick, think's for the tip! BTW: I've been watching so long I almost feel like we're friends
Now that's the way ford should have designed that car! Excellent work Chad! Oh and you too Jolene!!
I like to use what I call a horse-hair stripping disc to remove paint. Doesn't create hardly any heat or dust. NAPA carries them. I can do most of one car with an 8" disc, you just have to be careful on sharp edges. Goes pretty fast.
Thanks for the tip. Will check it out.
My Dream Team at again. Yes I've learned some things today. An old dog learning new trick . Thanks Dream 😊
Great tutorial, thanks Chad and Jolene
I would like to take the time and thank you chad and your queen. You have been a true inspiration to my queen and I. I have been in a deep depression for many years . I have many mental illnesses and have had such a hard time dealing with them and have confidence with the things I know how to do and just not thinking I'm good enough. Your daily voice with teaching other on the way anyone is able to do what they love has been life changing. I love the videos so much. I have been able to now teach my wife how to weld among other car related garage mechanic abilities I have to her. She and I have two little girls. I hate to admit being as capable that we are that we haven't been able to provide much income for sure family. I would love any advice on what we can do to earn an income . We are not looking for any hand outs. I have a state inspection license for vehicles but unfortunately unable to get hired ,with my medical mental record .With my anxiety and everything related to that being unable to work for someone else. I find doing my own work much more gratifying and successful. I love what jimbo has been doing also . I am unsure where to take life .Possibly starting a youtube channel. I never felt confident or convertible with a camera but have really gained confidence with your videos and inspiration. Any advice would be great . Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this. Sincerely Evans family.
Asking for help is a great step in the right direction. Being too proud to ask for help in any situation is completely counter productive.
Being that most of us work for a third of our time we should have some job satisfaction.
Looking good, looks like it would be easier to work on the middle if you took off the trunk lid so you can be right on top
From Usa I like that you say what your using some of us learn strictly from others thank you
Love your teachings. Thanks 👍
Chad we love you. Please wear a mask COPD is a horrible thing. Please take advise from this Old body man. Your bullit proof now...but you won't be someday. Love what you do.❤
Rebuilding chevy 5.3 ls engine with 5 speed trans for my 1993 chevy s10 truck.I watch you and jolene every day. Thanks for all your hard work.
I like all the talking about things that have nothing to do with what you are working on. I think a lot of us watching enjoy the entertainment side of the videos as much as the work.
Chad’s side remarks just add to the overall enjoyment. Don’t ask him to change, I think most of us like the lightheartedness of his delivery. These are instructional, sure, but don’t have to be dry, too.
OMG no mask sanding fiberglass!!. I do enjoy your posts.
Good morning all...from. Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺.
Chads experience ,skill & talent is really coming in too play,, King of kustom builds 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
Gday from Canberra Australia. Would be nice to see constructive comments in the chat rather than people complaining every minute that Chad and Jolene aint wearing a mask. Chad will do Chad. Leave him be. Rant over... Fantastic work Chad. You certainly inspire me to do some outstanding projects i have around the house. Not car related projects, but i have learnt alot from you that i can use for my projects. Your videos teach me more than just working on cars. It relates to other things in life. You inspire me. Thanks Chad and Jolene. Keep up the awesome work
There's good reason why people are commenting on masks, good PPE saves lives, ever seen anyone with lung disease from working on cars without protection ? I have, and lost a friend to lung disease because he was too tough to wear masks. I'm Australian too, It's now illegal to work without proper PPE here , for very good reason....
@@MickH60 I understand why everyone is getting on Chad for not wearing a mask or respirator.
And I myself have suffered from severe asthma since the 1980s. And COPD the last several years.
But people need to realize that, at Chad's age, he is not going to change.
So there's no reason for everyone to keep harping at him, as if you all are his parents.
Very well explained! Thank you...
