While I dont have a top 5 my favorite jrpg games this year has probably been Eiyuden Chronicle (I play about 100 hours of it), Fantasian: Neo Dimension, and Dokimon.
@@kali-qgames1301 the developers didn't gave it the treatment of mh rise which is the reason that the players left once they finished it's lastest dlc
It´s hard this year, so many good JRPGs. 5. Monster Hunter Stories/4. Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven/3. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes/2. Unicorn Overlord/1. Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Maybe Fantasian Neo Dimension should be in my top 5, but I don´t know yet.
I'm waiting on all the dlc for a 100% playthrough of Eiyuden. Enjoying Ys X in the meantime. Only a select few can appreciate Eiyuden past its unavoidable flaws. It's encouraging to hear it spoken of in a positive light.
Bro I just found your channel and I swear you bringing a tear to my eye bringing up Grandia 2. I'm not brave enough to say it's the greatest but I swear I'll fight right beside you to defend that it is one of the greatest RPGS of all time. This is the first time I've even heard or seen anything about this game in years. You keep bringing me back to my childhood man. Thank you.
I never finished Grandia 1, but I LOVE Grandia 2. I had the original on the Dreamcast when I was... 20-ish? It's super easy, sure, but at no point is it not fun. "That was beautiful, you guys!!!" will forever be burned into my brain. Agreed on best turn-based battle system, too. Nice shout to Ys. Been a fan of those games since Ys 3 on the SNES. Still need to play 9 and now 10. Now I need to finish the video. Edit: Yeah, Eiyuden was magical. Still need to do my second playthrough. Visions of Mana (mentioned by many comments) is high on my list, as is the Romancing SaGa 2 remake. Need to do NG+ on both of those as well. It's been a little sparse for me on new games this year, but VoM, RS2, and Eiyuden were super enjoyable. Can't count Grandia, because I got the collection on Switch in 2022 (or VERY early 2023, I don't remember when it dropped). I don't remember if anyone does it (I feel like they do), but I'd be interested to see my most played games of the year on PS5 and Switch. I haven't really done much on Steam lately cause I've been travelling a bunch. Consoles are easier to transport than a desktop PC afterall!
I needed this list. Honestly 2023 was such an amazing year for games, some of my favorite games in years came out in 2023 and my backlog is still stacked with games from last year so maybe thats why 2024 felt kind of slow to me as far as rpg and game releases as a whole. Ive beard of some of these games, and I had gotten the Unicorn Overlord demo but wasnt super hype about it. I appreciate this list and your obvious excitment in sharing them so I'm off to wishlist them and check them all out. Thank you ❤
Great vid ty for the B-day wishes. I can't disagree with what you posting. To be honest, a lot of JRPGS can't hold my attention. But my #1 is Eiyuden. Nostalgia was 100%, I still enjoyed the game. I really didn't have a big issue with the top complaints. I could understand them but it was not a killer for me. And be honest this was the last game Yoshitaka Murayama worked on and his last baby. Now don't get me wrong it had its flaws and problems (I even made a whole College thesis on it HAHA). Hopefully, they will fix those issues on the sequel when it comes out. How I look at it. Suikoden 1 wasn't top and had flaws, but Suikoden 2 addressed most of them and built upon them and I believe this one could too. Now just need those DLC's :(
I never followed you with you on The Golden Sun series, but here it goes. It's a really fun game to play! However, I can see why it's never gotten a remake as there are a lot of old school things in the game, but it's cool to play if you want to experience a classic. I don't believe it's a must-play but if you ever wanted to play it I would just say go for it. I started Golden Sun 2 and got halfway through and didn't end up finishing but it is cool as well 👍🏿 The trails series has the best battle system bruh 😏🙌🏿
@@kali-qgames1301 You'd want to play the previous game too for context on Ichiban, but adding turn-based party combat with (ridiculous) character classes works surprisingly well, particularly the refined version in Infinite Wealth.
Only played Metaphor so far from this list. Currently a bit halfway through it on the tropical island. I am absolutely loving Atlus's new game. Got more on my list. Romancing Saga 2 demo was fire so thats most likely my next game. This year I did Elden Ring, FF7 Rebirth, and Silent Hill 2. Theres others but i forgot them. 😂
What a year it's been for jrpgs , I've basically been playing them bon stop for the last 12 months. Ff7 rebirth , metaphor, dragon quest 3, e chronicle, currently fantasian god dam I can't pick a favourite...
top 5 jpgs for me #5 eiyuden chronicle I am glad you suggested this recruiting people was fun though there are some parts as far as combat I didn't like so much but it makes it in. #4Like a Dragon infinite wealth i had never really been able to get into the yakuza series but on a whim I decided to try this one out and i enjoyed my time. #3 The Legend of heroes: Trails through daybreak this i where my bias comes in i have been following the series for a while and to see it in the states finally is great i like the new characters and the story and combat were great. #2 Metaphor Refantazio well i think you know why this is here this game was another home run for Atlas. #1 Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth this is another case of bias perhaps it does barely edge out Metaphor for me The character development is great in this one and it has me excited and a little worried for the last game in the series i wonder if they can make it as good or better than the last we will see.
Bro, not sure if you had played it but, Unicorn Overlord was probably one of the best I had played this year. But I just have a hard time playing these anymore. I love them to death and I'm an old head JRPG player. But I just never seem to be able to finish them nowadays lol I definitely wanna try out Gran Blue, and the Final Fantasy Remakes are still on the list.
Man I feel ya! I honestly barely kept up this year! It was way too many release and too little money haha But time was a big factor too, I just can’t dive into these like that anymore! Granblue is fire, and it has pc co op! So many we could play that together too someday lol Unicorn overlord seemed good, but I unfortunately couldn’t get into it. Maybe I’ll try it again someday
Personally my favorite JRPG of 2024 would be Xenogears Perfect Works Build, but Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak and Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes come pretty damn close too.

@ I haaaated it lol. The gameplay is the worst open-world nonsense I’ve ever experienced and I usually really enjoy those games. The story goes places I also hate. Obviously many loved it! And yeah Kunitsu-Gami is really special
It's a pity that the producer of Gradia died as a result of complications after surgery. The ending of Grandia 2 was a bit rushed and part 3 and the following lost something special. Nevertheless, I believe that today there is someone in Japan who could take control of the game and restore the shine it deserves. My memory of Grandia 2 is the fantastic trailer from Dreamcast that made me not believe that a JRPG could look like that. Of course, with hindsight, all that remains is to laugh ;) I also liked that part 2 is dark and the world we find ourselves in is immersed in darkness and chaos. Our actions only stop the inevitable, a totally different picture than part 1. Together they create a nice whole. Game of the year for me is Eiyuden Chronicles. Because I am a fanatical fan of the Suikoden series.
That is truly sad, this series was one of the greatest in the making. No wonder the quality dropped off, I was wondering what happened! Thanks for sharing

not Jrpg but recently tried a CRPG which is so good. It like octopath traveler + final fantasy tactic called wandering sword.

Solid choices. Definitely agree with Grandia II and Ys X.