Collegeville, Pennsylvania loving every minute of your project
Thanks for the content and the excellent camera work
I believe we achieved 1 500 Likes today. VERY, VERY AWESOME. I AM VERY APPRECIATIVE, and very happy for FINA THE DOG. Well done everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chad and Jolin, I am addicted to your great job and video. I will keep watching 👍👍
My biggest Question- what about not sanding the glass in the low spots for adhesion?? wondering.. Its much easier if you dont for visibility, but i gotta assume its better to sand them..
i have done it with glass on glass within like 12-18 hrs. Figured if it wasnt cured the fresh glass would chemical bond into it still. Ive also done expoxy in that fashion not sure how that's held up yet.
Love what you do. Always watching from Ligonier, Pa. 50 miles east of Pittsburgh!!!😎
Learning alot from your videos thanks for teaching keep up the great work
Wear a mask Chad you can't get fiberglass out of your lungs.
Mon even if you wear a mask that dust gets everywhere in the shop well after he's done sanding if anything Jolene should be wearing all safety gear boots, safety glasses, ear protection, a cert dust mask! Don't cut coners on safety.
Even though he's talking during the video as you probably are right he probably should have a mask on I don't know I don't do body work I only work with wood but I would think it would probably be a smart idea
@@chrisbond6056 you are right for long term it is a good idea to wear a mask in any situation that kicks up a lot of dust

Bad Chad regularity breathes in all manner of dust, asbestos, lead fiberglass and rodent urine…🙈
Hello Canning Nova Scotia from Australia. Great entertaining video once again Chad and Jolene the car gets better looking everyday,
Love watching the bodywork being done
I agree it’s always fun to watch people being creative
That is a super job. Looks like a factory job
Please wear a mask Chad. There are lots of young people who watch your show (my son included) He told me yesterday that he doesn't need a mask because Bad Chad does not use one.
You're the parent of your child, not Chad. Never tell someone how to live their life. Here's your chance to teach your child.
A respirator and a pair of goggles would be even better to help Chad protect his lungs and eyes. His wireless microphone could probably be adapted to fit inside a respirator. A good exhaust fan in the right location inside the shop would be beneficial as well. Both for Chad, Jolene and their dog.
Hello from Illinois, USA. You have a great way of explaining things, I'm sorry I saw that low spot on the piece you added at the window. A little confused looked like it's still there's just moved over a bit because it you remember, you arched each side in the roller. Are you going to use a block or a straight line sander to get rid of that?
I've been called a shade tree Mechanic or body guy. But got it done, and when done, look as good or better than professional. Still have a problem matching color, Especially on plastic parts, and clear coat. Still could use a little help, not showroom quality, but I'll get there.
Thank you both for sharing
Love what your doing.👍
Gary Jr
Chad if you paint the back steel window black and add a clear film and a backup camera, you don't need to install a window. Would be different and very cool. Love the look of the T-Bird!!
I don’t think he has plans for driving this particular car.
How much do we Appreciate Fina the dog. Push the Like button now, please. Let's see over 1 500 likes.
Love what you are doing and how you teach everyday
I know you know this but since I'm much older at 66 years and done alot of body work over the years please wear a mask when sanding when you get older you will wish you had.
Hi love this project watching from Windsor Ontario
A continental tire kit on the back bumper would look good on that t bird Some continentals and Mercury’s Had a flat back window that would roll up and down. Like a Ford bronco or Chevy blazer back window
Watch out people about telling Chad how do you think safely. Is trolls out there. When I told he's younger than what it was I try to say wear knee pads are get that car up off the floor on a set of ramps or something. Wham 20 and fifty and who knows how many just flew down and attack me. Tell me that Chad to pro he knows what he's doing. They must have been young or something because when you get older you definitely feel it. Just like this fiberglass in his lungs. Simple message Chad. You won't be around for Jolene and be able to run around do things with her. Take all the precautions you can around these chemicals.
Cheers from Oz. Great job Chaddy. Great camera work Jolene 👏
you could put some small dia. LED pin break lights into the recessed part of the new panel.
